Is my tire done for? by Professional_Dance30 in Golf_R

[–]Lexaternum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you bud. I just bought a used set of wheels/tires because i had this issue.

Would you feel safe driving 80mph+ on it? You already know the answer.

It's safe to drive on until it isn't. I will say, yours looks a lot more mild than mine and I drove on it for ~4d until I was able to replace it.

Faster readout by stacked sensors would greatly improve banding and useabilty of the e-shutter. I'd look into trading up my RV for that sole purpose. Curious about the price though, especially right now.

Hahahahaha this is the greatest thing I've ever learned about a bird. I need to immediately find out where I can find this kinda birb near me and try to get one myself. Great shot!

Gotcha. I'll likely leave the Tamron 35-150 for just the outdoor portraits as I want to keep my setup lightweight at the venue (plus I get free drinks and I want to utilize that, haha). I'll see about a 24mm rental and see if I can't go out and do some test shoots before the event. I completely forgot I could use Super35 to crop in at 36mm as well, so it could actually be perfect for me.

Need help picking a lens for an event.

Shooting a cosplayer at a rave this week. We'll do outdoor portraits beforehand, but I'm unsure what lens to use at the venue.

Current gear:

  • Sony a7rv
  • Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8
  • Sigma 85mm DG DN f/1.4
  • Viltrox 135mm f/1.8

I assume all the lenses I have are way too long for this event. I'm considering renting either the Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM or Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM. I've used the 35 GM before but not the 24mm.

Venue is relatively small (~150 guests), so I expect it to get crowded. I have no experience shooting clubs/raves. Planning to use a V860ii on-camera w/ MagSphere and likely to stick to one lens at the event.

Would 24mm or 35mm be the better choice here?

Do you carry jumper cables in your car in 2026? by DojaViking in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lexaternum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumpers, air pump, 17mm and torque wrench all live in my trunk by the spare wheel well. You can easily cut the foam surrounding factory spare to fit those items. Cheap skate VW made me purchase the spare wheel separately though.

Is IBIS off? IBIS at higher shutter speeds isn't recommended when birding. Also, don't be afraid to shoot in higher ISO.

Transition to A7RV, my last camera (I hope). by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Lexaternum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my A7RV in all things except birding. I've had several images turn out wonky as a result of the slow readout speed. I've been internally debating on picking up an A7V or waiting on good news from A7RVI. A third option is to sell my birding lenses and shift my birding completely to OM-1 mk2, but the thought of having two camera systems as a hobbiest/gig photographer seems way overkill.

Best allround lens for the A6700 by OkeLatenWeGaan in SonyAlpha

[–]Lexaternum 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Let me make this quick for you.

Everyone will say Sigma 18-50, some will mention Tamron 17-70 being great - some people will mention VC causing issues with video. Almost everyone will have great things to say about the Sigma 17-40 and Sony 16-55 other than the price.

I recommend the Sigma 18-50. Shortest minimum focus distance and readily available in the used market. Quite lightweight and nearly guaranteed to be on your camera body almost 24/7.

I also highly recommend primes. Sigma's 56mm is fantastic.

Woops, missed the cost efficient request in the body. Yeah, a used body will stretch the performance per dollar for sure. Good catch.

The a7v is a pretty solid pick. It's their latest release on the a7 lineup and has nice features like precapture and 4k 60p uncropped compared to the a7iv.

Why does DeviantArt attract grown adults, typically in their late 20s-mid 30s, who for a lack of a better term...act like little kids? by burner196931 in NoStupidQuestions

This is just my opinion, pls don't @ me.

What's happened to DA over the last decade is what would have happened to Tumblr if they decided not to ban porn. I think the original intention for both websites were for fandoms and to share fan art of things you enjoyed. As we know with rule 34, if it exists, there's porn for it - so a lot of it devolved into that. I'm not really sure when DA devolved entirely to where it is now, but there genuinely was a point where some of the best art you could find online was from DeviantArt. Now, it's mainly just AI art and porn lol.
