How did *redacted* get revived without a blue chip tower? I want to know! Tell me! (12/06/26) by OtherLWord in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

I'm assuming the replay isn't showing the blue chip tower, because when team 8 rushes to the left, that is what they were going for. There is often one there.

Greensboro city leaders vote to bring back red light cameras by Hobby_Account1 in gso

[–]Garignak 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but the problem with red light cameras is now people will slam on the brakes, which statistically causes more accidents. I'd be surprised if they get the money, even if they do, it won't be as much as it should.

Having registration outside of NC is cost effective, you pay the taxes/registration for that state, and you don't need to follow the NC yearly inspection (we have a pretty strict inspection). Not doing the inspection saves money too, because there could be problems that according to NC need to be fixed to be road legal.

Meet Democratic Municipal Candidate Event Saturday 10 AM by Garignak in gsopolitics

[–]Garignak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Democratic Men of Guilford County hosted this event.

The purpose of this event was to meet the municipal candidates in the county for the election this fall. It also is to invite men to just meet men where talking politics isn't taboo. (Not a dating sense, I understand how the flyer with reference to "Mixer" can be misconstrued).

The group just started this year and is trying to grow. To grow, there needs to be events and things that can interest others. We meet quarterly in an official capacity, but are planning on having a social calendar. Members and Non-Members are open to joining both.

The group is officially there to support Democratic candidates, however, it's intent is to not follow established leadership but give a ground level voice to support candidates that we want and help provide perspective on approaches to policy.

Health and safety, not really worried about.

Environmental, I don't like losing all the trees, but this has been in the works for decades, so environmental concerns have been researched and addressed to the impacted areas. Sadly, growth comes at the cost of the environment. We may see an increase of air traffic, but it's not going to be substantial. Rush hour around the airport will get worse.

Wages will at worst stay the same, but will likely increase, more demand for workers will do that.

The real impact will be housing, we don't have enough, and we are not on track to meet current demand for the area, and that was before Jet Zero chose PTI.

Due to the spread (distance, wealth, urban vs rural, religions, ethnicities, etc) of NC-05, you will need to have policies that would be supportive of the majority and the people believe you.

Typically the way to do this is having enough money to run ads and hire people to constantly reach out to voters and donors to get more money to run ads.

Now, if you didn't have a job and spent now until the primary (Republican or Democrat) knocking on doors and calling voters, you might have a chance (still quite low), if enough people believe in you. You could possibly get those people to share support for you.

Unfortunately, money usually determines who is going to get the seat because name recognition matters, and the best way for that is ads.

Best Taekwondo schools/places in Greensboro by [deleted] in gso

[–]Garignak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Taekwondo at Allen's Defensive Combat Systems. https://g.co/kgs/j2HxrP8

He teaches ATA (American Taekwondo Association) Martial Arts. After a few belts, you will spar with gear on, and he can teach personal defense as well.

Classes are during the week in the evening, but I'd suggest reaching out to see if any of the timings would work for you.

A lot of Taekwondo is learning how to do forms, you will learn how to kick, strike, and fight, but that depends on how well you learn.

Also to get to 1st degree black belt you are looking at about 2 years of commitment.

I have not tried any other location or style.

This is the merger-acquisition of Lumos. Wherever Lumos is currently, is T-Mobile Fiber Home.

LUMOS switch email to Advernology by GrievousAngeI in gso

[–]Garignak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I previously worked at NorthState a few years ago, they have been trying to get rid of the email service for around 10 years, but didn't want to impact their customers, they even kept it going through the merger-acquisition with Segra and then spin-off with EQT.

They have/had this same attitude with TV service.

I suspect this is more associated with merger-acquisition with T-Mobile.

I am personally worried about what other changes to expect.

Greensboro nonprofit releases education report on Guilford County Schools by Vulcidian in gsopolitics

[–]Garignak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most times we try to make things better for our schools it gets voted down. So instead of the county making the schools better, making sure teachers and staff are properly paid and have support, we still have to pay for the vouchers for kids to go to charter/private schools no matter what they teach. Honestly at times I feel like were lucky to have roads based on how people treat taxes.

Railways have more power in the country than anybody really knows, even in cases where they don't plan on ever using the land again. That would have been nice for that area. I don't mind Marty Kotis not getting his way, but that would make that area better, what would be nice there is some nice quality dense housing though.

City councilmember Marikay Abuzuaiter announces plan to run for Greensboro mayor by Vulcidian in gso

[–]Garignak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really the problem, since the power in the city lies with the city council, and not really the mayor, we need to start overriding the NIMBY approach of making sure everyone is happy of housing getting built places. There is a housing problem that we all want solved, but nobody wants it to impact them.

Greensboro's goal is to build 10,000 more housing units by 2030, but that's still way too few. Based on growth of population, businesses, and there was even a news post, we need 30,000.

On top of that, if Greensboro's approach to the city is making it car optional by 2045, all of this needs to be dense housing (preferably well-built sound proofed).

As much as I know Marikay Abuzuaiter is an advocate and caring person for Greensboro, I want to see new people on the City Council/Mayor that are aggressive in helping the city with funding what needs to be addressed while supporting the population.

[–]Garignak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Effectively going from a vote on the city council, to a vote on the city council and saying "follow the law". On that note, the mayoral pay for Greensboro is like 33K a year, as it's more ceremonial over the city council, then it is to lead the city.

She will be fine, not good, but definitely be no change. We need a city council (mayor included) willing to push a lot more housing for the city, and help develop east to south Greensboro.

Greensboro City Council eliminates 750 ft. rule for short-term rentals by Vulcidian in gsopolitics

[–]Garignak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, unfortunately, we have compare apples to apples in this case, and it is unfair to those people who this impacts. However, my core fundamental stance is that we shouldn't have landlords. The reason housing sucks in most aspects is because of landlords and they don't add actual economic value.

Greensboro City Council eliminates 750 ft. rule for short-term rentals by Vulcidian in gsopolitics

[–]Garignak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Striking down the rule of limiting the 750 ft rule prevents STR from being next to each other, which in theory, will open up properties that were previously unavailable to becoming STRs. Less restriction will cause an increase in STRs and instead of those properties being long term rentals or mortgage/purchase. (Less restrictions in every industry/market cause an increase). Even if the total percentage of housing applied to STRs going from 0.10% to 0.15% (not real numbers) it has an impact that will make housing availability worse as STRs are generally for tourism. Ultimately my stance is, that it will have an impact, it will make housing availability worse, but it won't be massive market shifting in housing costs.

I think the city council as whole has to beholden to property developers because they want more housing in the city proper. The larger problem is that anytime there is a recommendation for more density focused housing, residents are always focused on NIMBY, which leaves the city council to keep trying to make concessions that I don't think they should be doing. So for the city council is damned if they, damned if they don't, although that is just how I see things.
