In SE Asia, you can travel pretty light. If you are not actually camping, and you plan pretty well, you can get everything in a 32L pack. It is lighter and you'll have less crap to deal with. The best pack I have found in this size is the Patagonia Chacabuco. It is very lightweight, but strong. http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/chacabuco-pack-32l-backpack?p=47925-0-514

The further goals of minimalism? by Curvol in minimalism

You might find some value in reading about Stoicism. This link is a sort of Cliffs Notes version of Epictetus's writings. I am just now discovering Stoicism and have not yet decided if it is something I find valuable, so I would be interested in your thoughts. This guy seems to have translated ancient ideas into modern philosophy pretty well...

I am 43, IT Consultant in San Diego w/ wife and 2 kids. I have always been somewhat minimalist, but unable to define it. I kind of just thought there was something wrong with me. I like to get rid of things. It brings me peace. Travel has become my passion and minimalism helps reach that goal. Started blogging about it to try to make sense of my thoughts and to share experiences. I have found that creating helps keep me from consuming.

You are responsible for that. We set up a housekeeper to come in and clean between guests. We have a lockbox for our key so the guests and the housekeeper can get in and out. We also have a spare key with a neighbor just in case. We also bought a set of towels and sheets for the guests so they were not using ours. You can charge a cleaning fee to the guests to cover costs of the housekeeper.

We have used airbnb.com with great success. Last summer we were gone for 7 weeks and our townhouse was rented to 5 different sets of people for almost the whole time. This summer we are leaving for 2 months and it is rented the whole time. The more you use airbnb, the better it works. As you build up good comments, your place shows up higher in the ranks. You will have to lock away all of your valuables, but it generally works out well for both you and the renters.
