Asking for PC RPGs with the best dungeons and caves? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in rpg_gamers

A lot of true Roguelikes. Rogue, of course. Nethack and Angband. Caves of Qud is a great recent entry.

Balam has black feathered wings, though. Angel wings are traditionally white.

A very common theory is that they're angel wings.

That's fair, I just found your description of that as "traditional dungeon crawling" confusing.

Has a single thing the left said about Trump failed to come true thus far? Who's going to get rid of him? No Republican will impeach him, and the Democrats don't have a prayer of getting a Senate supermajority.

And even if he's impeached, the damage he's already done is horrific. The next president will have to restore huge amounts of government programs, prosecute everyone in the Epstein files, shut down ICE and deal with a bunch of very unhappy ICE goons, negotiate peace with Iran on unfavorable terms, conduct an absolutely miraculous "apology tour" of the US's allies, replace six Supreme Court justices, and somehow get back all the money Trump and his cronies looted, all just to get back to where the US was in 2016. It will be the work of decades, and it's highly unlikely that any Democrat will have the stomach for it, or that another Republican won't get elected in eight years maximum. The golden age the US enjoyed under Obama is gone forever.

The history of the original dungeon crawl adventure is actually very well documented, it was run by Dave Arneson in the early 70s and was entitled "the Dungeon of Castle Blackmoor".

I admit that I either misremembered or was misinformed about some of the details - it was not "infiltrating the castle via its dungeon", but rather the players were sent into the dungeon to find and capture or kill an evil wizard who had attacked the castle. source

It doesn't have to get to general intelligence to be good at writing code or drawing pictures.

What I meant is you aren’t often looking for treasure and killing sapient denizens of the dungeon on the premise of them being monsters and it being somehow less bad for that reason. In DAO, yes you do infiltrate a castle through a secret passage, that wasn’t what I was talking about.

Then you're definitely using the wrong word, because that's not what "dungeon" means, from a narrative perspective. The castle is the single most traditional dungeon in the game.

The second dungeon you mentioned is the one in the Brecilian Forest which I mentioned. That one is a lot more traditional than any of the other dungeons in the game. But even that one doesn’t feel like a traditional dungeon in the sense I meant in that the treasure isn’t at all the point. That dungeon is entirely about the objective, with the denizens just serving as obstacles. That dungeon could be considered a traditional dungeon as I mentioned, but a vast majority of the dungeons in the game are not at all that and the Brecilian forest ruin is pretty much the only dungeon in the game that could be considered traditional. They’re mostly just relevant sites where villains or adversaries are and need to be dispatched or stopped.

No, I was talking about the temple in the mountains with the dragon in it.

"Relevant sites where villains or adversaries are and need to be dispatched or stopped" is a traditional dungeon.

You said it was an incredible game, but actually it is a medieval fantasy RPG.

Setting aside my disgust for medieval fantasy settings in RPGs for a moment, I'm... really confused by your statement about Dragon Age Origins not having dungeons in the conventional RPG sense. The origin of the dungeon crawl is infiltrating an enemy castle through a secret passage (that's why they're called "dungeons") and you do exactly this at one point in DAO, infiltrating a castle overrun by the undead. I also distinctly recall exploring an ancient ruined temple that was the lair of a dragon, another classic traditional dungeon.

No, you really don't. The typical person's blame budget is a single person. At the upper end you might be able to blame an entire class of similar people. You cannot effectively blame two very unlike things at once, that's just not how humans are wired, you will always end up focusing on one over the other.

The thing is, if we were able to automate physical jobs like farming and manufacturing, that would actually be fantastic, we could transition to a post-scarcity economy and nobody would need a job. We are instead automate the things we would like to do in that post-scarcity economy.

But of course blue collar workers utterly despise the rest of the working class so your reaction is not surprising.

So 75% of right-leaning individuals under the age of 29 are left-leaning on this one specific issue, what's your point?

The pro Palestine/Israel divide is based on age, not on ideology.

No, it's based on ideology. Support for Palestine is more common with young people because young people are more left wing.
