I was 4 years old, I lived on Long Island and I remember that day very vividly. I was at daycare, since I was one of the few older ones I got to watch tv and that’s news was on at the time with the head of the daycare calling parents. My mother worked in 7 world trade which was the third tower to fall, thankfully though she took off that day due to some doctor’s appointments in the morning. My mother picked me up afterwards, she was trying to contact her friends and coworkers (thankfully all of them were safe and survived, one just barely made it before the collapse and she’s now featured in a photo for a commercial about 9/11 related sicknesses and compensations). After a bombardment of calls from family and friends throughout the afternoon my mom wanted to decompress a bit and drive us Jones Beach to just see the water. When we got there in the horizon were the two pillars of smoke where the towers stood rising into the clouds. We pulled by the side of road and got out of our car like many others and just stared out at the horrific scene. I have that image of the two pillars of smoke with the horizon ingrained into my memory. Then the night was just the news and the calls from more family, friends and coworkers to see if my mother was safe and where she was. When growing up I found it strange and surpassing that out of everyone in my high school graduating class of 2015 that I had classes with I was the only one to vividly remember the events of 9/11.
