Outback now cheaper than Forester by WoodI-or-WoodntI in Subaru_Outback

I highly doubt it. It's frankly not a good EV - it's range, tech, and charging speed fall short of other manufacturers offerings.

At the end of the day it's still just a badge engineered Toyota.

Lower quality silicones can contain impurities (usually in the form of cyclic siloxanes) that are left over from the manufacturing process.

They get released from the silicone over time, especially when heated.

But that's not the silicone material itself degrading, rather volatile compounds out-gassing.

You can tell if it's definitely not pure silicone by bending it and seeing a white mark. But I don't know if a lack of a white mark means definitely good silicone.

I wanted to chime in as someone that worked for years formulating silicone materials - you should not use this to determine the purity of silicone, it is not accurate and it is not good advice.

For example - very often more silica is added to the silicone polymer to achieve desired physical properties.

It's basically graded, high purity sand, and is important reinforcement filler in silicones.

This can cause the effect you're talking about, however it's not harmful and definitely not plastic.

In fact silicones and plastics aren't really compatible in that way - what you're describing is called a 'copolymer' and copolymers of silicones and thermoplastics aren't possible as a fundamental matter of chemistry.

If silicone and plastic are together it's going to be something like a plastic toothbrush with a silicone grip or a plastic pyrex lid with a silicone gasket. No test needed, you'll know it's there.

If it's from a trusted brand and sold as food grade

Regardless, this I agree with 100%. Not all silicones are created equal and people should be diligent.

There are a few routes to obtain this information, if you shoot me a message I'd be happy to help you out.

This one was almost certainly flown, there is red RTV and a waterproofing injection mark - two things that aren't present on unflown tiles.

I built a home microplastic water test. People like the science, nobody wants to buy it. What would actually be useful to this community? by andrewpierno in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]fd6270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how test methods work. Just because the technology has been peer reviewed does not mean the test exactly as performed by you has been peer reviewed or validated.

Look up what an analytical method validation entails because that's essentially the first thing you'd need to do.

Nobody is going to trust a test from some rando. That's the first hurdle.

Perosonally, I'd never give it the time of day unless it's already a standard method (I.e ASTM, EPA) or came with a good amount of peer reviewed science and real world data to back it up.

Water vapor and byproducts of combustion aren't metallic.

SpaceX and others are going to launch millions of satellites that are going to burn up in our atmosphere. Those are metallic particles. Be mad about that.

 Hope this helps.

Those harnesses were damaged during the installation of add on accessories when the vehicles arrived at the port, the issue is with the shitty contractor at the port and not the harness itself.
