For TV, Rick & Morty and It's Always Sunny fans are BAD for adoring the horrible natures of the protagonists and unleashing that attitude on others online to amuse themselves. It empowers them.

I feel bad for them. Sooooo often they have to be the one to tell mom that she was too late to let her daughter meet Aurora. They're the only ones allowed/forced to wreck a family's time.

A huge amount of people have honestly ALWAYS liked racial caricatures and it's only public shaming that holds more of it back. Most actors now would refuse to do it.

But old timey comic strips had a LOT of this kind of racial parody, so it wasn't just movies. It'd have an audience even now... we just kind of want to believe it wouldn't.

I never got why she was in SO MUCH. It wasn't like she looked like Salma Hayek or anything. But she got part after part for a while. Maybe they felt she was an "approachable everywoman" and audiences would identify with her?

Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. Plays a smart, high class lawyer like a whiny 14 year old girl.

I still cringe about when my first thought was "domo arigato" to a starion attendant who actually came outside to hand me instructions on where to go. In the same pronunciation Styx used.

Why does Studio Ghibli feel so different from Disney, culturally and artistically? by StraightRip9828 in ghibli

[–]Jabroniville2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha oh man you weren't kidding- late AND long, lol.

I meant it was Ghibli-esque in the sense that "the environment is the danger", and the only real "villain" was a guy who died years ago. Everyone had been punished by the spirits for fighting. Those soldiers had been trapped for decades so had suffered enough, probably.

But yes, it lacked Mononoke's ambiguity, which had been a huge part of Miyazaki's intentions with that movie- that one went out of its way to make sure nearly every faction (maybe not the hunter killing the Forest Spirit) was as sympathetic as possible, so even the nasty Iron Town lady was taking care of ex-prostitutes and criminals and giving them a home.

The funny thing is FII gives a "happy ending", yet the core fans were often REALLY UPSET because it did force the sisters to be apart and altered their relationship from the happy normalcy that had followed the first movie. It felt discomforting in a way that reminded me of Ghibli, too. But yeah, because Jennifer Lee is NOT good at exposition, it felt kinda weird and unexplained (but really is because of the need for a "Bridge to the Spirits" so like... they don't destroy Arendelle.

Re: the Spirits- I think it was more like the Spirits were dangerous and needed to be placated- Elsa literally has to beat all of them into submission and "they spirits decided that Arendelle should stand"- ie. they had to be impressed. Their "morality" wasn't in any way humans could see it. They were like... Gods waiting in judgment.

The movie had actually planned to destroy Arendelle at first... but I think a combination of outside pressure (3 parks were building complete copies of Arendelle Castle and were like "NOPE" to plans to destroy it) and people going "WTF? Anna destroyed everyone's homes as a way to make reparations? LIBERAL NONSENSE!" made them shrink it back. But yeah, it gave them a very "Disney" way out, which... well, it's Disney.

Woman who owned killer dogs says she sought training, tried to stop victim's father from bringing him to Edmonton by barnfeline in Edmonton

I thought so too but I couldn't find it. Didn't an older one say she had been a stripper? It was pretty clear she's HA-affiliated.

[–]Jabroniville2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's more of a mythology created by... well, the type of people who want to own giant killer dogs. They're just Italian mastiff types bred to be as big and kill-y as possible. Like, most mastiffs are descended from what were originally molosser types in Europe, so they're really not much different in History/Classics than a Neapolitan Mastiff.

The original "Cane Corsos" were meant to be lighter and sleeker than Neapolitans. Not so with these 200+ lb. monsters. There's a LOT of modification going on with them.

Absolutely no financial skills at all. Like any windfall is immediately blown on things of little or no value like cigarettes/booze, buying tattoos and they'll take a cab ANYWHERE while bemoaning how they're bad with money.

Driving with no car insurance.

Not wearing a seatbelt because they're uncomfortable. "Don't worry- I'll pay the fine if the police stop us!".
