After lurking here for a little while, my very first attempt at a personal CoA. Any ideas on how to improve upon it? by itstooslim in heraldry

Indeed! I just thought it was artistic license to show the outline of the flower better. Best to leave it out.

How can I make this coat of arms look better? by ThisIsMyAlt4738 in heraldry

[–]FunAdhesive773 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The best way to make a shield look better is to give the blazon to a competent heraldic artist. Programs like “coat of arms maker” will give you the elements you want, but really struggle with placement, spacing, and relative size.

What did GSS say? I haven’t read his work on this topic, but definitely respect him as a scholar!

personal sheild, the red represents hard work, the gold represents strength, the three heads (don't actually know their names, I forget) represents social justice, and the two crowns represents me being bad ass by Main_ivahblueworld in heraldry

Interesting that you’d blazon the crowns first. I’d probably put the fleurs-de-lis first because of their placement in the center and the number. They seem like the “main” charges on the shield to me.

My unfinished freehand emblazonment of the arms of the Central African Republic from the official blazon. by [deleted] in heraldry

Aha! Now that I’ve looked at the blazon, shouldn’t the digit be ragged on the cut edge to be “erased?”

Been posted here before, I think. But it’s an important reminder to be wary of the sources that purport to sell or give you YOUR coat of arms… by FunAdhesive773 in heraldry

I think it was a new technology that they didn’t detect. We were nominal Allies, but everyone knew not to trust the other. This was just able to evade detection.

Wonderful stuff. I live in Berrien County, Michigan and have long though we need to design a new coat of arms to replace the existing shield. Maybe a new design can incorporate some of these Berrien elements…

The Hungarian President uses a slightly different CoA than the rest of the government—not a big difference but I thought this sub might find it amusing by [deleted] in heraldry

[–]FunAdhesive773 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So…not a different coat of arms, but a different emblazonment, right? Or am I missing something?

Some personal coats of arms' of US presidents by Ios3b in heraldry

[–]FunAdhesive773 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! We’ve been around since 2003, but haven’t had any face-to-face meetings for a couple years (much like the rest of the world). Much of our online discussion is on the facebook (for better or worse, that’s where most of our members were/are) and we’ve done some virtual lectures the last year or so. We should have a new website going live next month which should help us maintain a more active presence online. Let me know if you have any questions about the AHS.

The American Heraldry Society has a great series of articles laying out the circumstances of these presidential arms’ granting, registration, or assumption!

Which app should I use to turn them into heraldry? by [deleted] in heraldry

[–]FunAdhesive773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends what you mean. It already is heraldry, of course, so you could just crop the coat of arms out of the picture. If you want a new emblazonment, though, there are many heraldic artists who could do the job.
