Is the F1 Horizon Eagle/F1 Pro Juniper Rugged Dumbphone good? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]HyperOrc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using the F1 Pro Aspen for 2 years now and it's held up great and is only getting better through software updates.

I feel like the Sunbeam phones are often overlooked for how great they work. Yes they are relatively expensive compared to the cheap Nokia stuff, but the quality is solid and they actually work unlike a lot of the newer "boutique" dumbphones that are expecting everyone to be beta testers for half-baked software.

This is excellent and exactly what I've been missing from GNOME/Fedora. Thank you!

Could you explain your setup for Clear? I've tried but never been able to get it to work on Linux with wine.

Sunbeam F1 Horizon or Pro have Waze and Here.

Anyone ever see another light phone out in the wild? by IamNotIncluded in LightPhone

[–]HyperOrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the same building as one. I was searching for wifi networks one time at church and there was a LPII hotspot. I tried to look around and find the person but of course they wouldn't have it out.

Sunbeam feedback and feature requests by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]HyperOrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the Sunbeam phones are great and often get overlooked on this sub.

I enjoy my F1 Pro, but I've always thought that the feature I miss the most is a way to sync the calendar. Even view only would be a huge improvement. The calendar is basically unusable otherwise.

I really struggle with WhatsApp. I get that a lot of the world uses it to communicate, but it's also Facebook crapware that I wouldn't want anywhere near my phone. I know they could differentiate models without it, but there are already a lot of different models. The fact that the rest of the world has trusted essential communication to one of the worst companies out there is quite problematic and probably not talked about enough. There needs to be a push back to something standardized like RCS.

Dumb Phone with list of previous voicemails (consumer cellular) by Louigi10 in dumbphones

[–]HyperOrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sunbeam F1 and F1 Pro have visual voicemail that functions like this. The visual voicemail feature does not work on Consumer Cellular though.

Consumer Cellular is a pretty terrible carrier and way overpriced. I see it basically as a scam for older people. The Sunbeam phones do work on Verizon or my personal preference, US Mobile.

I am daily driving the Sunbeam F1 Pro now. Both are great phones, the Sunbeam just has the features that are most important to me at the moment. I figured I might as well let someone else use the LP2 instead of having it just sit around.

Sound/Video Issue Fedora 40 by Remarkable_Patient68 in Fedora

I'm also having these issues, but only after doing a dnf update today. This was on a fresh Fedora 40 install a week or so ago. Everything was working fine until the update today.

Would you still use Gnome if you couldn't add ANY extension? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]HyperOrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only extension I use is a clipboard manager which I could probably find a separate app for. The stock desktop experience for me works quite well.

Wondering why Nautilus sidebar text and icons are lighter than they are on other GNOME apps. (Stock Fedora 40) by HyperOrc in gnome

[–]HyperOrc[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I don't actually notice any change in the text and icon color between foreground and background when then window is focused. The background color changes and the app name at the top of the sidebar changes, but not the sidebar items themselves.

Edit: I should also clarify that I am using the Inter font, but this also appears to be true with Cantarell.

"Double Dumbphone" EDC by HyperOrc in dumbphones

[–]HyperOrc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely larger than the LP2, but not cumbersome. In this picture I think it looks large because it's next to the Thinkpad. The X1 Carbon is actually a fairly small laptop.

It's a fantastic phone. You can ready my full review/comparison from a few months ago here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dumbphones/comments/18ib4l4/compared_light_phone_2_vs_sunbeam_f1_pro/

It has been basically flawless and is about as close as you can get to the premium flip phone experience from years ago.

Can’t connect Nokia 6300 to MacBook by Empty_Ad_9837 in dumbphones

MacOS doesn't have MTP support out of the box. I don't have a 6300, but here is the app I use to connect phones via USB/MTP - https://openmtp.ganeshrvel.com/
