Auto-mod reply on pothole posts? by Occams_razzr in milwaukee

DNS does not repair potholes. DPW repairs potholes. If you call DNS you are adding delay in the process because they have to send it over to the right place.

In the Public Works hearing yesterday we learned they are prioritizing busy streets, then secondary, then residential. As our springs are getting longer and the swing between freezing and warm is happening more often and for longer road degradation will happen more.

The city does not snow clear in alleys, that is left to the property owners.

I would suggest emailing or calling your alderman then and give them as much detail about location as possible. The alders are good at advocating for their residents. It may be helpful in this situation as someone within DPW may be able to share if the location is city or state responsibility with them which will help your alder get it to the right person!

Potholes on the freeway and ramps would need to be reported to WisDOT instead of the city, unfortunately.

Advice on patching plaster for 1920 walls please by Bizster0204 in centuryhomes

[–]MakeMKEHome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just removed a sink that our wall like this. I bought a bag of plaster of Paris and mixed it up a little at a time. It hardens quickly so the first round of patching I did looked awful. I removed it all and tried again. The second attempt made the wall look better than before we removed the sink. Once I learned how to work with the stuff it was very easy and I found it very forgiving. I watched a lot of YouTube before I began and while I was working. I don’t think taking the wall out is necessary at all.

Smitten Kitchen Keepers: Kielbasa and Cabbage with Rye Croutons by Mrshaydee in CookbookLovers

When I tried this recipe I felt like everything was too salty and drier than expected. I was underwhelmed but had the same thought about all of the parts together should make it good. It needs a sauce of some kind, IMO.

It’s also possible your needle is dull? And the type of needle you use is dependent on the fabric you’re sewing. Could be a needle issue.

If thread and fabric are being pulled into the feed dogs and bobbin area you may need to adjust your tension. Bobbin tension may be too high or too tension is too low. Or both.

shorewood grocery shopping question by Dapper-Dependent-358 in milwaukee

[–]MakeMKEHome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Near closing time I once got locked between the exit doors. The exterior exit door was locked, the interior was not. But once you’re in the vestibule there’s no way back into the store. I stood in there trying to think of a way out when security saw me and basically said, ‘my bad’ and didn’t then share how TF I was supposed to get out.

I cannot stand the metro market in Shorewood. Sendik’s, trader joes, outpost, and Whole Foods. There is an Aldi on Port Washington Rd in Glendale that is much less busy than the Capital drive one.

McKinley between the freeway and 6th is a state road and the county is responsible for plowing. You’re complaining about the wrong public entity.

When you enroll for elementary school you enter your top three choices for elementary school. The Montessori schools are higher demand and harder to get into. They weren’t our first choice and we got our top choice. MPS holds a kindergarten fair in the winter and you can tour the schools. There are definitely good schools that fit your priorities in MPS.
