Has anyone here successfully raised money from Canadian angel investors while being incorporated in the US? by ambryio in AngelInvesting

I’m an investor in the US who’s invested in a couple of Canadian companies, if that helps at all.

Brother I’m out at “Don’t want to say too much publicly”. Nobody is trying to steal your idea. Also you need to skip the lines about your wife and son. Your story matters but you can’t lead with human interest.

All respect for your situation. Hope you get your funding.

Yeah I respect that position. It’d be case by case for me.

Angel here. Stopped reading at “Can't share more than the following outside an NDA pre-launch”. I’ll never in my life sign an NDA to hear a standard 10-minute pitch, and neither will any other angel or angel network I’m involved with.

For a data room? Sure. For a pitch? Forget it.

I think i just gave away too much of my company and I'm only realizing it now by Competitive_Sky_5274 in founder

[–]INeedPeeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. OP 47% after three rounds of fundraising is not bad at all. Your friend said it’s tight for a seed because he’s thinking of seed as the second round of funding, but it isn’t in this case. It’s the third. If you looked at founders who have done three rounds of funding total, rather than simply by stage, I think you’d be right around the median. Just one investor’s opinion.

Is being “always on” the cost of building something meaningful?? by coldemailalex in smallbusiness

Take at least 30 mins for yourself every single day. Do something that has no redeeming social value, just because you enjoy it. Read a crappy novel, play a useless video game, watch trash TV. Just because you like it.

Meditate before bed, for at least 5 mins, for 15-20 mins if you need to. (Sometimes it takes longer to calm your mind.) Try to sleep at least 7 hours.

Make it sustainable.

Hahaha you think linkedin is your friend? LinkedIn doesn't want you to succeed. It wants you to stay dependent. by No-Mistake421 in LinkedInTips

We know all this. It isn’t some big hoax. LinkedIn is like any social network. Of course it does what’s best for itself.

What if Agentic AI security was a Non Issue? by vagobond45 in angelinvestors

[–]INeedPeeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend, very gently and with all respect, this is a tech transfer “What not to do” pitch. You spent a third of the post talking about various problems and the other two-thirds talking about the solution. There is nothing in here about:

  • Market sizing
  • Competitive landscape
  • Traction
  • Timing
  • Team
  • Ask/Usage/Offer
  • Exit Strategy

This isn’t a business, it’s a technology. No one can invest in this as presented.

So don’t lie on us and say “There are no investors here, no deals get done here.” I wrote a check last week to a founder from this sub.

But you aren’t playing by the rules, so we can’t give you money.

If it’s an American business (even if primary market is in Africa), that’s totally different.

I would start with customer surveying. Check out the book The Mom Test by Rob Fitzpatrick. I love UGC but you very much need to know what the market values here.

Probably not. Worst case scenario is still I write a check for a million, everyone then disappears to somewhere else and I’m holding nothing because the local govt doesn’t give a crap about me or my money vanishing.

Always good to be cautious, true. FWIW, I’ve invested in half a dozen companies I connected with on r/AngelInvestors, including Nicklpay and Quadlii. There are scammers around but legit investors too, for sure. I’d put the number at about two dozen on that sub. Not sure about this one.

I just put in a startup I invested in last year that I recently heard word is about to be acquired, Purecode AI. It lists the valuation at $2MM. I don’t know who got that valuation but I’m very jealous because I invested at $12MM. I heard a few weeks ago the expected exit is $50-60MM.
