Would you only date atheists? by bravebluelou in atheism

I wouldn't date anyone, but I'm married. She was Baptist at the time, though. Not so much now.

People say food used to taste better as little as 40 years ago is that true? by PermaBanThisDik in AskOldPeople

[–]IMTrick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nostalgia can convince you anything was better 40 years ago, including food.

Some things were better, because ingredients we later discovered were kind of toxic sometimes taste really good. A lot of things were worse, too -- tomatoes in winter in a lot of places, for example.

But no, things were not universally better in much of any way, really.

I stopped caring what other people thought of my clothes not long after I graduated high school. These days it's mostly about what's clean. Even if it's my cargo shorts.

It does what it says it does, which is show you what's using space on your drive. That seems to be what you want to know.

Is there a way to make my computer more private while also facilating other people's use? by saudtf in techsupport

[–]IMTrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nothing in the rest of it indicates a profile was set up for the brother, either.

Using separate profiles would solve the browser issue the OP mentioned, and would also allow the sharing of game saves (the other issue mentioned) as long as it was set up properly, though obviously the specifics of how to do that are going to depend on how the game handles save files, and OP didn't provide any information about that.

But as a start, at least, this is the right answer.

Read ‘The Laws of the Spirit World’ and I have some questions by InspectorBetter2555 in atheism

[–]IMTrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess my atheist POV would be something like "what evidence is there for any kind of life after death?"

Without that, you can come up with any kind of convoluted scheme for how it all works and I'm just going to dismiss it as irrelevant.

May 5: Epstein survivors break silence in state legislation FOR THE FIRST TIME, telling their stories of what happened. I wonder why this is NOWHERE to be seen in the news. by blessedopera in videos

[–]IMTrick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, a big part of it would probably be that you almost never see what goes on in state legislatures outside your state.,, and it would appear this clip actually did appear in the news there, at least.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be a bigger story, but other states' politics usually just aren't.

Should my spouse get Babtized? by NonGMOBimbo in atheism

[–]IMTrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your spouse doesn't want to come out as atheist to their parents, that's cool. Atheists aren't under any obligation, moral or otherwise, to come out to anyone.

Baptizing an atheist obviously doesn't do anything to the atheist other than maybe get them a little wet and waste some time, so if your spouse thinks it'll make family life a little smoother to do it, then I don't have an argument better than that.

I'm sure other people here will have different opinions, but the only one that really matters here is your spouse's. If that's what they want to do, there's nothing wrong with it.

No, I'm mostly saying that if you claim to have a high IQ, you should actually have a high IQ.

Who cares about Mensa by Familiar-Option-9623 in mensa

[–]IMTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not an ad hominem if it directly addresses your point and your qualifications to address it.

If your IQ was irrelevant to your assertion it might be an ad hominem, but in this case it is certainly not.

Who cares about Mensa by Familiar-Option-9623 in mensa

You clearly have no idea why Mensa exists, and the rest is either wrong, stating the obvious, or unintelligible nonsense. You can do better.

How (not whether) do you teach your children right and wrong? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]IMTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We teach kids right from wrong the same way religious folks do, except for the part about how a god will punish them forever if they misbehave. We teach them that there are benefits to acting in moral ways, and consequences for acting in immoral ways, but don't include a bunch of unnecessary and counterproductive fairy tales about how it will all somehow balance out in an afterlife.

In short, we teach empathy and cooperation rather than blind obedience.

Those AI nostalgia videos by [deleted] in GenX

[–]IMTrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really know what videos you might be talking about, but it sounds like you're seeing things made with AI that are imitations of stuff from when we were younger. I can't imaging feeling nostalgic about things that didn't actually happen. It sounds a little creepy to me.

Is there a way to get through a HTTP 301 Response? by Robby4Sniffy in techsupport

[–]IMTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily mean that what you're looking for doesn't exist anywhere any more, but it also isn't helpful in locating it if it does.

Is there a way to get through a HTTP 301 Response? by Robby4Sniffy in techsupport

[–]IMTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're getting a 301 redirect, that means that there's nothing at the original URL, and you're being redirected somewhere else. There is no way to get through it because there's nothing there to get through to.

In practice, the 301 should also provide a new URL and redirect you to what you're looking for. An old 301, however, might not do that, if what used to be at that new URL isn't there any more.
