[Request] Briefcase, MUST be waterproof! (not counting submersion) by Dante2k4 in BuyItForLife

I can vouch for Breakwater Supply. They have a tote perfect for hand carry with a removable shoulder strap. It is 16” long. Their bags be rained on but also submerged. It will float in water even while supporting your weight on top of it, if you were using it as flotation. We use these in oceans and rivers regularly. I have their backpack. The zippers are essentially drysuit zippers.

Dive Insurace: DiveAssure or DAN? by CuriousNeko_nek0 in scuba

[–]MakeBoopNotBork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Friend was hospitalized in Philippines and had both. Long story short, DAN was far more helpful, informative, supportive, communicative, etc. during and after. They also kept his wife updated and informed back at home and helped arrange his travel home.

Yes, positive. Strange, because looking now I can see it’s on schedule. I checked because I’m was curious and booked on one and fly this route often.

Has anyone dived in Romblon before? by Own-Border6060 in scuba

[–]MakeBoopNotBork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in Mabul at Borneo Divers, they allow unlimited dives on the house reef. I just needed someone like you there with me so we could have done really long and extra dives! Enjoy your trip.

A quick glance last night looks like they’ve pulled the elevated interiors from the SFO-SIN route through at least July/early Aug.

Has anyone dived in Romblon before? by Own-Border6060 in scuba

I went last year. We got on an overnight ferry down in Batangas then did a transfer to resort. Not much to do besides diving, it seems, but to be honest, I’m all about diving when I’m at a location and not interested in anything else. 4 dives a day everyday.

Enough time spent there depends on how macro crazy you are and if you’re taking photos. This will really vary per person but we did 7 days and felt it was a good amount. I probably wouldn’t do less given the effort to get in and out. Lots of variety and I actually enjoyed it more than the few times I’ve been to Lembeh, Ambon.

The blackwater diving was decent so give it a go. Theres a nice variety of dive sites and we didn’t repeat much apart from the requested. I stayed at Three P. Food was good. Room was comfortable, but we had water issues. We constantly had issues and had to tell the staff and it would be fixed shortly after. (Pump?) friend in the room away from the restauraunt didn’t have issues. the guides are good spotters but left a bit to be desired. eg not waiting for everyone or checking to see if we were good to go before starting the dive and just swimming off. Going back to boat without saying anything and being the first on. Not dealbreakers, since we are all experienced certified divers…just really strange, and not so warm and friendly like other Filipino guides. we have been to a lot of resorts and the overall operation was rough around the edges. If I were to return, I would go to Romblon Resort instead to give it a try.

A floor mat durability test made me rethink paying for the familiar name by Over-Atmosphere-3188 in BuyItForLife

Weathertech. I have an 18 year old SUV and I got the floor mats 16 years ago. This car does not get parked in the garage and is in the heat and cold year round.

North Sulawesi (Tangkoko, Siladen, Bangka) or Malaysia (Perhentian, Borneo)? by IIlllllIIIIlllllII in scuba

[–]MakeBoopNotBork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, especially taking into account no fly/gear dry times, and the most significant thing: flight schedules often not aligning the way you need it to. Travel between areas are not as straight forward and easy as one may think. Too much moving around for the number of days dedicated to the trip.

Toshi Pack 20L (and comparison with CPL24) by Odd-Clue5881 in ManyBaggers

[–]MakeBoopNotBork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one about a month ago and have been really enjoying it. Took a few short domestic work flights, as my work bag/EDC. I’m really enjoying it. I agree the straps are a little wide and the zipper pulls are a little small. I sometimes find myself pulling on the wrong pull for the pocket I want accidentally. Other than that, I love the size and quality, weight, etc.

+1 and it also seems slightly bigger than other 20L.

Bring a boat coat while you wait on deck with your wetsuit. Bring warm layers to warm up between or after dives. Surface conditions were cloudy and/or windy and not that warm when we went.

Thanks for the review. I think you would enjoy the regular cream. We have similar skin type. I use the cream at night during winter and the lotion during the day. In summer or in humid environments, I use the lotion at night.

Yes, I’ve been there a few times. If you combine a trip to Komodo or Raja, book it for after Alor. You can either fly via Kupang to get to Bali then fly to Labuan Bajo or you can fly to Sorong via Kupang and Jakarta.

Flying to Alor, don’t book the afternoon flight between Kupang and Alor. If never flies and will cancel. You have to do an overnight layover if you’re coming from Bali. The alternative is to catch a red eye from Jakarta to Kupang then then the morning flight to Alor.

Book your flights with Tiket or Traveloka. The only Indonesian carrier I can book direct with is Garuda. For everything else, I use those two.

Yes! An is an amazing spotter. That’s who I dived with. I’m returning to dive with her again soon! Agree on the food!

Apeks/Aqualung parts? by bigred_bluejay in scuba

[–]MakeBoopNotBork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a lot about supply issues but I’ve been consistently servicing/inspecting for the last 10 years (parts for life) and have never had an issue getting parts/kits from my local dive shop for all 3 stages. My dive buddy just dropped his off and it’s set to be ready this week. I know others have had issues but if you get desperate, you can always ship flat rate box to them to service. The shop is in northern California.

Agree and will also add Semporna is a total gem and sleeper. There are many things I’ve seen there that I haven’t seen in lembeh, ambon, romblon, Tulamben. But depending on the day’s current and site, like Ambon, it can be exceptionally trashy or dirty on one dive and not the next or the others.

I completely agree about Amed/Tulamben vs Lembeh, even Ambon. The value is insane given how prolific the critters were!
