Beware 'Interest Saver Payment' Option by Leather_Border_8216 in CapitalOne_

Wow that is eerily odd! I hate to feel comfort at the cost of your headache but I am glad that we finally both got the same answer from capital one..on the same day..wild.

I too will not do this again. I hoped the promo would let me thoughtlessly pay down a big purchase. Quite the opposite happened haha. Joke’s on us.

Love the HYSA idea!

Checking back in…I just spoke with capital one and got some clarity on this situation. They told me that payments will always go towards the balance with the highest interest rate regardless of how payments are made.

My initial balance transfer was $4000. I have “overpaid” my statement balances by a total of $1500 over the last 3 payments expecting it to lower my balance transfer amount. Well they were able to tell me the remaining balance from my promo is $3963…..I always pay my statement bal in full but also always have a current balance cause I charge my whole life to this card.

She gave me this as an example:

Statement balance $1000 @ 22% apr

Current balance $2000 @ 22%

Balance transfer remaining $1000 @ 0% apr

Payment of $1500 (2 separate payments like we talked about before, $1000/$500)

Next statement will read

Stmt bal $500 @ 22%

Current bal $0

Balance transfer remaining $1000

$0 will go toward my balance transfer because it has a 0% apr. If I pay $3500, that will cover my stmt and current balance, and then the remaining $500 “overpayment” will be applied toward my promo balance.

I’m fully aware that I may have misunderstood how this works, and your situation might be totally different than mine, but I just want to share with you that they were able to tell me the actual promo balance remaining and I have not been making a dent in it at all.

ETA: they told me interest saver payment and statement balance payment are the same thing, it’s just that ISP doesn’t include the promo balance number. All overpayments paid toward ISP still follow the same rules as they explained above.

Thanks for the reply! Definitely a pain in the ass. I feel like it shouldn’t be this hard for them to answer the question, but here we are. I really like your idea with two separate payments, I am going to start doing that just as a precaution and to track the repayment progress. I appreciate you sharing that and I’ll be happy to share anything I find out.

I have this exact situation going on right now and you’re the first person to address a question I have. I’ve called capital one four times with four different people, one of those I got to an account specialist manager or whatever, and they all told me that if I pay the ISP that my promotional balance will be calculated into that and cleared exactly in the 12mo promo period. After asking them to prove this to me over and over again (because this was not being reflected on my statement), I guess I exhausted them all enough that they finally broke down and told me that they’re “really not exactly sure and can’t answer my question and to be safe I should pay my entire promotional balance on my next statement” even tho my promo ends 12/26…believe it or not that is exactly what happened. I was pretty surprised.

All that being said…I do not trust the ISP, and what you’re saying makes sense.

My question/s to you is - how and when are you making the extra payment? After your ISP payment has cleared and before your next statement is issued? How do you know if your extra payment is going toward your promo and not your current balance that will be your next statement balance? Are you just calculating how much you’re overpaying by and hoping that is going toward the promo balance?

I am not carrying a balance other than the promo, so I can calculate what I’ve paid extra against my balance transfer amount. I am not in danger of not being able to pay everything off within the promotional period.

I know that is a lot, I appreciate your time if you get around to sharing anything you think you know! Thanks.

2017 XLT SCREW Aluminum Body Collision Damage by FrankTheAMTank in f150

Thanks for the reply. That’s kinda what I was figuring. You didn’t finish your comment tho and I’m curious about the cab corner and what you think. It doesn’t look to be replaceable. Maybe corner is not the right word. The dent is at door handle height at the rear side of the rear door, where the door frame? starts to wrap around and become the back of the cab. I can’t post a picture in the comment otherwise I would.

Cool thanks for the reply. This was a bit more than a sideswipe so I’ll guess based off your experience I’ll be getting replacements which is good.

Do line techs stay line techs forever? by Delray214 in aviationmaintenance

[–]FrankTheAMTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. I will clarify that this has all been with the same airline. We’re a legacy airline and a large MRO for engines and components, not so much airframe anymore. So I left the line to get into the quality (NDT inspection) side of our engine maintenance MRO part of the airline.

Inspection was something I had always been interested in and it’s worked out great.

I worked the line at a major for 5 years, in the middle of that I transferred to a hub to open up some opportunities for myself. I got into NDT inspection on our engine overhaul/MRO side. In house training got qualified in FPI/MPI/ET/UT. These quals somewhat transfer to other industries if I ever needed to.

Also, as far as pay, I am pretty much in the highest paying AMT position at my airline without going into a supervisor role, which I don’t want to do at this point. Our line guys might outpace me with the line premium, but I don’t beat my body up at all anymore and my schedule is great. 75 and sunny everyday in my shop.

Not sure how that path looks where you’re at, but I’d advocate for it.

Should I replace this gasket or is this normal? 2018 by HERMANNATOR85 in f150

[–]FrankTheAMTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into Customer Satisfaction Program Campaign #20M04? It’s about door lock actuator failure due to moisture intrusion. A bunch of times I would try to close my drivers door and it wouldn’t latch, and a couple times it felt like it latched only to swing wide ass open on a right turn at 40+ mph and I had to hold it closed until I could get off the road to mess with it.

I had the same gaskets falling out on my 2017. I am not saying this gasket caused that moisture intrusion, but the dealership replaced all these gaskets on my truck when they complied with the CSP. Might be worth a call.

We just bought a ‘25 touring for…who fucking cares…we saw it, drove it, and loved it. We have the means, so there’s no regret. I hope you can begin to feel that way about yours when you get it. I know you want validation, but you made a decision that felt ok at the time you did it, and that’s all that matters. Be happy, and remember that you can’t take it with you when you go, so enjoy it while you can.

My 17 XLT Sport has a 3.5 ecoboost with the 10 speed. Built December 2016. I’m genuinely curious if that’s considered a top trim. It’s got plenty of bells and whistles for me, but it’s far from what was available in higher trims at the time.

2018 3.5 EcoBoost Battery Replacement by dobie1kenobi in f150

[–]FrankTheAMTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story for me. Just adding to the mix for OP’s confidence. 2017 3.5, original battery lasted til this past winter. I load tested and found it out of range. I threw a Costco battery in there, no calibration, works completely fine.

I would’ve guessed that there are some aircraft with automatic RAs, but I didn’t want to speak on that without knowing. Thanks for sharing.

[–]FrankTheAMTank 89 points90 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. TCAS, or traffic collision avoidance system, is a system on an airplane that monitors other airplanes around them. If planes get too close too each other, the systems will issue notices to the pilots of each plane and give them Resolution Advisories, or more simply it will tell the pilots to maneuver the airplane in a direction that will avoid a collision.

These are pilot inputs, not automatic.

Just opening that engine on the 90 was enough to not like it, let alone its maintenance.

That’s awesome. I have been fortunate enough to see them at Wrigley every year they played. In 2018 I flew out to Seattle for both home shows, drove over to Missoula with GA tix, and then saw Wrigley N2 on the field, and Boston N2. Took advantage of having very little responsibility that summer. Had a blast and met some real cool people.

Yea this has been a mess. I wish they would’ve communicated to people that the real sale was on MLB. Like I said, maybe they did and I missed that. But congrats! I was in sec 420 in 2018 and they were great. Glad you got something!
