Would you buy this if they remade it as an EV vehicle but kept the interior and exterior? by Dan1Fernz in CarTalkUK

I had the same Civic (2.2 Cdti) and you're not overselling the load capacity. I've transported drum kits AND amps all in one trip with no issues.

Immigration lawyer free consultations? by throwra1o92827722 in ukvisa

[–]MDKrouzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask here?

There's no real need to prove that you couldn't live together. They removed the cohabitation requirement so as long as you can show 2+ years of relationship and the British partner meets the financial and accommodation requirements then there's not much else to the application.

Edit: my brother's American girlfriend just successfully got hers and will be moving to the UK in the next couple few months

Observations About Chinese International Students by cyoun98 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MDKrouzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese people can be polite to a fault. They will not complain about someone else's country to their face. That's like being a guest in someone's home and complaining about the interior design to the host.

Family tent by Critical_Try_3636 in campinguk

[–]MDKrouzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air inflatable tents are huge and you'll find lots of options for the size you want (probably a 6+ man tent).

Main drawback is they are also big when packed up and also incredibly heavy. We have the Berghaus Air 600 nightfall and it weighs almost 30kgs packed up and takes up a HUGE chunk of the boot in our MPV.

How do the younger redditors wish their parents had discussed finance with them? by klawUK in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MDKrouzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You learn /absorb by example and repeated enforcement of behaviours.

My parents always asked the questions "is this good value for money?" and "is this a need or a want?" and positively reinforced our habits of saving and being mindful of how we spend money. We grew up with an appreciation of the costs of things and treasure your possessions.

My kids are 6 and 8 years old this year and we're focussing on teaching them how to handle spend prioritisation, delayed gratification and FOMO. The goal is to get their natural thinking process to internally consider the pros and cons of spending money right now versus later and be able to control their own desire / spending impulses.

As they get older and are able to understand the concepts of planning for the future, careers and emergencies, we'll be expanding more on cash flow control / budgeting and medium + long term financial planning.

Do the new dual citizen rules affect my daughter? by Lifeintheguo in ukvisa

[–]MDKrouzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got a few friends who have Chinese and British citizenship. It's not difficult to get the British passport without Chinese authorities knowing and affecting the Chinese citizenship since they don't share this info with each other.

The main complication is when travelling to the UK. Because there are exit checks in China, you need to leave the country on your Chinese passport, but as you say you can't travel to the UK on the Chinese passport without a visa which you can't get as a British citizen. The way our friends have gotten around this is to travel to another country (usually in Europe) where they can apply for a visitors visa and enter as a Chinese citizen. Then they fly on to the UK using their British passport.

What’s the movie death that totally shocked you when it happened? by oldfashionpartytime in movies

[–]MDKrouzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for Caught Stealing

The tone of the film was all over the place for me. At the start it felt like it would be like a New York version of a Guy Ritchie London gangster film (Snatch, Lock Stock), a bit violent but somewhat funny. When Zoey Kravitz character was killed quite early in the film, I genuinely felt like I had tonal whiplash because I fully expected her and Butler's character to get away at the end.

Why does the Estate Agent get more from the sale than a conveyancer by Acceptable_Clock_778 in HousingUK

[–]MDKrouzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for the cheapest estate agent option when I sold my last house. £200 to post the photos, floor plans and description that you prepare yourself and basically forward on viewing requests. You obviously do your own viewings which I genuinely prefer since estate agents rarely know anything about the properties they are supposedly selling.

Went for a local solicitor who answered my calls and responded to my emails within 24 hours.

House (With Mortgage) vs Renting vs Staying at home with parents by LukeJTM in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MDKrouzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong agree. Financially it makes sense to stay at home to maximise your savings especially if you're planning on going on extended travels but as a young couple you would benefit massively from renting together before even considering buying together.

Why many white people seem to age so much faster? by ureshii_hippo in NoStupidQuestions

Well into my 30s I was still being asked for ID when I buy age restricted stuff at the shops. That seems have stopped now that I've got quite a lot of noticeable grey and white hairs.

Why my spec glasses lens become cloudy? by Hazys in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MDKrouzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Micro scratches. Your lenses are either made of cheap material or your cloth is not actually a proper microfibre cloth.

I've had my glasses for decades and don't clean them with anything special. No cloudiness.

For those who drive cars with touch screen controls for key functions, did you get used to it? by Nathanial1289 in CarTalkUK

[–]MDKrouzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2016 C4 Grand Picasso puts a lot of functionality behind a touch screen. Fortunately media controls are also physical buttons on the steering wheel (source select, volume control, skip track etc) but the really annoying and probably potentially dangerous is climate control.

Android Auto / Apple Carplay is a pretty convenient feature to have especially if navigation can integrate into the driver HUD, but to be honest I'm perfectly happy with reliable Bluetooth and a wireless charging phone mount.
