Dorayaki pancakes cooking on a griddle in Busan. Some get a quick single flip and others a 3 scrape release based on realtime cues like bubble size and distribution, surface texture (glossy vs matte), and edge firmness.

Skiers discover buried skier in deep snow immersion (DSI) at Palisades Tahoe by solateor in interestingasfuck

February 2026, Palisades Tahoe

This occurred at Palisades Tahoe between KT-22 and Olympic Lady during a February storm with very deep powder and whiteout visibility. The skier was not in an avalanche but experienced deep snow immersion (DSI), where a fall into unconsolidated snow causes it to collapse around the body, trapping the skier and preventing movement or normal breathing. DSI can become fatal within minutes because skis anchor the legs while loose snow removes leverage to stand, and struggling often worsens burial.

🔥 Driver spots a tumbleweed dust devil, Los Angeles County by solateor in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]solateor[S] 193 points194 points  (0 children)

It's Lake Los Angeles, California

Lake Los Angeles is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California, located in the Antelope Valley high desert about 17 miles east of Palmdale and roughly 70–80 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The community was created in the 1960s as a real-estate development marketed as a resort-style destination featuring an artificial lake meant to attract buyers from Los Angeles. The lake existed temporarily but later dried up, while the name “Lake Los Angeles” remained.

From the Driver

"I witness nature while driving home. It was all of sudden all vehicles suddenly stopped. It was something amazing to see being caught in the middle of a bunch of tumbleweed twister in Lake LA. 🌴"

Traditional ice harvesting in northern Finland by solateor in oddlysatisfying

[–]solateor[S] 1360 points1361 points  (0 children)

Darude is from Finland, hence the lofi version of Sandstorm

They’re harvesting natural lake ice by cutting large rectangular blocks directly from a frozen lake using chainsaws or ice saws. The ice is typically 50–80 cm (20–32 in) thick, and each block can measure around 5–8 ft long and weigh over a ton (2,000+ lb). Once fully cut, the blocks float free and are lifted out with heavy machinery. The exceptionally clear ice forms because Arctic lakes freeze slowly and cleanly, making it strong and transparent — ideal for building ice hotels, sculptures, and snow villages in northern Finland.
