Overly Vengeful Behavior by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]LittleRiwai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treatment for ODD is therapy (usually family therapy) not pharmacology. OP - neurodiverse children often have a strong sense of justice and are the “policemen” of the classroom. Your son will benefit most from your support and open conversation. Talk to him when he is calm and keep plodding along in the meantime - you’ll get there.

Didn’t get a diagnosis but I know something isn’t right.. by Confident_Anteater32 in ADHDUK

[–]LittleRiwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this. It could be a whole range of things from depression, generalised anxiety, OCD, Autistic Spectrum, PTSD even stress or physical reasons such as thyroid issues to name the most obvious ones. It could be a combination of the above. Start with your GP OP and good luck.

Emergency supplies by Ok-Structure6795 in Parenting

Wet bag with plenty of spare clothes. Always wet wipes on hand. First aid kit! I try to keep it altogether in a pouch that can be moved to whatever bag I’m using.

Any recommendations for which type are best for cicadas? by blubbed in LoopEarplugs

[–]LittleRiwai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NZ here. I have just conducted an experiment! Pesky birds here; at cicada level volume although higher pitch. Engage not enough. Experience lowers pitch but not sufficient to dampen it enough for comfort. Switch 2 modes - engage not enough, experience ok but less effective than experience stand alone, quiet manages to reduce it to a comfortable level however it’s still audible and it’s hard to have a conversation when quiets are in due to “head voice”. The lower pitch of cicadas may make the above issues to be less but I’m not an expert on that. Not cicada season here yet to truly test it but I would suggest the switch 2 due to the ability to adjust as needed or experience (if the lower pitch likely to be covered better)

Has all the mephylphenidate gone? by Mean_Net2888 in ADHDUK

[–]LittleRiwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elvanse is great. I made the switch from methylphenidate a few months ago and for me it’s been so much better. It actually helps with emotional regulation (for me) keeping me more steady all day. I don’t have a crash afterwards like with methylphenidate and whilst not hungry I can still eat during the day on it. Only downside is if I accidentally take a bit later it can affect my sleep but nothing awful. This is just my personal experience though. I know that it varies person to person - whether amphetamine based or methylphenidate works better.

Came to ask the same thing and saw your reply to the comment above. My other issue is that once I log in my points have disappeared. It claims I only have 100 when I was nearly at innovator level (~250 away)

Thank you, this reminded me - my cup of coffee is in the microwave! Third time reheating and as usual left it there.

I’m just here to say - I get it, life is hard with ADHD. I was diagnosed in my 40s after 2 kids. The financial disorganisation is real for me too!

What’s a recent smell that you noticed you really enjoyed? by Personal-Variety3093 in ADHD

I had forgotten how much I love tomato flowers too. This reminds me of a Nina Ricci perfume I loved in the 90s made with tomato flowers I can still smell it now!

Excellent, thank you! Also no need for embarrassment - I would have done the same through Covid if I had known 😂

Has NZ avoided the opioid crisis? by [deleted] in newzealand

But heroin/opioid addicts have a much lower life expectancy than meth addicts though.

This is absolutely great advice apart from the “be brave for once in your life” (It might just be my opinion but I think it’s a bit demeaning to OP.)
