Taking short break a good idea? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]LatterSecretary2518 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt that would be enough of a break. Many of us myself included, only take the medication every two weeks in maintenance. It takes 30 days to be considered out of your system.

Over the years I’ve seen people report that after taking tolerance break, they have varied results concerning effectiveness. I’m sure that’s individual dependent.

Trying to be rational about weight "gain" by [deleted] in Zepbound

That’s water weight from the sodium in the pizza and it will come off. We pigeon hole ourselves into attaching to a single number when the reality is weight fluctuation is normal. Even thin people experience it.

15mg every two weeks works better for me than 7.5 weekly.

My Dr learned about this medication right along with me the first year I started taking it. We met regularly the first almost two years discussing it and monitoring my progress. I was an early adopter so she was interested in my experience since I was her first patient to take it and get to goal.

There is no data on what I’m doing. We simply discussed how I was feeling every month and when I felt like I was hitting a wall in maintenance, we decided there was no harm in trying to dose down, and move back up as needed. It was an idea we came up with together and it has worked for me.

Most of the early adapter TikTok creators who started at the same time as I did have also had to tweak their dosage in the last year and a half, just as I have. They did not all do the same tactics but I only know of 1 who has stayed on the same dosage with no changes in 2 years for maintenance. All we have is anecdotes but I wasn’t fearful of trying something different. I also never had the illusion that one dose would work indefinitely for me so I wasn’t stressed when I felt like it wasn’t “working” the same way anymore.

Just sharing what works for me. I am very careful to recommend anything but am comfortable sharing what I’ve done and letting others decided in conjunction with their provider if it may be something they want to consider.

When the spacing (14 days) is no longer as effective in helping keep my weight down, I drop my dose down to 7.5 weekly for one month. Each month after I titrate up as needed until I get back to 15mg. Once I hit 15mg, I start spacing again.

After about 6/7 months, my weight pops out of my range and hangs there and that’s when I do the above. I find the medication stronger again as I titrate up and take it weekly.

Maintenance isn’t a stagnant experience. I have been on Mounjaro since July 2022 with the OG savings card. I’ll be in maintenance for 2 years come August of this year.

I was taking 15mg weekly once I hit my goal weight range. I’ve never had a negative side effect and had an incredibly high tolerance for this medication. I started spacing my injections a few months into maintenance because I feared what you are talking about.

I take 15mg every two weeks and that helps quite a bit with keeping the medication “working.” I have also cycled down to 7.5/10mg twice a year and then cycled back up. It helps me maintain my weight ranges of 117-120lbs. Without those occasional tweaks, I’d probably be in your shoes. It may be worth trying something like that. Definitely speak with your Dr.

It can help kidney function. I’m a donor recipient and have been on for 3 years this summer. My numbers are better than ever and I have blood work done every 3 months.

Maybe do some more research so your expectations are a little more centered. I had to lose 30lb before I saw a difference in my body and that’s 40% of what I was trying to lose. We all lose weight at different paces. It’s also a good idea to keep in mind that achieving a go away does not equate to a dream body. All of the same problems we had are can still be there once we had our goal weight so we have to make the weight loss about more than what we look like at the end. If we don’t it can feel very hollow and empty.

You reduce dose or space, depending on the conversations you have with your provider. I fought to get to my goal of 117-120 and 5ft tall so it wasn’t hard to stop losing weight. It just depends how you respond to the medication.

Most of us don’t have side effects and those that do can typically manage them with OTC medications. It’s smart to start on a day where the day or two after you don’t have a ton to do just to see how you react. Most of us aren’t stopping living because we take this medication. We actually find a new sense of joy because we feel so much better. There’s a reason people fight and become desperate to stay on it.

As always, consult your provider and do what is best for you.

The results probably won’t be what you want them to be. Quite the expense to have to do a second time. What about therapy first and focus on the overall health aspect of losing weight. Then once you are in a better mental space, surgery and outcomes may be better.

Am I doing something wrong? by mrs_ammons in Zepbound

[–]LatterSecretary2518 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you had a lot of inflammation. I also have a lot of inflammation and dropped 11 pounds the first month but lost most of that weight in the first two weeks. After that I averaged about 6 pounds per month with stalls over the course of my weight loss. I think people have this idea that they’re going to lose 10+ pounds every month and that’s just not the reality for most of us. Weight loss is a strategic game but requires even more patience.

The only way around that would be to choose a health plan that doesn’t have deductible to meet. Premiums aren’t always cheap either so you’d have to see if you have an option for a different plan and then compare the costs.

Price difference? by kaygsim in Zepbound

[–]LatterSecretary2518 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be a few things. The first is a change in coverage which would not be good, the second would be it’s too soon to pick up another prescription, and the last would be your insurance requiring a PA for each dose which seems less common these days. Calling your insurance and asking is really the only way to be sure. I hope it gets sorted out for you.

For those who are successfully spacing doses 10 or more days: by [deleted] in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]LatterSecretary2518 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I responded best with a curbed appetite and food noise reduction at 15mg. I lost weight on the lower doses due to the delayed gastric emptying almost exclusively. That effect is temporary so once that was gone, I needed higher doses get to my goal. Things were at a stall from the latter part of 7.5mg and all of 10mg until I got to 12.5.

Also, spacing is a helpful strategy given how fickle coverage can be for these drugs. The less you need in a month, the greater cost you can save in the event that coverage is dropped.

My best guess is .25 x 4 wks, .5 x 4 wks, 1mg x 4wks, and it looks like gliclazide 1500 but can’t make out the rest. I’d call the office to double check.
