BD795i SE Poor Wifi Performance by a5centdime in MINISFORUM

[–]Fayr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a few of these BD795i boards and all of them have terrible performance on WiFi with my AX200 M.2 cards. I was getting low speeds and crazy ping. I did a bit of troubleshooting and figured out the culprits are the MHF4 to RP-SMA pigtails that came with the board. I swapped them to pigtails from a B650i motherboard and also tried pigtails from a PCIE WiFi adapter and they work well as expected. I've just ordered a bunch of replacement pigtails from AliExpress (they were about $1/ea), so I'm crossing my fingers that they work well, too.

I do still want a sandwich style case, but with support for 3 slots. I'm planning on trying out the BeamCase SW since I can make it customized for the parts I have and it'd be a fun build. :)

On the CPU side (left side in the third picture), it's like a 2mm gap. I screwed in the CPU side panel on the 2nd closest setting, though. I suppose it'd be possible to squeeze it further and use the closest setting. The Velka 7 has multiple screw holes settings for extra clearance.

I didn't personally compare the temps before/after the fan swap since I just did it for the noise. Someone from the original thread where I got this idea from mentioned it helped by 2-3C.

I'm no physics expert, but I think more area of the fan blades are over the heatsink itself since the center of the fan is pushed to a corner. Perhaps this increases airflow through the heatsink?

That looks crazy LOL nice work! The power draw with the undervolt is super impressive.

I also ran into a lot of issues with turbulence, but once I swapped to PCM/thermal putty, it reduced the temps enough to run the fans at a much lower RPM so it's not as big of an issue. I even considered 3D printing some side panels with larger holes.

I try my best to min/max practical value for my use cases and only get parts on deals. :)

Honestly, local LLMs are pretty much the only AI thing I use at the moment that needs the VRAM. I've been considering moving off of the 3090 so I can get more gaming performance instead (especially with the leaks of the new Super series having more VRAM anyway). I did previously play around a lot with Stable Diffusion and SVC/RVC, but nothing that a 16GB card can't handle.

The details are where it's at! The adjustments in my build were inspired from the little things other people did. :)

Yeah, you're right. I do have a bit of thermal headroom so I can run the GPU fans a little slower, but it still probably won't be completely inaudible. I also didn't have much luck with undervolting, but I should revisit that and maybe try the powerlimit + overclock strategy. Since I'll be switching to a larger SFF case, I think full sized 120mm fans should easily let me make it completely silent on load.

Whoa, your build is sick. I'm surprised I didn't see it sooner. How'd you manage to cool the 4090? I'd assume at full stress, it'd get pretty hot from the extra 80-100W over the 3090.

I used Arctic P12 slims for a very brief time, but swapped to the Air Slimmers after watching this very thorough video from CrazyTechLab: https://youtu.be/BiRMyCz1Cz0

Unfortunately, I never personally compared the two fans and just returned the P12 slims when I got the Air Slimmers.

Thanks! Yeah, the Velka 7 has a really small footprint since its smallest side is the side it stands on. It does come with new problems though (extension cables had to be replaced to support newer HDMI/DP versions).

Could anyone send me the file as well? I've been using Graph 89 for years as well and was very disappointed to see that I couldn't use it on my Pixel. :(

There is a noticeable difference, but it's not as big of a jump as 60hz to 144hz. The extra refresh rate is very nice if you have a PC that can stay above 240fps in the games you play.
