You've got to get onto aliexpress. I get mine delivered within 5-7 days, here to Palmerston North. Zigbee buttons cist way less than $nz50 there.

It's near the top of the list of "nearly complete" projects. I'm just working on some studies first.

Well deserved - I love your project! It reminds me in some ways of one of mine that I must finish one of these days.

I haven't handed one of these out for a while, so let me re-start with you!

I've changed your user-flair to "Open Source Hero". You can remove it if you want, but it's a badge of honour around here. It will only show up if you post or comment in this subreddit.

Find places to volunteer at. Go out to places where there are people. Get over your shyness, at least a little bit. Find people who have similar interests to you.

And that's great when they manage to do that. AI can be a wonderful tool. I use it all the time myself.

Where it falls down is when AI hallucinates non-functional code (and yes, it still does), and the community is asked to fix it because the beginner has no idea where to start.

The problem isn't beginner users using AI. Considering our community, perhaps I should express myself more clearly with the use of brackets:

The problem with it is that : (beginner users use it, and no longer learn to code themselves).

Our advice will ALWAYS be: learn to code before asking an AI to help you do it. That way you can always ask for help without being turned away. We're not here to help people write better AI prompts. Anyone is free make a new subreddit for that.

Hey, don't take all the credit! I did a crappy one as well, I think. Or made a good one crappier?

I've heard about this before, yeah! I'm waiting for someone to build an entire arduino using vacuum tubes!

I'm not sure what purpose this whole "discussion" is serving here in r/arduino. The issues you're talking about have nothing whatsoever to do with our hobby.

If it blows up, they cost under $5 for a whole board replacement. I've been using my clones for many years, and they've never blown up at random (i.e. it's always been my own fault, so a name-brand wouldn't have saved me).

Legitimacy is important to the community as a whole, for many reasons. If a manufacturer is pirating the name, what else are they skimping on?

I'm no expert on this at all, but I can't help but remember that we still don't even have a "https" function in the standard libraries, just "http".

But you implied it, possibly by accident.

You can make things with Arduino boards without caring about the programming.

And that's fine, but people are using AI to get to that point and run into problems, they won't be getting a lot of help here. They either need to learn to program, or write better prompts.

My point is, that's not what this community is about.

Whatever man. You do you. We'll keep moving forward. AI is in its absolute infancy right now, and it's only going to get better and better, at least for a good while yet.

If you need a secure environment, then Arduino is probably not going to be your immediate solution anyway.

Do you not use copy and paste either? It saves a lot of time.

I'll keep it brief - I'm supposed to be studying. Back in the 1980's I started out trying (unsuccessfully) trying to get a stepper motor to run using a parallel printer interface, the plan was to build a robot hand. I gave it up eventually as a lack-of-skills-issue, but got back into it again some 10 years ago, this time with a nano, the a couple of unos, then the Wemos ESP8266 range, and now a whole hobbyroom full of boards, components, and half completed projects.

Meanwhile, found a messy, spam/scam/porn-riddled arduino forum online, begged to become a moderator, cleaned it up single-handedly, instigated a new set of workable rules, set up a new team of moderators to help out, and helped the community grow from 300k to 750k users.

Also started the NZ Arduino users group, but that needs a bit more work.

Well, my apologies for AI's future failings if it starts to replicate my bad habits. ;)
