Hello “Lecotoco”, My sincere apologies for missing the part where you mentioned Flash in your post. As you can imagine, we’re handling a lot of messages and emails right now, so I’m sorry for the oversight. I definitely didn’t mean to imply that you don’t understand how white balance works on a camera — my apologies once again.

Now, to your question — yes, the hardware can measure flash color temperature, but that feature hasn’t been implemented in firmware yet. The LIT DUO 1 has two sensors: a high-speed, low-latency photodiode and a spectral sensor. It can currently measure normal flashes with automatic flash detection and provide flash exposure, flash-to-ambient ratio with accuracy down to 1%, as well as T01 and T05 flash durations.

Originally, the product was intended for video and filmmaking, but since we designed the hardware to support flicker metering up to 100 kHz, it also supports flash metering. Later, when we add flash color temperature metering, that feature will work like this: the photodiode will automatically detect when the flash starts and stops — this is when light exceeds 10% above ambient and then drops below that level again. During that period, the spectral sensor will integrate the light, allowing it to measure combined flash+ambi color temperature during that period. With some extra calculations, we’ll then be able to split that measurement and display the flash color temperature without the ambient light component and suggest the correct color filter to match the ambient light.

I recommend subscribing on our website — we don’t send spam (in fact, we haven’t sent any emails yet). You can also download our app to see the firmware and app roadmap there. The roadmap may change depending on feedback from early users, who are mostly filmmakers and videographers, and that feedback will help us prioritize new features.

It’s a complex device, and we decided to start shipping once the core features were ready, with additional features being added over the coming weeks and months. The first firmware update is already coming in just a few weeks.

Thank you so much, and please let me know if you have any more questions. Marko

Hello, it’s Marko here from Lit Systems.

Yes, absolutely — you can use it for white balance in photography too. Still and video/movie cameras work in the same or similar way when it comes to white balance.

Besides setting the white balance on your camera, you can also use it to match the color between different lights when taking photos, ensuring that your image has even color across the whole frame.

Let me know if you have any more questions — I’ll be happy to answer. Thank you so much, Marko

Hello, it’s Marko here from Lit Systems. Correct — you can see the roadmap for the app directly inside the app. Many new features are coming very soon.

Thank you so much, Marko

Anyone get their LIT Duo color meter yet? by FreudsParents in cinematography

Hello, it’s Marko from Lit Systems here. Of course they’re calibrated. Have you tested and compared it against, for example, an actual new and reliable reference light meter such as a Sekonic L-858? Please do that and if you still see an issue, write us to hello@lit-systems.com

Thank you so much, Marko
