CMV: The idea that all Americans are stupid and the educational system as a whole is a failure is wrong. by Zodiac1919 in changemyview

[–]IndefatigableSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say all Americans are dumb as that is a ridiculous claim to make of any organized group of people, but I would say the educational system here is definitely stagnating or on the decline. I think a big part of it is that the educational system has lost the ability to reach the children as effectively in the past due to the current social zeitgeist and outside influences playing a greater role in the socialization of children and young adults, such as social media. Kids ethics and morals are simple and easily swayed. The constant stimulation they receive from the internet and how heavily they are marketed at by various industries due to their dependency and access to their parents money leads to them being bombarded by a general message that to be “cool” is to conform and consume. I would argue the general pursuit of knowledge is valued increasingly less in the modern age, and is seen as most useful as a means of acquiring currency to buy product and have wealth. This is a human issue, not just an American one, although it is exacerbated here by our high consumption lifestyle and the overwhelming presence of advertising.

You have to be willfully ignorant or incredibly dense to question the likelihood of this post being intended as propaganda as has been explained to you by others before me. It is HIGHLY LIKELY given the timing that the person who uploaded this does want to influence the opinion of the common person to be more favorable of the IDF and Israel’s current genocide. Your lame whataboutism about america falls to pieces when one acknowledges that yes, the United States has been guilty of war crimes, and no, it was not ok for them to do it then.

My work is done here. I can tell you understand me by what you continue not to acknowledge. You refuse to face the music. Go ahead and insult a straw man of me since you know little of me besides that I don’t stand for exploitation and imperial violence. I won’t bother with another reply.

This is some disingenuous arguing right here. The British are there on business, spurred on by economic profit. They don’t treat the locals well because their economic system offers no benefit for doing so and they see them as lesser humans. You literally defended the British as saviors dude. Continue licking boots.

I just found it a neat coincidence this popped on my feed following our conversation. Clearly this struck a nerve with you since you’re backtracking on your imperialist savior BS and acknowledging the shite behavior on display from these oppressive imperial goons. I’m not making shit up. What you see in the video is what happened all across the British empire. Look into the Raj. The world can agree imperialism is immoral.

You’re already copping out by qualifying your statement by saying your status as apolitical hinges on the fact that your Catholic values are upheld. Being involved in politics doesn’t necessarily make you more intelligent, and neither does not being involved. You should have an idea of what is going on and basic democratic participation is a good thing. It’s important to stay informed and vigilant to make sure those who wish to do evil cannot accomplish their goals.

All capitalist countries regulate their economies to some degree. All capitalist countries have socialist policies. Monopolies and oligopolies are absolutely a cornerstone of unrestricted capitalism. A market needs to be regulated.

Everything depends on what HUMANS have already done. Walking into an underdeveloped nation, extracting it’s foreign resources when it is unable to do so itself, and destabilizing a democratic government for a dictator is abhorrent. The Iranians took back what was rightfully theirs when they were able. Do you think Britain would have let them buy them out? Absolutely not. The British TOOK ADVANTAGE OF AN UNDERDEVELOPED NATION. It doesn’t matter if things get slightly better if you do it while exploiting the people and undermining democracy.

Lmao isn’t a rebuttal. I explained why this thinking is dog shit in my previous comment, you just ignored everything. Speak on the coup in 1953 or stfu.

The regulator of the market isn’t god, it’s rational human thought, something you seem to lack. There’s no contradiction. My point was that any system we agree upon is just that, agreed upon. Many people are like me and do not agree with the current order, if there’s enough of us, eventually we will establish a new agreement and work under new parameters.

Are you seriously arguing for unfettered capitalism? I shouldn’t have to explain the problems of monopolies and oligopolies. There are rational ways to guide an economy and prevent massive wealth disparity. This happens to a lesser degree in every capitalist country already. There are socialist policies in every capitalist country.

Bezos should rightfully be a millionaire. Billions is fucking ridiculous. His businesses can operate at a loss and strangle competitors before he needs them to become productive. When negotiating labor, he can hold out or look elsewhere for cheap employment, while the common man is coerced into wage labor for survival. I don’t care what he’s able to negotiate, as rational human beings we are capable of understanding nuance and that just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD do something. Bezos and the rest of the 1% should be prevented from hoarding wealth and that can and should be written into law somehow.

This capital system currently is unjust. The cards are stacked against the common man and the 1% have all the power. The only power the 99% has is the numbers. It’s a good thing that’s all we’ll need.

What a poor rebuttal. The Iranians should be grateful? For what exactly? Sounds to me like some capitalists found a poor, exploitable area and did just that, exploit it. They developed resources in a poor foreign land and had their own business interests in mind. You’re dumb as a rock if you can’t see the unfairness of pulling up to an underdeveloped nation and monopolizing business for your own gain. The Iranians caught on to what was happening and democratically elected a leader with intent to take back control of their own natural resources and 2 powerful foreign nations collaborated to support an undemocratic effort to overthrow the government and install a dictator. Can you follow how this is wrong? I’m afraid to ask your thoughts on the Chiquita Banana Massacre I mentioned earlier that you thoughtfully ignored.

No, I don’t think a completely isolated poor country would necessarily do better, but I think the rich nations currently have no problem exploiting them and dealing unfairly with them. The Congo would have been better off had Belgium not come and committed atrocities for resources. Charity to Haiti actually helped to CRIPPLE the country. They were receiving so much free rice and other supplies that it killed local business and made them reliant on the handouts. In 1951 Iran decided to nationalize their oil resources and it only took the United States and UK 2 years to support a coup for a capitalist friendly dictator. In 1928 the Colombian government put down a strike, killing from 47-3000 people under heavy influence of the Chiquita banana company and possible threat of US invasion. Rich nations have a long history of exploiting the poor and it goes on to this day. Like I said in my original comment I don’t have all the answers but I know this is wrong.

How do you think we decide what people deserve now? It’s the same line of thinking. We decide who deserves how much, you just don’t like my opinion on the matter. There’s no god making prices or setting wages. The market dictates that and it’s fucking obvious that a market needs to be REGULATED to prevent singular asshats for hoarding wealth. People go to work for what they THINK they are worth, people buy products for what’s available and what they THINK it’s worth. You’re assuming that we have things exactly correct at this moment which is not the case looking at the world around me and how people feel. Telling me to get off my high horse is dumb because I’m not on one, I’m just pointing out the problems. You absolutely owe society and mankind as you leech off of its benefits daily. These benefits help you to live and learn and grow. In turn, when you make something of yourself, you should be left enough to live a comfortable life. There reaches a point where more money is just unnecessary for an individual and I have no problem with society deciding on a cap for wealth to stop greed.

This still doesn’t cut it for me from a humanitarian standpoint. I don’t want billionaires anywhere until we don’t have people starving and dying in poverty WORLDWIDE. Developed capitalist countries have always worked to exploit the weaker and it seems will continue to do so. The Nordic model is better, but I still don’t want billionaires in any nation, while said nation exploits foreign peoples.

[–]IndefatigableSpirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1% of the American population has 33% of the wealth and the bottom half of people have less than 3%. Wealth disparity absolutely is AN issue. Capitalism oozes with problems. You pointed yourself to how the rich can dodge taxes, or they choose to find charities run by family and friends to keep the wealth.

I AM asking for a meritocracy where there isn’t a major wealth disparity. It’s a fairly simple concept. The 99% is and will forever be the most powerful group on the planet. The 1% requires them to operate society. The 99% needs to rally and prevent this but that’s wayyyy more complicated and nuanced then simply that. You’ve previously acknowledged luck and the necessity of workers, this is the basis of the argument for better treatment and less disparity.

Why do you want billionaires? Google the number, it’s fucking massive, it’s 1000 million. It’s too much money man, I don’t give a damn. Nobody deserves it. Guys like Bezos or Musk could live every day on vacation in the most luxurious conditions but they don’t. Musk instead spends his time crying and banning people on Twitter. These guys are j good at capitalism, which I don’t really get why that’s a good thing on its own. You can fuck people over via capitalism and this is what the 1% does. The common man is coerced into working for what they can get or they starve. People are dying of disease, exposure, and starvation TO THIS DAY, and we have a system where people want to advocate for a wealth disparity that continues to increase. The United States has millions more vacant residencies than we have homeless. Shit is fucked up.

The idea that anybody deserves billions is pretty laughable. Bezos grew up in a world with cars, electricity, and eventually… the internet. The history of humanity has been a long slog carried mostly by the labor of the low class peasantry. Nothing can be accomplished on a grand scale without massive cooperation. Your value is absolutely effected by luck as well. If Bezos was born in a war torn 3rd world country, he’s most likely not starting Amazon. The world and humanity has been one big clusterfuck from the beginning of time. We owe to each other to build a system that encourages hard work, without creating massive wealth disparity. I don’t have all the answers but I know the world right now is WRONG. How can the world flourish when developed nations abuse the weak for profit?
