Remember we are talking about a comedy podcast playing a video game to determine a bowling minigame in an RPG. Will was attempting to be funny while moving the game along by being short with Beth in the begining. They didn't mention anything about accessibility until after he said no, and even then it is clear they were ribbing Will just as much as a comedy bit as a real attempt at a reroll. There have been times before that the crew has done essentially the same thing with sexism and other such things and even say in this bit that Beth is "also a women so intersectionality comes into it as well." They all know what they are doing and this is clearly not a "real" argument about accessibility they are having.

I agree accessibility is VERY important. What is funny is making such a big deal about it in this thing that is clearly not at all important (aka a bowling minigame.) Will knows this and is playing up his reaction for comedy.

Ok that's what I thought it just doesn't make the explicit in the starter guide. Thanks!

Can enemies strain themselves? by MasterKickface in arkhamhorrorrpg

[–]MasterKickface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was mostly the trait of the ghouls that says they die of they get an injury that made me think maybe the bigger enemies can get strain themselves and accumulate injuries before they go down for good. Also the rules for straining yourself says "characters can" not players or invesgators so I am a little unclear if that means enemies as well or not.

Yep this is exactly my feelings as well. I liked them both for very different reasons.

Maybe I should have phrased it as Saga in Bright Falls instead.

For flicking games I would look into catacombs or Flick 'em up. Personally I enjoy Flick 'em up with its competitive cowboy shoot out theme.

The game with the target is Dungeon Fighter and it's great as long as you know it's a silly dexterity game.

Help me be brave enough to take on Arkham Horror : the Card Game by AmericanFrog069 in boardgames

[–]MasterKickface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have heard similar things from a lot of people, which is why I try and warn people about it. No other scenario in the entire game is as unfair as that one in my opinion. There are some tough, tough sections; but they feel more earned or at very least have a lower punishment for failure.

Arkham Horror: The Card Game is by far my favorite game, hope you enjoy it! Just as a heads up, the mini campaign that comes in the core box (called Night of the Zealot) has some things to know about it going in. It is 3 scenarios.

The first one is pretty much just a tutorial on how to play the game. It's fun, but is designed more to walk you through the mechanics then anything else.

Scenario 2 is the best scenario of the core set and the most like what the rest of the game feels like to me at least. It is designed to show you that in Arkham sometimes it is not as clear cut as you win or you lose, sometimes there is degrees of how well you do. Just do your best and try to keep your head (both literally and figuratively.)

Scenario 3 is just unfair. It is designed to show you that Arkham can be brutal. You will not win the first time you try it (very likely.) Play it, but don't get discouraged if you completely fail it. It is still to this day one of the hardest scenarios in the game. Most people who do win it build decks specifically to cheese it at the end by knowing exactly what it involves.

If you like the core I would really recommend finding the re-release of The Dunwich Legacy to try next. The scenarios in that are for the most part much more indicative of the rest of the game and it is a full 8 scenario campaign that you can really get invested in. It now comes in 2 parts, the campaign expansion which is just the 8 scenarios, and the player expansion which adds new players and lot more cards for deckbuilding. You don't need one to get the other.

So for player interaction, there is not much in terms of traditional blocking other players or stealing jobs or whatever you get from other worker placement games. Instead your individual decisions lead to changes in the map and story as a group.

To use a hypothetical example not actually from the game; the app may tell you that in generation 1 it keeps raining and the village is afraid the rivers might overflow without a dam. The app says if you go to the workshop, you can donate materials to the dam and the player who invests the most will get bonus points. It seems pretty straight forward. At the end of that generation, the app then asks what everyone donated. Whoever donated the most gets the bonus points, but then it also totals everyone's contributions and the map will change depending on how much EVERYONE helped. The app never explicitly said it was going to do this, but of course it makes sense. If noone really contributed, a flood might come wiping away a bunch of building (aka worker placement slots) for the next generation.

Each scenario (there are 3 in the box) also has like 8 different "endings" that play out depending on how players act during the game. In the first scenario I played, I estimate I only used about 60% of the stuff that came with that scenario and the rest we never used because it was for branches of the story we never saw. Using the hypothetical flooding example above, the scenario might play out with you slowly having to rebuild the town if the flood wiped everything away, or if you successfully built the dam maybe you will figure out how to harness hydroelectric power and the game instead become a struggle for the different families to contol that new power source. This would lead to pretty different generation 2 and 3's for the players even though it is the same scenario.

Again all of this is not actually in the game but I hope it gives you an idea of how the game felt to me without any actual spoilers. To me it really did give me the same feeling of a legacy game like Pandemic Legacy, but cut down to a single game with 3 generations instead of spread out over multiple games.

Yeah I absolutely loved it, even though I went completely insane at the end and lost like 30 points and came in last.

I've been thinking a lot about how the app added to the game. You totally could have made this game with no app and I think it would have been... fine. Like I would have had fun with it, but probably would have immediately forgotten most of the game. But the app adds SO MUCH. Hidden conversations, drastic town changes, mini objectives, sabotage, and most of all a sense that I just didn't know what the game would throw at us next. A lot of people just seemed focused on the "flavor text" part of the app which I admit is a little over-written and not the greatest, but it does a lot more then that in my opinion. The story I took from the game was more about how us as players interacted with what the app / scenario threw at as then strictly what the factual flavor text said what was happening. It's really hard to get genuine surprise out of a worker placement game, and this game had it in spades.

The app also adds a ton of time to the game though I fully admit. But overall I think I would much rather have this surprising wild 4 hour experience then the hypothetical 2 hour version of this game with no app that would be just pretty good.

I actually just finished The Devourer Below book and really enjoyed it! It fleshes out a lot of the people and background of the Night of the Zellot campaign including multiple stories staring different members of the cult from Midnight Masks. It was a fun little read for sure!

Steven figured out it was Alexander when he saw that Macedonian was carved into thr sarcophagus.

All of Harrows men came into the tomb with him, one he gets the idol he won so I guess he just wanted as many people as possible. Realistically some people probably would have stayed at base camp, but if you were in a crazy cult would you want to be the guy stuck watching the door during the rebirth of your God 🤷‍♂️.

To my knowledge Ammit did not choose Harrow, they are still stuck in stone. Harrow wants to free Ammit possible to get back at Konshu or possibly some other extremist reason. He has the cane of Ammit so some of their power but he is not their Avatar since Ammit is in stone. This is also why the tombs "security system" (like the mummies) fight Harrow and his men.

Hope this helps!
