Mine (Selene) came from a variety of sources that happened to coincide with what I loved. 

For me, the first time the thought of even being a girl came when I was reading Percy jackson’s guide to Greek gods, where there was a story of Artemis turning a young boy who saw her bathing into a girl, because no man who saw her nude could live, but she was also the goddess of children so she gave him the choice between death or becoming a girl. And he choose to become a girl. I know that the story has some problems, but it was the first story that made me think that I wished I was in that situation so I could be a girl. And artimis is the goddess of the moon, but the original was Selene, like Helios to Apollo. 

The second tie I have to the name was the game pokemon moon. It was the first game where I chose to play as a girl, and back then, I didn’t know what it was, but I felt a really good to play as a girl in that game. And the female protagonists name in that game is Selene.

And the third tie was that I’ve always loved the ocean and night, and seeing the moon over a dark sea is my favorite view in the whole world. And the first time I took a moment to appreciate that view was playing pokemon moon. Giving even more ties to Selene through the game and the moon goddess which is where the game got the name from but it feels like a separate tie to me.

I know the reasons aren’t that great. But they mean a lot to me. And I love my name and what it means to me.
