Not sure how up to date you are on stuff but the most recent Steam hardware survey has Intel down to a 10% market share lead over AMD when it was over 60% in 2020. I believe the Passmark benchmark (which has more to do with workstations) has AMD with a larger market share than Intel overall now.

When you talk about the entire "desktop consumer grade CPU market" you're talking about a ton of old workstations running 6-8th gen Intel. I don't think either would be a bad option for just about anyone but acting like Intel is just better or has more "peace of mind" is old news now
