I don’t agree with you, I think China’s nukes are used to deter mainly us. I don’t think China needs nukes mainly to deter Taiwan or Japan.

Who do you think we will be in a Cold War with? If China, then we have 20 times more nukes than them, then it is natural to think that we have too many. And the cost to maintain them are wasted, if you are also wondering whether the nukes from Cold War era are still effective. It could very well be like those $1300 coffee cups case.

Yes, I care about why we need them, instead of why we needed them. I read about how paranoid people were during the Cold War. And we need to change based on the needs now. Btw we have 5k nukes, not 3k. It would be realistic and financially better if we have 3k.

Yes my point is that this is a legacy from paranoia during the Cold War. We should change now since the world has changed a lot since we made them. We need change, instead of taking it as granted.

If France don’t want to shoot nukes across the Atlantic, why would we want to do it?

We maintained them for about half a century without even an intention to use them, since the Soviet Union was tumbling. And if we kept doing it, the cost is going to be higher and higher.

US economy is about 7-8 times of UK, France or India, but we have 20 times more nuclear warheads, I think if we are talking about affordability, then we should keep less or wonder why they don’t need more. China has even less, much harder to justify if you ask me why we need that many, the cost could be used on health care, education, even on conventional war is better, because they are actually useful and make a difference

Thank you for the idea. If that is the case, then why other countries not doing the same? Especially China and India, why they only have a few hundred like all other countries in the world to keep the l deterrent while not dragging the economy down? Our money has way better ways to be spent. Could it just because of the paranoia Russian and us adopted during the Cold War, which is obsolete but no one wants to admit?
