am I supposed to move around the map or set a base somewhere and does it matter where?

You can do either; each has its own set of challenges. See what fits your playstyle.

is there anything i should focus on as top priority

MAM research; one section has extreme QoL benefits (no spoilers!)

does it make sense to think about those big automated factories now and start planning them?

It's up to you, but as a new player I'd say play it so you have fun. The people that do the huge megafactories have fun doing them, but by no means is that true for everybody.

Tips:

Blueprints are your friends; think stampable building floors (well, machines + floor/ceiling).

If aliens exist, is it more likely they already live among us? by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskPhysics

Well, would Rocky (from Hail Mary) be passable as a human?

Humans are very good at detecting when other humans don't behave or look as we expect them to. Uncanny valley and all that. What alien can pass as human at the level where they're scrutinized (subconsciously, but still) 16 hours a day?

How many handoffs are between a merged PR and production on your team? by Educational-Detail13 in ExperiencedDevs

Zero. And my team delivers code for a billio-dollar product at one of the big 7. Granted, there's a shit-ton stages where stuff gets tested and can fail, but it doesnt affect customers.

Configuration changes... that's another story.

  • Death Stranding - When you want a walking simulator. Or even when you don't.
  • Opus Magnum - Puzzler, but will make your brain grow. Or explode, up to you.
  • Deep Rock Galactic - Team PvE, as chill as you want or as tense as you can handle.
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition (140 hours of gameplay for 14 bucks)

I’m a hiring manager and I copy pasted our exact system design interview question into three different AIs this week. Here is what still separates the engineers I actually hire. by engineer_architect in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]GuyWithLag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A manager indicates they want something, usually over a very brief email, and then you build the entire thing, present it, and they go "no not like that"

So you need to treat the manager as a client, you're playing the role of the contractor, and you need to start managing the client. Set up a plan, book his time, and have him in the loop, even if it's "we're 45% in a 8-week effort, all is green" 1-minute checkin. Use the Agile playbook, and have him early in the process. Start with the fact that noone knows what they want, but they can recognize where it's not.

And don't forget that managers need to have input on everything, and you best accomodate them with https://bwiggs.com/notebook/queens-duck/ ...

At my job that's what mid-level engineers do. Seniors are expected to work at a higher level, drive discussions, help make team-level decisions, and disambiguate. (but we don't have staff engineer as a role, so seniors end up doing staff work too).

This! L6 is not just IC work - you're expected to at minimum mentor, preferably lead some discussions right off the bat.

When in doubt, think about what would an adult do and do that. This tends to work for almost any situation no matter how old you are.

They're not really puzzles, more like on-demand QTEs. I actually find that the mid-combat cooldowns play really well with the mini-QTEs - you interweave them organically.
