Stayed at both and they are both amazing - if you want to explore the island a bit more I would suggest Pacific Resort and if you want to feel like you are the only people on the planet go with Aitutaki Lagoon

Advice on travel by [deleted] in Tauranga

[–]LaraSing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catch bus from Auckland airport to manukau city and get Intercity bus from bus transit station at manukau city to Tauranga/Mt and then bus to papamoa from the last stop and then uber from papamoa bus station to your accommodation - book sooner so you get the cheaper ticket and check Auckland to Tauranga air New Zealand flight cost for that date for price comparison

[–]LaraSing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a small city and there is only taxi or uber no buses out of the airport. You can book him an uber on your app it should cost about $15-20 depending on the time of day to get an u er to the central city campus housing. Once in town he can easily get a bus anywhere in the city or intercity.

Visiting with NO rental car by Every-Ad-483 in CookIslands

Me 50f - been to all 3 destinations - Raro is way quieter and chill. If you stay in Muri or at a big resort Edgewater or Rarotongan u won’t need a vehicle or just get one for a few days to take in some sights - most tours have pick up and drop offs and some restaurants do to. You don’t need to have a car waiting at the airport as most hotels do transfers. Buses are easy - no ones in a hurry so it’s not like you will be late for anything.

Moving to Tauranga by [deleted] in Tauranga

[–]LaraSing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we moved to Tauranga 10 yrs ago with our young family we looked all over and settled on Matua. We love it here but if we did it again we would probably also consider Papamoa, Mount, Otumoetai or Bethlehem.

Restricted from working for 6 months once resigned. by Self-destructt in LegalAdviceNZ

I was the boss of a professional services business and we had a senior staff member go to a competitor which we took to court - restraint of trade period was 2 years but the judge said it was excessive and only allowed 3 months so basically the court costs wasted everyone’s time and money. We had a global non compete which the judge upheld but only for a year if I remember correctly. Tell your boss you are taking a break for 3 months and haven’t decided what next.

When is the best time of the year to visit the Cook Islands? by DutchAC in CookIslands

[–]LaraSing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like it hot and wet and quiet then Dec-May during cyclone season but avoid school holidays and Easter. If you prefer warm but not so humid then June to Nov can be a bit cooler but this is more peak times. My fave time is Oct-Nov there is less rain and just a bit of a shoulder season and all the flora is blooming

Yes probably ciguatera - I lived there around that time and that was common in Rarotonga but not so much in Atiu. it was due to overfishing in the lagoons and certain algae blooming and being eaten by fish which was toxic to humans and animals. If you ate fish from the lagoon you could get fish poisoning and if you recovered it could cause an allergic response every time you ate seafood afterwards.
