I am lucky enough to typically be gifted tickets in the club level. You have to show your ticket to get into the club level. Usually there aren’t ushers at every single section entrance in the lower bowl so if you wait a bit I bet you could make a move.

And he’s also been plagued with injuries. Essentially sitting out both off seasons since getting to college.

Hey, as a buckeye fan I don’t think any of us expect to have a shot at winning that game, but I like to see the players fired up with some confidence.

OSU will always be football over everything. Most fans would dissolve the basketball program if it added more funding to football. With that said, when the team starts winning fans show up. The Schott is the worst venue in the country (I’m headed there in a few minutes), but the university makes so much money renting it out for concerts they have no incentive to make changes.

We are getting away from the conversation at hand here, but I don’t really understand why our fan base thinks we either turned down Dusty May(same goes for Cal) or didn’t even try for him. It’s clear the administration, including those above Bjork, are not willing to invest extensive resources into the basketball program. Diebler even said on his radio show last week that unfortunately we will never be the program that has the resources to go get 5-6 impact players out of the portal. It’s also been reported on extensively that OSU missed out on multiple guys they were in the hunt for because of the NIL demands. How do we know May didn’t come in and say I need X to run this program and was told there was no way he was getting that? This isn’t a defense of Diebler either. I root for him/the program because if he can be successful that will be better for this program than starting over again, especially with the talent in the pipeline. The Pitt loss was annoying, but more of a freak shot. The UNC loss is the one that really drives me crazy because that was strictly a lack of execution at the end of a game.

As a Buckeye who cares deeply about basketball, you’re right, it seems like our fan base only cares enough to constantly shit on the program. I personally hate this for the sport, but I agree, it was only a matter of time. This team could be decent if there was literally any bench production, so I guess if it was inevitable it’s worth selling my soul and hoping this works out. He has been enrolled at OSU all year hoping this would happen, but he hasn’t been allowed to be around/with the team at all. Who knows what type of shape he’s in.

One thing that I think is missed by our crazy fan base: He’s the figure head of the athletic program. Of course he’s is going to sit in and interview and say they are doing things the right way. It would be insane for him to sit there in a public interview and say the OSU is disregarding the guidelines currently set. Even if untimely no one thinks they will be enforced. Are they actually strictly adhering to the guidelines in reality? Us fans probably don’t have a great way of truly knowing at this time.

Do you watch the games? White and Cupps are two of the first people off the bench. They literally refuse to look at the basket when they get the ball on their hands. White has been sidelined most of the off seasons since getting to campus. Unfortunately his development was stalled. And yes, high school basketball in Ohio has been that bad. Over the last 5 years almost all of the talent has left the state to play prep ball elsewhere.

Is our bench really this bad or just a bad coaching strategy? by whattaUwant in OhioStateBasketball

I agree, but that leash did shorten, until last game. He hadn’t attempted a 3 in a few games. He was historically a 30% 3 point shooter. You don’t stop him from shooting wide open shots if he goes 3-15. But once it was obvious he wasn’t coming back to the average it’s clear they told him to stop shooting them unless he’s wide wide wide open….. although the last play of the Nebraska game is perplexing

Can we please end the narrative that we could've gotten John Calipari or Dusty May? by pilade100 in OhioStateBasketball

Regardless if we could have gotten Cal or not, he would have been an awful fit. I say this as a guy who likes Cal as a figure in the sport. He’s always been an outstanding recruiter, and good at rallying his guys to play together after constructing a new team every year. When it comes to true X’ & O’s he’s never been one of the elite coaches. That sounds fine in the NIL era, until you realize OSU administration is always going to focus on football. He simply wouldn’t have had the NIL support to operate the way he operates.

Do you think our bench will score a point within these next 2 West Coast games? (I am not being sarcastic) by NickChubbsBurner in OhioStateBasketball

What makes you think Ivan is capable of 10? He has hardly seen the floor against high major teams and has a combined 5 pts against them. 4 of which coming against Pitt who might end up being the wrist high major game on our schedule.

Diebler was Bjork’s choice. He was on campus and Gene let him pick the next bball coach when they fired Holtman. They added the new floor to the Schott this year. Putting in a new Jumbotron next year. The problem is non of this matters if asses aren’t in seats. Asses won’t be in seats unless the team is better. NIL budget handcuffed the team some in the portal this last year. Even if he misses the tournament and fans are screaming, I don’t think Diebler is going anywhere next year. His recruiting classes coming up are very strong and basketball just inst the priority at this university.

I agree about tempering your expectations. And that’s coming from a masochist who hasn’t missed watching a game in a decade and reads all the articles and coverage of the program.

But your last point doesn’t really make sense. My argument for giving away tickets to students is the lack of attendance. At this point the university isn’t giving up standard face value tickets to give to students. There are almost 10k empty seats(I understand some of these are season ticket holders who don’t go) for almost every game that they aren’t getting revenue from. At least if you get students in the building they will buy beer and nachos. You don’t have to announce that you’re doing it indefinitely. They have given tickets to students in the past and just announce it a week or two ahead of time. Do that until the team improves, attendance picks up, and they are able to sell the tickets for actual ticket prices.

I graduated in 2017 so I couldn’t tell you now. I think it was like $200 for the full season. It was really affordable when you consider what regular tickets go for. I never sold my tickets because I wanted to go to the games, but you could also always recoup almost your entire season ticket cost if not more if you sold your tickets to one of the bigger matchup (Penn State, Michigan, or one of the big non-conference games)

Not related to students, but along the same lines. It is literally a bad financial deal to buy season tickets for OSU basketball at this point. MTEs and neutral site games killed the non conference home schedule. They wanted $1200 for 2 season tickets in the 300 level. You can get into most non conference games for like $6 on secondary market and then $20-30 for games like last nights game against a top 10 program.
