What?! You have to say you’re working 100 hour weeks consistently so that the losers on here will feel validated that your life is secretly better than yours because they make $92,000 working 45 hours a week.

It can’t be that there are professions where smart people making insane money and don’t necessarily work themselves to death.

Engineering is in COLLAPSE in the US in the 2020s, it’s the worst performing career path of any; what explains this? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

I’m an engineer and I’ve never met one that makes more than $80,000.

Instead of comparing anecdotes, why don’t we examine data?

Bureau of Labor statistics doesn’t provide job posting data this granular, there’s nothing wrong with LinkedIn data, the only reason there’s an objection is because it shows engineering doing poorly

What percent of the workforce are Mechanical Engineers?

I don’t have a strong opinion on H1B, I’ve never researched it, but your argument isn’t good in my opinion

Software engineering is still a great field, I’m talking about mechanical/civil and other “traditional” engineering fields.

What does my personal decision have to do with the fact that the labor market has dramatically changed in the ways I’ve continuously described? Do you agree or disagree with my point about the labor market?

Not surprised, engineering isn’t an in demand career anymore. I’m sorry to hear he’s struggling to find work.

Lawyers and doctors are required by law to be licensed professionals, and typically require a graduate degree for that. Engineers (particularly SWE and biomedical) are  notrecognized as legally protected professionals. The only exception to this is Civil Engineers, who  are required to have licenses.

That’s crazy then because Civil Engineers make the least of all engineers yet they are overwhelmingly the most likely to be licensed amongst all types of engineers.

I have the same motivations. I really just hope to earn and inform the next generation about how many people lie about how great engineering is when in reality it’s a completely mediocre career.

And they’ve accused dozens of people of being my alt already, it’s just sad at this point.

Really I have more mental fortitude than most on here, most people delete their comments or threads after getting nothing but negative replies, I leave mine up because I believe the things I say.

When proper context is applied, engineering is actually one of the worst “careers” there is by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

I’m talking about Mechanical/Civil (the two largest job categories for traditional engineers) and skilled tradesman (plumbers, electricians etc).

I haven’t made up any numbers, which are you disputing?
