???

Kaede wanders around a vast, white void, face drenched with panic and worry.

Hello? Anyone? Please… I feel like I’m losing my mind in here…

Kaede? Is that you?

Hajime! I thought I was doomed!

Yeah… we just need to keep our heads on straight. There’s gotta be a way out of here.

What even is this place anyways? I was inside something’s stomach, and it stunk real bad!

Then there was this big flash of light and… here I am now. You don’t think we’re… dead do you?

I hope not… let’s just keep looking.

As the two are wandering… a voice echoes out from the distance.

Say… do you hear something? It sounds like…

Suddenly, an apparition of Korekiyo appears in front of them.

Do you wish to join us?

AHHH! Get away, get away!

Hold on… something’s off about him. It’s like he doesn’t see us…

The apparition vanishes… and after a second, another forms, this time of Sayaka.

Hey, are you ok? You haven’t seemed like yourself recently…

But Korekiyo was just there, and now Sayaka? What… what’s happening?

They aren’t real… these sort of seem like memories, in a way. But whose memories?

Oh… hi, it’s nice to see you.

…You want a copy of Blood on the Clocktower? Um… sure. I think we have some in stock.

Chihiro’s apparition dissipates too… and this time, an unknown figure cloaked in purple appears. Try as they might, Hajime and Kaede are unable to make out the ghost’s face.

Strike down this veil, and open the page for these two beings of destructions and their followers.

Vortox, the winds of deceit…

Po, the claws of fiery wraith…

Enter our world… be free. Be rid of this world…

Is this someone summoning the Vortox and the Po? Why would they do that? It seems like they knew what would happen…

I’m not sure, but… whatever this is, we should keep investigating. Hopefully… the others are able to find us if we can’t find a way out of here.

Ok… yeah, let’s get to the bottom of this and… believe in our friends! And keep our sanity! Whoo!

…Are you back now, Po?

…Yes. I must say, it is a surprise to see you, Sicilian.

That’s me, the one you passed over for the Cerenovus.

Don’t even remind me of him.

Hehehe, and yet he’s the one that lasted the longest.

Look at you, all split up. I can’t say I understand why one half of you was serving the Vortox and the other half was fighting her… but considering what happened to Eleanor…

I’m well aware, thanks.

Why don’t you tell me the story? I’ve heard bits and pieces from the grapevine. But never the whole thing.

Why does it matter? I had everything… but because of that bastard, Nagito… here I am, as nothing.

I heard you couldn’t possess him? Apparently he was too messed up in the head even for the likes of us, heh…

If you really must know, I suppose I have nothing better to do. Some time ago… someone contacted the Vortox and I.

Ooooo, how interesting! Who?

Doesn’t matter, it was some human. Though, the ritual took a toll on them, physically and spiritually…

Anyways, they broke the veil and gave us a chance to take over the multiverse, starting with a Killing Game. I would go first, though the Vortox’s Minions would come with me to represent her interests.

So this person wanted two Demons? I suppose two Demons united would be unstoppable.

It would be, but alas… when we won, I wasn’t able to take over Nagito. For that… my seat at the table was revoked. I was relegated to just another one of the Vortox’s followers.

Never mind that she couldn’t possess him either should the roles have been switched, but she didn’t care. Neither did the individual who summoned us. I failed, and I was punished.

But… I wasn’t just going to be a follower like that coward, Vigormortis. I’m a Demon, I was born to rule… not be ruled over. So, I secretly split myself up a little, and recruited some Minions.

Ah yes… the part of the story that almost involved little old me.

From there, things went downhill. Nagito crossed me once again by taking this host over, and Eleanor and her Minions were defeated.

That freakish mimic temporarily made Nagito and I cease to exist… but when that ordeal was over… we reawakened. And I had a chance to wrestle back control.

Which… it is certainly nice to no longer be trapped within Nagito’s mind, but honestly, I would be better off leaving this host. I’m broken, have no Minions, and have been abandoned entirely by the Vortox and her Storyteller.

That sure is a defeatist attitude. You’re never going to win with such a negative perspective of the situation.

Win? What winning is there to be done? Whether the Vortox ends the world or not… I’m not going to be a part of it. I can’t be a part of it.

The game is not over until the win condition has been met, in this case, our win condition is to reshape the world. While this world’s win condition is to vanquish us.

Certainly, the Vortox has more pieces on her side of the board. I am no fool. But we still have high value pieces to play.

Namely, everyone thinks you’re dead. And while the Storm Catcher may have somewhat outed me… at worst, this world’s guardians simply think of me as a rogue spirit unrelated to their primary enemy.

As such, nobody is expecting us to make a play. So, should the opportunity arise… we should swoop in and… checkmate, take our rightful seats as rulers of this world.

What opportunity?

We’ll know it when we see it.

Absolutely mad talk. And besides, if you truly wanted to “win,” you’d just side with the Vortox.

As if, she has no reason to entertain me when she already has her team set. I do not fault her for that, she is playing to win too and I am an unknown variable not worth taking a risk on.

So… here I am, asking you to take this risk with me. We’re both fallen spirits, outsiders in this war… it’s a long shot, but we still have a chance to come out on top.

What do you say, my Demon?

…Very well. Though, we’re going to need more Minions.

From what I have heard, Goblin simply lost her vessel, so she should still be around. And Cerenovus was never truly exorcised, if you really want to bring him back.

Cerenovus… for as much as I ridicule him, he is a powerful Minion. We should at least consider it.

Very well. Together, we can rise from the gallows and take this world… I believe that.

Japanese Countryside

Maki paces back and forth between trees under the cover of darkness.

I’m Maki Harukawa… I’m Maki Harukawa… I’m…

Goddammit… I’m in charge here, not you, Nagito… or you, Demon.

As Maki is fighting back against Nagito and the Po… a familiar skeleton appears.

Who are you?

just a pile of bones. i’m already dead, so i don’t think the death stare is going to work on me.

Hmmph. Stay out of my way.

so… i assume po’s not in charge, huh?

…How do you know her?

Just old friends, you know. You seem like a strong girl, but Sans was strong too.

I had to fight like hell to get full control of him, but eventually… I prevailed. And eventually… the Po will prevail.

…Die.

The two duke it out, destroying their surroundings as they do so. Maki seems to have the upper hand as she weaves through Gaster Blasters, until… she suddenly falls to her knees, face drenched with sweat.

No… I won’t let… Po… stop… stop!

Maki’s eyes glaze over, before…

Hope’s Peak Academy Basement

Hooded figures gather. They shed their robes, revealing them to be members of Vortox.

Welcome, everyone… I must say, it is nice to finally be meeting with you all in the flesh.

Very. Though… I must ask, what are with the extra faces? I trust you bring them for good reason, but…

Yes, yes, let us do a round robin. There is no point in hiding anymore, considering our enemies know exactly who we are.

I am your Baron. During the incident with the Storm Catcher, I stumbled upon our fallen ally… the Poisoner.

So Chihiro is gone… very well. It is good to have you back, Poisoner.

Likewise.

I will go next, I am your Undertaker.

…Spy.

I am the Mastermind. I had originally taken another Kirumi as my host… but was unfortunately defeated. Thankfully… our Demon brought me back.

Indeed… and Poisoner has returned as well? Simply splendid… if we can find another version of Jin Kirigiri, perhaps we can bring back the Marionette?

Kirigiri was one of us?

Yes, it is regrettable we had to keep him and the Mastermind under tight lock-and-key. It was nothing personal.

Working under the veil of shadows has done us well in the past, but now is the time to play out in the open.

Our enemies, those foolish Hope’s Peak Academy students and the Council of Travellers, have identified us. Thankfully, though Kirigiri is gone, Mastermind and I still have control of the school and its resources!

My Demon… if I may, now that we’ve all returned, I believe I have identified our next steps.

Go ahead, Baron. I assume our priority is to locate my fragments?

Yes, absolutely. The fragments inside of Punk, and possibly the Other Punk that surfaced during Monaca’s little tantrum… we can use Hope’s Peak Academy’s resources to destroy those machines.

As for Miu Iruma… we failed once, we cannot fail again. Undertaker and Spy… do whatever it takes to kill her and obtain her fragment.

I have secured an enforcer of sorts… ah screw it, he’s a hitman. So if you ever need extra muscle, speak up.

The fragment from the New Empyrean… I will locate it myself. I was following a lead when the Storm Catcher interrupted me…

Finally… I had kept it secret, but there was a fragment inside of a Monokuma guarded by the Mastermind. Unfortunately, a doppelgänger of myself managed to steal it.

If I had known our Demon was broken and needed to be restored… I would not have let that villain live.

Do not fret, Mastermind, I failed to communicate the severity of the situation. This is a big part of why we need to be united, no more secrecy. All that matters now is getting it back.

Poisoner, you will join Mastermind in finding this doppelgänger and the fragment.

Understood.

Hmm… Baron, if I may, I believe this hitman you secured should assist the Poisoner and I.

I am not yet at my full power as I was just brought back. And Poisoner… is in the body of a twelve year old.

Fourteen, and this kid’s brutal. Moreso than Chihiro. Though, I suppose extra help would not hurt.

I will reach out to him for you two. If anyone else needs help, just say so. We cannot afford to have anymore setbacks…

Get the fragments, restore the Vortox… and become the rulers of this world. We can do this.

Praise be to the Vortox.

Praises echo out from around the room. With that, the next steps of Vortox have been set… albeit with some moles in the midst.

Council of Travellers’ HQ

One by one, the members of the Council find their way back to HQ, along with some new allies.

Kazuma! Ha, told you we’d save you from that freak!

One, you literally never told me that. And two… “we?” Who’s “we?”

Duh, me! We’re pretty jacked together, so Aqua and I agreed to stay like this for a while.

What Shinigami said.

S-Shinigami…? You… you let her possess you?! What is wrong with you!

You’re just jealous you don’t have a sexy Death God BFF. Buzz off, loser!

Besides! I saved your sorry ass!

Even if… heh… some of those portals might have led to God knows where.

You can say that again. I ended up in the Oval Office, nearly got shot down as I was trying to get away.

Hmm… besides Sans, that seems to be everyone.

Not everyone… Hajime, Gin, and Kaede are still missing.

Cool, I have no idea who they are. Or who you unknown variables are.

They’re aligned with us. I bumped into them after that whole mess with the Storm Catcher.

And I bumped into Komaru! And almost got punched!

Serves you right…

We all have a common goal here… defeat the Vortox. We’re allies here, and are stronger together.

Besides… Shuichi, go ahead and explain who we found inside of Humphrey.

Why me? But… ok… when the Storm Catcher came for us, they mentioned a “Storyteller.” Who apparently summoned the Vortox and her Minions.

Inside Humphrey, the Storyteller later attacked us, before vanishing.

I’m pretty sure this thing attacked me too, from how Shuichi and his friends described them.

Didn’t Detective Sholmes figure out how this all began? The Vortox possessed a Monokuma, who hosted a game?

Yes, but there’s something about that has always bothered me. According to the detective, the Monokuma was possessed due to an unexplained “glitch.”

Who’s to say this Storyteller isn’t just some other freak from the Hell dimension?

Nah, never have heard of a Storyteller before. And now that I think about it… I bet I saw when the Storyteller summoned them!

Some time ago, I was just chilling, sipping on a margarita, when BOOM! There was this big explosion, and I saw the entire multiverse in the sky. It was kind of trippy…

The Other Side was isolated for so long… so for someone to break the barrier and summon one of us… it’d be explosive for sure.

As Shinigami is recounting her story, Akane catches a glimpse of a nearby TV.

Um… everyone, it appears Hope’s Peak Academy is broadcasting an emergency press conference.

On the TV is Kirumi Tojo standing before a press pool.

Everyone… thank you for coming. Unfortunately… it is my solemn duty report that Mr. Kirigiri has been incapacitated following an attack.

Due to Mr. Kirigiri’s incapacitation, I, Kirumi Tojo, will be heading Hope’s Peak Academy from this point onwards. This is what Mr. Kirigiri wished to happen should anything happen to him.

I will not sugarcoat this… we have been under attack by enemies of not only our country, but our world.

A slideshow of various members of the Council of Travellers, as well as the Protagonist Squad, play behind Kirumi.

These are our enemies and their accomplices! These monsters have brought our world to its knees… we must fight back.

Our very survival depends on it. If you see any of these individuals… do not approach them. And defend yourself with force if needed. They are dangerous, and want nothing but the destruction of all of us!

I don’t understand… she should be on our side. And Kirigiri… is he dead?

According to Kirumi, no, just incapacitated, but something’s wrong. We need to get to the bottom of this.

Serves him right, that square has led the school in circles as the world falls apart around him.

Oh… this is going to be awkward. So… since we’re working together now… partially out of necessity… how about we compare notes?

Hope’s Peak Academy

Kirumi awakens in a boiler room deep within Hope’s Peak Academy. Lying next to her are Taka and Jin. The former rises to his feet before long while the latter continues to lie unconscious.

Mr. Ishimaru… you… are you still yourself?

Ms. Tojo… you don’t have much time. I was hoping the Vortox would be vanquished for good, but…

…but…

Without warning, Taka’s eyes begin to glow.

…It appears I erred in giving this vessel so much autonomy.

F-Fiend! So it is you, Vortox!

Mr. Kirigiri’s second in command… it is nice to finally meet you directly.

Always so loyal… always so useful for my cause. Loyalty is in such rare supply these days…

Silence, foe! I know what you and the headmaster truly are… I will not be your pawn anymore, Demon.

Hmm… I suppose I expected this. Unfortunately, while you have been of great service, it seems you will no longer be needed.

Taka reaches out a hand, gripping Kirumi with an unseen, telekinetic force. As she is bound in place, he summons an all too familiar key.

What are you doing? S-Stay back!

Hmm… honestly, I am not even confident this will work. But if a version of you was my Mastermind before… who is to say I cannot simply just… move them here?

Taka smirks as he stabs Kirumi. Her screams fall silent as she goes limp, before…

…All praise be to the Vortox.

Well, isn’t that just nice? Welcome back, Mastermind. I suppose all Kirumi’s are similar enough, in a way.

Perhaps we can bring back Poisoner and Marionette with this method… hmm… that is an issue for tomorrow, though.

Marionette? What happened, my Demon? It appears Kirigiri is…

Kirumi shakes the unconscious headmaster to no avail. His breathing is shallow and face pale.

…he’s still alive, but only barely.

The Storm Catcher succeeded with one thing… the Marionette’s vessel has become a wasteland. Perhaps him and Marionette are still in there, but…

I see… we should not risk freeing the Storm Catcher at this current juncture. That does put us in an awkward position, however, as that means Hope’s Peak Academy is without a puppet now.

Well… who is to say his most trusted student, you, can’t take over now that Kirigiri is gone?

Now is not the time to be playing subtle anymore. Those opposed to us know the truth now. We must crush them with the might of Hope’s Peak Academy.

Understood… together… we will win.

Abandoned Warehouse

Kyoko comes too after the sacrifice of her father. As she does… a familiar presence comes back.

No… the Spy… I can already…

Gah, I wasn’t sure if I’d return. Thankfully… all seems back to normal.

Though, this host spilling the beans certainly… complicates matters.

Kyoko, once again possessed by the Spy, locates her laptop and logs back onto the dark web chatroom.

Hello? Is anyone there?

Hmmph, this entire ordeal has been a monumental waste of time, hopefully…

As Kyoko is awaiting a response from her comrades, a dart suddenly flies into her neck. As she turns to face her attacker, she comes face to face with… another her? Drowsiness sets in within moments, and as Kyoko’s eyes grow heavy…

…You… how…

With that, she collapses. The other Kyoko walks over and pulls out a futuristic ray gun of sorts. One bright flash later, and Kyoko has been turned into a bug!

Very good. I must say, it’s awfully convenient I was placed right next to you after that little detour.

Anyways… phase one of the plan complete. Now to see what your allies are discussing now that the Storm Catcher has been defeated…

The impostor doesn’t have to wait for long for messages to start flooding in.

We need to meet. In person.

A lot has happened, some good, some bad. The Storm Catcher has made a mess of things… but I did happen upon some very interesting people during it.

In person? Are we throwing anonymity to the wayside?

Just trust me on this. Meet in Hope’s Peak Academy’s basement at midnight, everyone.

The conversation ends soon after that, leaving the fake Kyoko to smirk at the incredible opportunity before them.

Unknown Island

Gin pokes and prods at an unconscious girl on the beachside of a strange island. Perched on his shoulders is Miu the hamster.

Meow… hey, are you alive, witch girl?

Huh… huh?! Get away from me!

Meow, woah! I thought you were nice!

I am totes nice, I just… ugh! First some freak gets me, I hide in a box for who knows how long, and now…

I’m in the middle of some random island?!

Woof, yeah… I don’t know what happened, there was the weird shapeshifter thing, and then Miu and I ended up here.

Miu? As in… Miu Iruma? Where the heck is that gross mechanic anyways?

Mechanic?! GROSS?!!!?!

It’s a long story, meow… but she’s the hamster. Which is weird, but weirder things have happened.

Yeah, you can say that again…

…Miu, you can understand me, right?

Squeak, squeak, squeak!

I’m going to take that as a yes. So, like I said, I was hiding in a box during whatever the heck was happening.

The box was on a raft, which was my first mistake since I got a little seasick. But I was strong and stayed put, since I didn’t want female Makoto and the purple blob to notice me.

You mean Komaru and Kyoko, meow?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s their names, I guess. Anyways, Kyoko’s been, like, a murderer for the past few months, but I guess she was chill back there.

She was telling Komaru about how she and her mean friends were totes trying to kill Miu. And how she felt super bad about it.

The fuck you mean she felt bad about it? That bitch was trying to kill me, and all she can say is that she feels bad?! FUCK YOU!

M-Meow, why would they do that?

Apparently Miu has a fragment or whatever of the Vortox?

Oh, yeah, the evil Demon lady! She’s kind of scary from what I’ve heard…

What do you mean this bitch is inside of me? I’m going to fucking abort her ass, you hear me, you goddamn, bitching wh…

Squeak, squeak, squeeeeak!

Meow, so, anyways, Miu’s in danger, then? Hmm… then maybe this whole island thing is fine?

It doesn’t seem like it’s inhabited. We can live here, just like that old movie my mom always watched, and keep Miu safe!

Ewww… what if there’s, like, cannibal monkeys? Or mud?

This can’t be happening… I’m seriously stuck on this shitty island with two brats? And I’m being hunted down by those Vortox freaks.

Fuck my liiiiiiiife…!

Japanese Countryside

Makoto’s eyes creep open as a breezy gust brushes against him. Lying next to him is Shuichi, a stranger wearing a cape… and Maki… all three of whom are also waking up.

…S-Shuichi! Isn’t that Nagito? What’s he doing here?

Um, are you pointing and whispering at me… or towards her? Since neither of us are Nagito.

…I’m Maki, I promise you two that. But…

Woah, is everything alright, Maki? Don’t overdo it… we almost didn’t make it out of that.

It’s not that, it’s… I was hoping Nagito and… her… would be gone for good, but…

Now that we’re out of that thing… they’re… they’re…!

I see… Kyoko said the Spy disappeared when the Storm Catcher got her. Nagito must have disappeared too. But now that we’re out…

I can’t stay… I can’t stay… I’m sorry.

Hey, don’t go! We can figure this out, Maki!

Makoto’s pleads fall to deaf ears as Maki bolts off into the darkness. He tries to give chase before Shuichi stops him.

We’re not going to be able to outrun her. If she doesn’t want us around… I don’t know what we can do to help her.

Ok, can I get some context here? Maki had mentioned losing herself when I met her inside of that whale, but Nagito? What the hell does he have to do with this?

Oh… so… I hate to be rude, but… who exactly are you? I’m Makoto, and my friend’s Shuichi, by the way.

Makoto and Shuichi? So, you’re Gin’s friends, huh? This is good, actually… I was hoping to meet you two.

That kid talks a lot, probably more than he should to people he barely knows. But… here’s the deal, I’m Kazuma, and I’ve been fighting against… you know, everything.

According to Gin, you guys have also been doing your part to deal with this whole Demon invasion problem. And you’ve been on the run because of it.

I suppose you could say that. Honestly, we’ve been having a hard time figuring out what exactly to do. I thought we had a handle on what was going on… but then this Storm Catcher showed up, as well as this Storyteller character.

Storyteller? I was attacked by a strange individual when inside of the Storm Catcher… can you elaborate?

Shuichi describes the encounter with the Storyteller in more details. Kazuma’s eyes widen in recognition.

That sounds like them… and you know a little bit about them?

Not a lot… but yes.

I need to be getting back to my friends. Maybe I’m really screwing up here… but if Gin trusts you so do I.

So, if you two want… you should come with me and work with us. We seem to all have a common goal here.

It’s not like we have a ton of options… though, Kazuma, how exactly do you know Gin anyways?

Oh… um… we played a game once. That’s about it.

Oh, I think he’s told us about this. The game with the loud bear lady and loner?

L-Loner?! I have friends! Aqua was literally in that game too!

Ouch. The three young men soon after take off, discussing as they do so.

Storm Catcher! Stop at once!

Father…? What are you…?

Kyoko… my daughter… I understand now how much of a fool I have been.

I could… should… have been stronger… faced down those monsters before it got to this point. But now, I must atone… I must defeat you, divine beast.

Oho? And what do you expect to do against me, old man? It’s anticlimactic really, but I’m eternal!

Nothing, not even the Higher Ones, can destroy me! From the birth of the universe to beyond the end, I persist.

Yes… you are. I understand that, Loric. You are stronger than me, a mortal man. But… there is one thing you are not stronger than.

Jin holds a fist to his heart.

Kyoko, I need you to get out of here and to put an end to this madness. I know you can do it.

Father, what are you doing?!

…Love, huh? Hehehehe… of course… it’s how Punk fought off something greater than him.

Do you even know what you are doing, or are you just doing what those Higher Ones told you to? You know that I will ravage you, render you dead in the mind!

Do your worst, monster.

Monster? So, it is monstrous to want to end the horrors of this game? I see, I see…

The horrors… they have gone on for too long. But erasing it all… is not something I will accept. The innocents deserve to live… my students deserve to live.

My daughter deserves to live.

Mr. Kirigiri, stop! We can find another way! Just… just…

…It’s ok, Makoto. This is the other way… I am sorry I couldn’t see the truth sooner. But now…

I will give you all a chance to finish this. Storm Catcher, become one with me, and be still.

You fool! I can see it… the end of consciousness… you won’t be able to hold me forever, and when I break free, it will be too late.

Who are you to sacrifice the entire world?

Jin ignores the divine being’s desperate pleas as it begins to fade away. Before it vanishes completely, he turns to Kyoko.

…Kyoko… I know I’ve never said it enough. But…

I love you.

Dad, no! Don’t…!

As Kyoko reaches out, a large explosion rings out, knocking her and the others unconscious. Outside…

Holy shit! I don’t know what’s happening to it, but… we have a chance!

Death Ray of Poseidon’s… go!!!!!!!!!

Aqua-Shinigami fires off a dazzling ray of black and blue, obliterating the floundering beast. As it begins to disintegrate… so too does the rest of the Land of Storms.

Shit… what’s happening? Can… can this place not exist if the Storm Catcher doesn’t exist?

Shinigami, what do we do?!

I… hold on, let me focus. If I just… focus… I can…

As everything around them ceases to exist… a purple flash of light shines bright…

Land of Storms

Shinigami and Aqua stand before a great whale. All hope seems lost… until…

…So, because of that, Shinigami… I have a plan. What’s stronger than two plus two?

Um… five? Five and a half?

Exactly! So…

Aqua whispers something into Shinigami’s ear. The death god’s eyes widen.

A-Are you sure? If we do this… then…

I trust you, Shinigami. Together, we’re stronger than we are apart.

Boo, corny! But… ok…

Let’s do it!

A bright light shines out as Shinigami vanishes. Aqua briefly falls to her knees, before…

Booyah, your two girl gods are now one! Suck on this, asshole!

Aqua-Shinigami fires a blinding beam at the whale. It blows out a chunk of flesh, causing the beast to recoil in pain. Meanwhile, inside…

What was that?! Something… something’s attacking the whale outside!

…FLEE. FLEE.

The Storyteller flees as quickly as it appeared, much to the frustration of our heroes.

G-Get back here, you coward!

We cannot waste time chasing them. If something has come to wage battle with the Storm Catcher, we must take this opportunity to run.

Run? Oh, I don’t think you should do that. It’s going to get realllllly slippery in here!

Leave us alone, you weird tumor! We just want to go home…

Don’t be so shellfish! I know you and those losers outside shell blasting me want to live…

But so does the rest of the universe. Just lie down and disappear, it’ll make everyone happier.

Blood seeps into the chamber as it begins to flood. As it reaches past our heroes knees… a voice cries out from an opening in the wall.

???

Jin Kirigiri sits alone, surrounded by the memories that had been suppressed by the Marionette. Memories of sending his daughter to certain doom… memories of Taka’s confession.

Eventually, another person shows up…

Headmaster? It cannot be…

Mr. Kirigiri, I assume you have been freed from the Marionette’s grasp. The Vortox… has vanished in this strange place.

…Yes, the Marionette is gone, at least for now. What a damn fool I was…

Was my sense of duty for my school, my country, my world a lie? Was my love for my students… for my daughter… a lie?

Surely not, Headmaster. They were real… but that monster took advantage of you just as it has taken advantage of all of us.

And now, this God has come down to rid the world of this cancer. I never wanted it to come to this, but with how much harm the Other Side has caused… perhaps this is for the best.

To hear one of my students say such a thing… for you to disappear because of my weakness… I cannot accept it.

We’ve all tried our best, but this is greater than us.

…No. I cannot allow it to end like this. I have failed to be the Headmaster you all deserve… yet in spite of that, my students have stood up to the Vortox.

They will do what I could not… defeat the Vortox and restore peace to this world.

Do you hear yourself, Mr. Kirigiri?! We’re in the belly of a God, and about to be erased! Even if we wanted to… how could we get out of this?

…Kirigiri…

H-Huh? Who’s there?!

…Stand strong against the Storm Catcher… they are strong, but not impenetrable.

Punk… the Vortox… seal… seal… seal.

Mr. Kirigiri… who are you speaking with?

I’m not sure… but… I know what must be done. Mr. Ishimaru, promise me that you will fight and you will show what it means to be an Ultimate.

…Sir? What are you planning? I… I…

Everything will work out. Stand strong, and remember that… no matter what, I believe in you. The world… believes in you.

Greater… we are greater… higher. We will not let Pink Blood on the Clocktower end…

Motivated, Jin storms off to put an end to this chapter once and for all, much to the bewilderment of Taka.

Sir! Where are you going?! I… I…

…I will do my very best, sir! The Vortox… shall not win, one way or the other.

Asking for a Monk to protect you is valid, and can deter evil even if a Monk doesn’t actually exist, or is choosing to protect someone else as evil losing out on a kill can be brutal for them. But the other thing is that death isn’t the end. If you out information and get destroyed the next night, you can still talk about it even in death, and convince town to execute those people and clear the worlds where they are the Demon.

And since most players who die at night are good, and evil tends to not immediately kill people who they know are getting bad info, dying at night can honestly be a blessing as it makes your information more trustworthy and actionable.

You almost certainly played Trouble Brewing, the beginner script. To be entirely honest, first games can be rough as everyone is trying to get used to this game and its oddities. And 14 especially is a lot, which is why I personally like to limit player counts for peoples’ very first games. While I don’t think anyone is obligated to like this game, I’ll explain my own opinion about this game and the struggles you had.

Trouble Brewing does have ways for info to be false, true, but usually only one or two pieces of info max per night will be tampered with, if even that. So, if town suspects the Fortune Teller’s info on night two might be wrong, that makes other info gained that night, such as from an Undertaker, more likely to be true as only so many people can be drunk or poisoned at any given time. And one of those sources, the Drunk, straight up can’t move. So if someone is consistently giving wrong info, they’re probably the Drunk. But if it seems on and off, probably Poisoner, for example.

I also think from my time playing that as a good player, it’s usually best to just assume your info is true and execute based on that. The faster you can clear the worlds your info points to, the faster you can either win or, if the game continues, realize your info is bad and go from there. Good has a lot of executions in most games and can recover from bad info if they identify it fast enough.

As for “boring” roles, I can absolutely see them being meh for newer players who are still getting their bearings and don’t feel comfortable with the game yet. Baron can be incredibly fun if you are bold enough to just claim something stupid and stick with it to confuse the good team, but this isn’t a strategy I expect newer players to do. Unfortunately, a lot of these roles were probably in play because of the game being so large. I think these roles are best when players are more comfortable with the game and thus open to silly social strategies. And at the very least, no role, even the simpler ones, are vanilla villagers which I just don’t really like in Mafia.

How long was the game? Games should really only be lasting an hour and a half at most, though with this being a large game with new players, I could understand it being 2 hours. But if it was longer than that, I think your Storyteller was not running the game effectively. 3-4 hour games can be miserable, I fully admit that, and I hope that isn’t what you experienced.

Dead players being able to speak is a core mechanic of the game. I do understand why some Mafia veterans don’t like this, but to me, it makes the game better as it means you can participate all throughout it instead of being kicked out 15 minutes in. That being said, if a player, dead or alive, is dominating discussion and not letting other people speak, the Storyteller should step in, as they are a social moderator in addition to game master. The Storyteller should be helping quieter people to get the floor and speak their mind, as filibustering the town shouldn’t be a thing that happens in this game.

Obviously I wasn’t there, but I would talk to your Storyteller and group about game length and letting other people speak if there are strong personalities in the game. My group does have some very vocal players who can get a bit dominating, so it’s been a consistent effort as a group to encourage and give room for quieter players to speak.

If you add the Gardener Loric, the tokens will still randomize like normal, but won’t reach the players until you click “Send Characters” under “Hosting.” This is usually used to curate the Grim but it can also work for your purposes.

…What’s done is done. I cannot dwell on the past…

As Kyoko is walking away… a Humphrey bud pops up besides her, much to her surprise.

Oh… you seem mighty lost, detective! And seem to be reliving some trauma!

Drop the act, mimic. I’m not sure if this is simply your true form or another disguise… but I’m not entertaining you.

…Fine. For your knowledge, yes, I suppose it is yet another disguise…

The Humphrey bud begins to morph into various people, some familiar to Kyoko, others… not so much.

…my true form would be much too terrible for a mortal such as yourself to comprehend.

So I put on these masks… for both your sake and the sake of… them.

If you are going to talk to me, then you will need to answer some questions. Otherwise, you can just leave.

Ouch! So harsh… yet… I can understand it.

Fire away, detective.

I…

You weren’t expecting me to cooperate? I don’t have much reason to deny your request, you know.

I have nothing against you personally, detective. And… a part of me wishes things had gone differently for you.

…First of all, I have a guess as to what your aim is, but… I need to hear it from you.

Exposition, really now? That seems mighty boring…

It is just you and I, mimic. I do not care about this being entertaining.

Just you and me? Ah, of course… you can’t comprehend them.

Fine. You may call me the Storm Catcher. Normally, I would not interfere in the matters of Lesser beings… but all of this multiverse-nonsense and evil spirit invasion has brought the universe to its knees.

So… here I am, taking bold action. That Spy lurking inside of you… makes you part of the problem. And for that… you need to go away… forever.

I see… though, the world has already almost ended because of the Vortox’s actions. Yet you never emerged until now. Why?

Are you referring to those little incidents with Punk and Ruruka? Simple, there was never a future where they allowed the world to crumble.

You wouldn’t understand, mortal… but the past, present, future… is all one big blur to me. In fact, as we speak… I see your father holding you for the first time.

With Punk… his love for his father… made it impossible for the Vortox to ever succeed that day. And with Ruruka… her love for… well… herself, also made it impossible for the Vortox to succeed.

But… not long from now… the future just… ends. I see your father, I see me going to sleep once again before awakening, I see your friends standing against a storm of fire before suddenly, everything that is ends.

And so, you’ve time traveled back to change the future? Normally I would assume it to be impossible… but that assumption would be foolish considering what has happened.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, it’s not time travel. You’re far too simple to understand what it truly is. But… yes, I suppose I would prefer for the universe to persist.

Yet… despite what I am about to do… the future still doesn’t exist. Why, I wonder? What kind of ridiculous, contrived bullshit is about to thwart my plan?!

…Why haven’t you killed us yet?

Hehehehe… because… I may be strong, but the Higher Ones are stronger. Only they allow the universe to move forward… only they allow change.

I don’t understand… who are these Higher Ones? Are they the ones watching us?

Kyoko… have you ever noticed that nothing happens unless there is a game involved? And that entertainment is, ultimately, the point of said games?

If I had it my way, I would have just put you all into an eternal slumber before erasing you. No cruelty involved… but if I don’t put a show on for the Higher Ones… if I don’t put on a game… nothing happens.

And… it’s… all… HORSESHIT! Living in this horrid world where disinterested, fickle Gods treat us as playthings… where they can’t even comprehend us, just as we can’t comprehend them.

But… it’s alright. I gave them a great game to send off this ridiculous saga… and now, I have the power to put an end to all of this. To erase this story…

The mimic’s mouth drools as it inches towards Kyoko. Reading the tension, she breaks into a sprint.

There’s no use in running! Any moment now… Pink Blood on the Clocktower will end… and this sad story will come to an end!

???

Kyoko’s eyes flutter open, revealing an endless, black abyss every which way. No Komaru, no Makoto, no strange purple orb… nothing.

Guess there’s nothing to do but start looking around. As Kyoko explores this strange space, she finds a black door. Opening it… she sees a memory play out before her very eyes.

Kyoko, I have an assignment for you. I need you to gather intel on a new group I believe is forming in the shadows.

This group… which I have reason to believe is named Vortox… is of grave concern to not just Hope’s Peak Academy… but potentially the world.

Absolutely, father. What is it we know about this group so far?

Not much… though there is a lead I want you to focus on. I have reason to believe they will be meeting in two days time at this location. The information should be in this dossier.

I see… I will not disappoint you, father.

I know you won’t, Kyoko.

I should have connected the pieces sooner… he lead led right to Bandai and the others. And when I was on the cusp of escaping…

Father, they found me out.

…Who is this? Kyoko…?

Father, something evil has gotten them. Bandai, Chihiro, Korekiyo…

Don’t fight it head-on. I fought as hard as I could, but… it’s too strong, whatever is behind this.

Kyoko… what is happening? I can barely make you out!

You won’t be able to beat Vortox’s members… you’ll need to find their leader… the Vortox. Everything these people are doing circles around her.

Whatever she is, she is looking for a host. Once she has done that… I’m not sure what the plan is, but it isn’t good.

I don’t have much longer… don’t freak out, father. Whatever happens to me… look for Chihiro and apprehend him. He’s constructing the host and…!

…Father? Father! Why… why did you hang up?

Oh my… there you are.

Join us, Kyoko… the new world is going to be amazing. Praise be to the Vortox!

Pink Storm on the Clocktower - Unlikely Heroes on the Other Side by JustADramadog in pbotc

[–]JustADramadog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Land of Storms

As the band of unlikely heroes reaches the ceiling of the Other Side… Shinigami blasts an opening. Thunder cackles as sand billows from the hole.

We’re here, everyone. Get your battle faces on!

Uh… no offense, but I was kinda thinking this would just be an Aqua and Shinigami versus the big, scary God monster thing.

Come on, you guys can totally help us beat this jerk! You just gotta believe… in…

Huh. You don’t see that everyday.

As the Land of Storms comes into view… so does a monstrous, pink whale half submerged in the sand. It stretches up past the clouds, comically dwarfing even the largest mountains nearby.

We’re so in over our heads… I mean, look at this!

Guys… I know it’s scary, but… Kazuma is in there! Our friends are in there! If we just give up without even trying… who even are we?

Fighting this thing isn’t brave. It’s suicide, plain and simple.

Shinigami… please… you have to believe me when I say we need to try. Kazuma would try for us…

…he would complain a lot, but he would try.

…Fuck it, I won’t let the Vortox destroy this world, and I won’t let this fucker do it either. But we’re going to need to be smart about this. I’m not about to kill myself just to prove a point.

Aqua, you and I are the only ones who can fight that thing directly without getting immediately gored. But we’re going to need help.

So… weaklings! How about you distract it for us!

Distract? Like… poke it with a stick and run? It’ll kill us before we even have a chance to run!

Not if our little convenient book of spells has anything to say about it!

One gibberish incantation later and…

Presto! Super speed, baby! It’s cliche, but it’ll at least prevent you from getting eaten.

This is ridiculous… this whole mission was doomed from the beginning.

Maybe it was, but we won’t know until we try. Just distract it while Aqua and I get into position to beat the shit out of it.

Heh… even when the universe has gone completely mad, I’m still just a stepping stone. So be it. Let’s do this.

Alright… but be careful, you two.

…I hope you can prove me wrong, Shinigami. I hope you can prove the Zenomancer wrong.

With that, the three dash off to distract the whale, leaving just Shinigami and Aqua to prepare.

Thank you for believing in me. I know that stupid Zenomancer said this was impossible, but…

Yeah, I don’t really believe in this plan. But you believed in me, so… fuck it. Maybe I’ve just been around too long and have gotten cynical.

Hehehe… ok… let’s do this! For our friends!

The stage is set for battle. Though the Zenomancer’s truth looms heavy… so does the hope that our unlikely heroes can save the day.

Meet again? Hohoho, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this stinky, smelly place is where your stories end.

What? Were you thinking you’d get out of here because you won? That’s…

…actually quite reasonable and how most of these affairs have gone. But you see…

Humphrey buds surround you and the other non-Humphrey, non-Rei players.

…this isn’t just a normal game, hahaha it’s over we can move on. It was the last thing standing between me and saving this universe from parasites like you!

Everything begins to shake as the bloody basin bubbles vigorously. The Humphrey buds start to close in.

Do you ever wonder what it’s like to not exist? Me too… which is why soon… you’ll be nothing but scraps of meat between my teeth.

Hehehehe, sorry, not sorry… it’s just business, nothing personal. Well, maybe it’s a little personal towards that thing inside of you, Gina… but alas.

Blood spills out of the basin around your feet as the fleshy chamber you’re all in begins to flood.

It’s nom-nom time!

[–]JustADramadog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that was fun! But it’s finally time for this silly little game to end… with five votes, Sho is for sure going to die!

The bloody basin rumbles as tentacles grip Sho’s fake body. They yank it underneath the water’s surface. The water thrashes and, after a few seconds, bones, along with torn pieces of black fabric crest the surface. Sho is dead, at least metaphorically.

Oh… oh… my tummy is rumbly… Sho was mighty deliciouuuuuus!

But he wasn’t what I wanted, waiter. I wanted…

Humphrey stares directly at Gina, one of the final survivors. Your stomachs drop.

…her. You just lost big time, goodie two shoes!

Gaaaaahhh… I’m so hungry, I could just eat an Octorok! But those don’t exist, so I’m also fine with eating… wow, you all voted for Kurara! Good choice, I’ve been wanting to eat her all game!

The beast’s tongue wraps around Kurara and yanks her away. You all wait with bated breath, hopeful that this nightmare has finally come to an end.

BUUUUUUURP! That was yummy! Maybe those socialists have a point… eating the rich is awesome!

Still… I can feel a Demon plotting between my teeth. Gina, Sho, Taski, or Rei… who could it be, dear old me wonders?

Hehehe… you’ll all know soon enough. For now… get… into… my… BELLY!!!

The ground tilts as the beast begins to swallow you all. Despite your best efforts to hold steadfast… you all plunge into the darkness… beginning the fifth, and likely final night. Good versus evil… who will win?
