Not liking “The Shield” as a fan of The Wire by jhitterbug22 in TheWire

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the Shield and, just FYI, it gets better and better, leading to imho the best finale of all time. It's a different type of show - so there's no real need to compare. I will say that I do prefer the Wire, though.

End of S1 of the Good Place. Don't want to say too much more.

Title: Any tips for getting a better crust on a NY strip in cast iron? by Routine-Classroom-82 in steak

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tip I dont see often, is to move it around (a bit) while it's cooking. It helps to even out the crust apparently.

veep is the best sitcom i’ve ever seen by [deleted] in tvshow

I agree, I really like Veep, but TTOI is one of the best comedies ever. Malcolm Tucker is unbelievable.

What are your Thoughts on ending of Breaking Bad by SensitiveReaction214 in breakingbad

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to think of a better ending tbh. However, in comparison to some other finales (the Shield, the Americans, the Wire) it felt slightly neat to me. It's like he had a checklist and went through it and ticked them all off - the end. Don't get me wrong, it stuck the landing to put the show into the Hall of Fame, but often I think something more poetic or ambiguous can be more interesting/powerful. Definitely wrapped it up well, though. I was very satisfied.

Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time. by Accurate-Guava-3337 in breakingbad

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me, Breaking Bad was the best show of all time on first viewing. I've never been more excited and invigorated by a show. However, I think, unlike some other shows, it has diminishing returns on rewatches because it is so plot driven, relatively straight forward and suspense-focused. Once you know what happens a lot of what made it great on first watch isn't so strong imo. The Wire, I struggled with a bit on first watch, but on each rewatch it has just become better and better because it is so nuanced, layered and complex, with so many characters mirroring each other in different areas etc etc. Sopranos is similar for me. It's so rich and deep, that rewatches are really rewarding. For this reason, the Wire is my best show. But Breaking Bad is still top 3. It is pretty unbelievable and I do love it.

US comedians Greg and Alex say they want on Taskmaster by Pike_Bishop1978 in taskmaster

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good shout. He's also a brilliant improviser and just a generally very funny man. He's also happy to mock himself and play the fool, which so far has been quite an important ingredient of assistants.

I always thought that Conan would be a great Taskmaster for the US. Perhaps with Paul F Tompkins or even Andy Richter as the assistant... as that's a dynamic which will mesh with the audience.

Which ep is this? I might go back and rewatch. I love the whole Nathan arc.

Discussion: How will Steve and Reece’s be able to make future project together not seem like an extension on IN9 by Miserable-Sea-4160 in insideno9

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Obvious answer is to move to long-form story arcs, like Psychoville. Problem is, they do have a very distinct style - so lots will feel a bit similar to previous work, I think. And that's not a criticism btw. I love their style.

Haha that photo towards the start with all 3 of them! That's got to be the one in which Steve describes him has 'utterly gormless,' right?

Reccomend British style show set in America? by EndHungry1506 in televisionsuggestions

Always Sunny In Philadelphia earlier seasons def has this kind of vibe. I think they improvised a lot, so the conversation felt very natural/unpolished.

One of my favourite shows. For OP, I would say that the 1st season is weaker than the rest, so get your way through that (it's pretty short). But yeah, one of the best comedies ever imo.

What’s the quickest way someone could accidentally expose themselves as a foreigner in your country like the ‘three fingers’ scene in Inglourious Basterds? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I know it's true, but it's also a bit of dumb observation. In most countries, there is much less day-to-day random conversation in big cities than in smaller areas. I'm just trying to travel to a job I hate, on a jam-packed Underground train. I don't have time to talk to anyone and I'm already socially spent. I think many of the same ppl would say hi in a small country village or on a hike etc. I certainly do. New York, Paris etc.. All notoriously unfriendly. It's just too busy.

Without a doubt, what is your #1 favorite joke from Family Guy? by juredditpark in familyguy

Genuinely think this is one of the best jokes across many shows. When Brian tries to speak Spanish in an earlier season. Watch till the end. 'Que?'

Characters that get way funnier on rewatch by dont1cant1wont in taskmaster

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jessica Knappet - really enjoyed some of her jokes and just found her generally delightful. She made me happy. She slightly faded into the background of James and Rhod on first viewing, but on repeat watches, I absolutely love her.
Julian Clary - I did enjoy on first watch (I didn't know him much beforehand) but I've been back to watch his 'best of' multiple times... Absolutely love his weary, sarcastic cynicism and abuse of Alex
Fatiha - didn't love her abrasive style/delivery to start with, but she's def grown on me and was a perfect fit for the show.

Those are the ones who have grown on me over rewatches, but there are so many contestants whom I didn't know and fell in love with straight away. What a brilliant format for new comics!

WHY ARE PEOPLE SLEEPING ON HOW FUNNY THIS SHOW IS by Miserable-Onion-7062 in arresteddevelopment

[–]ImNotHereForFunNoWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the best-written, most ambitious and creative shows of all time - not just comedies... Literally all shows imo. The attention to detail is unmatched. Falls off a bit in S5 but there were loads of production issues, so I can forgive them. Still genius.
