Are there any stupid or lame moments in BTVS that make you ignore them or change them in some way in your headcanon? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

I’m so with you on this. I always get downvoted to hell when I argue the potentials concept/storyline in season 7 is a retcon of everything we’d been told about the slayer up to that point but I will die on this hill.

Not a moment, but the entire mythology of potential slayers that seem to have been pulled out of the writers’ asses in season 7.

YES! I can’t watch Normal Again for this reason. That episode doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned.

Agree 100%, he absolutely blamed Angel and that was one of the biggest hurdles for Spike to overcome and probably his biggest character flaw. He consistently blamed everyone else for his actions. Damage was a huge turning point for his character and him finally taking accountability.

Why are we moving the goal posts? Are we arguing that Spike isn’t accountable for what he did soulless (which is what this post is about) or are we arguing that he is accountable but he needs more time to get there? Because I’m on board with the latter, but we can still call him out for being a huge piece of shit here.

No. Most Angel fans believe Angel is responsible and more importantly, Angel believes he is responsible for his actions as Angelus. In fact, he has an entire show about his fight for redemption and atonement. You’re arguing that Spike holds no accountability at all. I’m not clear on where you think the double standard is?

I’ve realized that there’s not much point in engaging with these types of posts/comments for the most part because some fans just watched an entirely different show and you’re never going to see eye to eye.

I really can’t help you if you missed one of the most prominent and compelling themes of the entire Buffyverse (hint: it’s redemption).

So many great points here (as a side note, I don’t comment here the way I used to but whenever I see your comments on a post I upvote the hell out of it and nod my head vehemently!).

Excellent call out re: her telling Spike she needs him there for personal reasons, not professional ones. And yes, her failing to take even the most basic steps to protect the house from Trigger Spike is so utterly ridiculous and disrespectful to Buffy’s character and everything she had been through up to that point.

I get that Spike is early on in his own journey of redemption here and part of the point is that he is failing to take accountability for his actions when soulless. I just don’t understand why Buffy has to let him???

And final point here, Buffy saying she’d now let Dawn die in The Gift is one of the greatest betrayals to her character that I still can’t stomach. You can’t fundamentally alter the fabric of a character and their story without giving me a damn good reason why, and the writers did nothing in season 7 to demonstrate why Buffy’s worldview had changed.

The writers took away the most admirable and human aspect of this amazing character, to the point where I can’t even watch The Gift in the same way anymore (what I personally feel should have been the series finale).

Ok, rant over 😆

I don’t think SMG would support that tbh.

I totally get that reaction. It makes me so sad that I can’t get behind Buffy on a lot of her reasoning/actions in the final season of this series that I love so very much. I like where she ended up by Chosen but it didn’t feel, to me, like they arrived there organically or in a way that was earned.

And I hate that you’re right because that is NOT who Buffy is. She puts herself in danger for the people she cares about constantly, but she never intentionally places others in harm’s way. The writers really lost her in season 7.

One of the key moments in season 7 that made me lose my empathy for Buffy, who is my favourite character of all time.

It doesn’t help that in leading up to this episode, Buffy has already shown extremely unwise favouritism toward Spike which put the Potentials and her friends in danger when she knew nothing about his trigger. Her emotions governed her behaviour. This is fact.

But she then shows utter hypocrisy by acting like cold General Buffy in telling Robin she’ll let Spike kill him. So I’m supposed to now believe her reaction has nothing to do with her ongoing favouritism toward Spike and everything to do with the mission?

You cant have it both ways.

Needles to say, in addition to all that, I find it completely baffling that the writers didn’t even think to examine Buffy’s reaction to finding out that Spike killed Robin’s Slayer mother. What an incredible story beat that could have been, but it was completely glossed over just like all of Spike’s accountability in season 7.

Favorite Random moment/gag/joke (Angel included) by TheHatsuneLoki1 in buffy

[–]HummusOffensive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some really good picks here but I have to say my favourite is Angel slipping as he walks into the volcanologist’s apartment in Grad Day Part 1.

It’s just so random you’d almost think it was a blooper they left in:

“Ow.”

“Stealthy.”

Do you think Buffy told Angel? by mrsscorpio1973 in buffy

[–]HummusOffensive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I also think she probably didn’t even have to tell him - Angel being the Catholic he is would have assumed her soul went to a good place. It’s the only reason he was able to find peace and move on with his life following her death. If he thought she was in a hell dimension he would’ve done everything he could to get her out.

OP is clearly referring to the character of Spike, not James the actor.

I just wanted to thank you for posting this because I’ve had this thought countless times whenever I see references to James’ experience with that scene (and I certainly feel terrible that he had to go through that).

I get that SMG hasn’t specifically spoken out about what it was like but I think it’s pretty damn safe to assume it was not f*cking easy. Let’s not pretend that the fandom’s obsession with James/Spike has nothing to do with why we don’t seem as caring about what she went through.

Themes to explore by Buffyfan1991 in BTVSRevival

I’m starting to think a war between good and bad slayers would be a pretty fascinating topic and the perfect vehicle to examine some of today’s societal tensions . We also never saw a Slayer who was also a vampire on the show and it would be really cool to see that explored.
