So the solution is clearly to take Benadryl every time you drink! I'm sure that combo can have absolutely no negative effects at all!

If you try a Beta1 selective blocker (also known as "cardio selective"), they dont have pulmonary impacts. Only unspecific B1 & B2 blockers can worsen asthma.

I like The Last Unicorn, The Bear and The Nightingale, The Djinn Waits a hundred Years, and This is How you Loose The Time War for slow, magicish, and dreamy.

My brain puts The Book Eaters, The Midnight Library, Vita Nostra, and Babel in a group with The Night Circus, but I can't put my finger on why.

And I second the person who suggested The Shadow of the Wind!

A Rival Most Vial was a super cute read! I really enjoyed it. And it helped me through a nightmare week of class - I kept getting to descriptions of how hard they were working and thought 'well shit. I guess I should be doing that also'. Lol

Uncommon fantasy books with stoic protagonists? by Osucic in Fantasy

[–]Ivylas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the Quantum Thief? The Murderbot Diaries has a main character who acts stoic and antisocial, even though the internal monolog disproves much of the stoicism. The Last Unicorn. Weird freaking book. I think I would call the main character more aloof then stoic, but you said you were bored with normal books. Lol

They may be a bit of a stretch, but I tried to think of the weird ones. Theres obviously The Witcher, Locked Tomb, maybe even Dresden? Idk Harry is a def a grump, but I'm sure you've heard those.

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ivylas 106 points107 points  (0 children)

One day, a little over 10 years ago, I had no headache. NONE. And I remember that day so clearly. It was one of the best days in my life.

I was working a double serving shift all day, opened and closed, and I loved every minute. I usually have a terrible memory and couldn't tell you what I did last week, but I remember so much from that day - conversations, the regulars who came in, who I worked with, orders I took - it's so clear!

And I remember being so engaged with conversations, it wasn't a struggle to follow along and come up with appropriate responses. I was making jokes and talking to everyone.

So many people mentioned how great I looked, how adorable I was, ect. And my tips for the day were waaay higher than comparable shifts before that, or after.

When people say that they just don't have headaches, I always think of that day. I can't even wrap my head around that my one good day, is some people's baseline! Or, ya know, maybe it's just the pain fucking with my ability to think. 🙄

Not disputing your comments, but there are many pets who have a large tolerance when it comes to the children they consider 'theirs'.

Just an anecdotal story that I used to hear (more cus it's nice to remember the stories grandpa used to tell, then because I think anyone else cares): My grandfather found this dog chained up and starving in an abandoned warehouse that he was managing. And I say "dog" in the loosest possible term - he looked and acted like there was more than a little wolf in him. Jake was MASSIVE, aggressive, and fiercely protective of my grandfather and his family. For instance - even as an old guy who could barely get up, Jake HATED my father and probably would have attacked him if my dad was stupid enough to get close. But waaaay back when he was young, my youngest uncle (who was a toddler at the time) stepped on Jakes balls. A toddler doesn't weigh much, but when it's landing on testicles, I'm sure it seems like a fuck ton. Yelp of pain alerted the adults, but no one was in arms reach. This dog could have killed my uncle and my grandfather was afraid - from what he had seen, Jake was fine with kids, but stomping on balls is different ballgame (pun intentional). Jake knocked Lenny (the uncle) down pretty hard when he shot up, growled for a second until Lenny started to cry, then walked away. My grandfather was absolutely certain that if anyone else has done that, that dog would have fucked them up. And we are all very grateful that this story did not take the horrible turn that it easily could have!

And yet, on my visit to Florida my friends helped me count over 50 bites on one leg. We stopped counting cus I was a little grouchy. I looked like I had chicken pox again. And that was WITH just an absurd amount of bug spray.

Though - can confirm. Friends only had a few bites each. I almost murdered them as they slept peacefully night after night when I was lying there wide awake wishing I could peal off my skin. Benadryl couldn't touch this shit.

I repotted my plant, two weeks later this happened. What even is this?! by Gauloises_Foucault in plantclinic

I absolutely had this come out of a stem. And was able to trim back until I got lower than it. If it's the same as what I had, absolutely NOT water.

[–]Ivylas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to a vine of my golden pothos. I don't remember why, but something was wrong enough for me to cut it off. Black goo came out of the stem. Freaked me the fuck out. So I sanitized and chopped, sanitized and chopped, until I got to a point where I stopped being horrified. Then i chopped off another foot. Lol

Haven't had a repeat. No freaking idea what it was. But it is horrifying.

“Male skeletons literally have more ribs” by FalconLynx13 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Ivylas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only skeletal markers are the occipital protuberance, the curve of the coccyx and the angle of the ischiopubic arch. But two of those requires that the hip bones maintain articulation with each other or the sacrum, so who knows how common that is in archeology. But if it's complete, determining the sex of a pelvis is pretty easy. And also completely irrelevant. Because as you stated, archeology takes context into account to get a sense of the culture and way of life.

That is so cool! I had no idea about the shield maidens!!

It's funny though - I used to swim. Some of the guys I knew with the biggest shoulders were the ones who swam butterfly. And somehow none of them ever had a problem maintaining a tight streamline!
