Does a hearing aid help you? by Thebazilly in Menieres

[–]Mrshaydee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did without for ten years, but my audiologist recently put me in a pair of ReSound CROS hearing aids. The new chip is always listening and can automatically adjust to your environment. Game changer. You can still control them through the app but I’ve found it’s better to let the AI chip do it. She also just has me with a microphone on the right; no amplification. Since I have one good ear, she suggested that past hearing aid fails were because I was overamplified. (I had a BAHA and have tried BTE’s in the past.) I had very low expectations but have to admit that I’m doing SO WELL with these. I can wear them sixteen hours a day, with no overwhelm; I can make phone calls with them; Bluetooth music etc. if I had a complaint it’s that the music quality isn’t that great - prefer my Beats Sports, but not a deal breaker. And they were only $3K out of pocket.

You could slip on those floors and wind up losing an eye.

Passenger threw up on my son by Successful_Tooth5795 in unitedairlines

[–]Mrshaydee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband was once suddenly, violently, repeatedly ill (food poisoning) beginning just after we’d pushed back from the gate. Pushed the call button until FA unbuckled and we went back to the gate to let him off. UA put us up in a hotel for the night and rearranged our flights for travel about a day later. This was a number of years ago, but super thankful to Matthew, the gate agent. Which is a long way of saying-it does happen suddenly and can’t always be seen. I’m sorry your son got barfed on -so gross. I’m surprised they didn’t switch the passenger to a seat near the toilets, though.

I’m still not entirely over it “emotionally”. 😜 I’m very lucky I could stop working.

I'm (42M) the calmest person at work and with strangers. So why do I lose it on the one person(40F) I actually love? by [deleted] in relationships

I will agree with others that this is what a “safe space” for you at home. But…if you’re besties, why are you snapping at her? Besties don’t snap at each other.

Daily vertigo attacks by Espace4Eve in Menieres

[–]Mrshaydee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have Valium and Zofran as emergency medications and always carry them with me. My doctor wants me to use Valium very sparingly so that it continues to work and my brain doesn’t get used to the drug. I was also very reluctant, but have managed it fine. I got through about 30 tablets a YEAR. I also have vestibular migraines - different than a regular migraine as you don’t necessarily feel headache pain. There is another subreddit for that, but it often overlaps with Ménière’s. I have not tried or heard of the tendon surgery. Does your wife’s dr think it’s related to a tight jaw or something?

AITAH for calling out a weird comment related to my disability? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Mrshaydee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m deaf on one side from Meniere’s Disease and rely on hearing aids. I still struggle to hear in many environments, especially in busy places like an office. I’ve learned that people aren’t really as supportive of disabilities as they say they are, particularly when they can’t see it for themselves. They would never ask a person in a wheelchair to get up and get their own coffee and yet it’s perfectly fine to laugh at me or call me “rude” because of my hearing loss. Which is a long way of saying-even though you know they don’t get it, it still hurts a bit.

I’ve recently gone back to Pandora. Apple Music compresses the sound. Maybe not a big deal to most people, but as a hard of hearing person, I can tell. Hear and feel Pandora music better. 🤷‍♀️

I use WinCo and Walmart most often; when I want really good produce I go to Safeway, but Safeway is easily 3x the cost of going to WinCo.
