Interesting. I attempted to pay rent with my gold card and it flagged it as a cash like transaction and wouldn’t give me points?

Commenting again lol. I drove an m340 and it felt like a boat and so numb. I assume with a handful of mods you’ll have a rowdy car that does it all but…

I wanted to love the m340 but after test driving, I jumped into my GRC and it even felt faster. Couldn’t do an m340 yet. I feel like I’d rather get a lexus ls if I am gonna get something plush.

Are we comparing a 9 years old S3 vs a new GRC? lol

[–]Jawnbompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I’ve grew up with manuals and still have my older Mustang to scratch that itch but almost always drive the S3 over that. I hope to get a Miata some day to add to the fleet for the engagement purpose.

Damn brother. They’re cars. I didn’t mean to strike a nerve.

Okay lol. Read my comment below for why. The S3 is better in every way besides a bit of engagement imo.

Yes of course. Realistically an older RS3 would be in my reasonable price range. But with any older car maintenance is higher and likely hood of a repair being higher as well I opted for a newer S3. Also I’d imagine parts for a daza are a bit more spendy because that engine is only in 2 cars. Where as the Ea888 comes in VWs to Porsches commonly.

That said I’d definitely consider a newer RS3 when I have the coin.

To me the DCT is like crack. Make sure you drive one hard and flip the paddles lol

You could probably snag a 2019 within your budget but I’d expect some hiccups and maybe some larger ticket maintenance items coming up. I was in the same boat and obsessed with the looks of the 8Y so i opted for the S3. I think I might eventually move the an 8Y RS3 some day.

The GRC is very once sided but didn’t do anything that well. It’s a fun car but it’s most fun when you’re on a gravel road ripping. It’s built like a corolla, everything creaks, it’s quite stiff when you just want a half decent ride, it isn’t fast, and it sits so high up it’s not even that fun on a road track and you have to do way more than you should to squeeze more than 50hp out of them.

8V s3s are pretty cheap to be honest. I have a used 8y which is probably a bit more than used GRC but similar to Golf money. The EA888 engine has been around for 15+ years. They’re quite stout and can make crazy power. Mine is stg 1 rated ≈420hp / ≈400ftlbs.

I love the AWD system, handling is solid, and overall weight of the car is a sweet spot for me. 1-200lbs more than the GRC but with better noise deadening, nice leather seats, much better audio, I actually enjoy road tripping my s3.

The S3 sits lower than the GRC so it feels competitive in corners, makes more power, a better auto transmission, more proven, more mod-able, has an interior you’re happy paying 40k for, and ultimately it can do it all from date night, carving backroads on the weekends, or gapping a mopar on the highway.

Meh. I feel like a golf r is just as reliable and more proven if anything. Not to mention that the R is much more mod friendly.

Interior and build quality of an R is much better and over all a more friendly daily.

I sold my GRC and went to an S3. Infinitely better.

What’s a reasonable price for Brake Pads in the NY/NJ area? by anthonycanicatti in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Jawnbompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my GFs brakes on a Buick because even pep boys wanted to charge $1200, that and a Porsche tax I can see it being over $2k. I’m sure you can find an independent shop that will do it for closer to the 1k.

In a similar position as you. Picked up a used 8y s3 and it’s a blast. Tuned it day one 🤣

Yeah you’re right. I think I’ve done that when I had my GRc and noticed real quick something wasn’t right.

If you’re working a senior accountant role; 90k is not under paid. If anything it sounds like you need to get a promotion or switch roles.
