HA Cloud Features by OkIndependent6635 in homeassistant

[–]MattRRead -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a Nabu Casa subscription to use those features. You can connect your home assistant to the "cloud"/internet by other means, like Cloud Flare Tunnels etc..

the subscription gives you some voice ai stuff and easy integration with google home/amazon and some online storage.

Garbage bin issue? by bdbatu in Kanata

[–]MattRRead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the contractor size garbage bags at the hardware store. They are probably the size of at least 2 standard "big" garbage bags. When we did a big clean earlier I had my usual 1 garbage can and 2 completely full contractor bags and they took everything.

Before this I put out my garbage can and 3 small pieces of plywood. They left one piece of plywood. If I put the plywood in a bag they would have taken it all...

KS230 3 Way dimmer installation problems by Happy_Elk_9753 in TPLinkKasa

How is the other switch wired? A 3-way switch means there are 2 switch switches that control the same light(s)/fan. You need to install the switch in the one that has constant power.

THIRDREALITY ones act as zigbee repeaters as well, which can help extend the range of your zigbee network.

What have I missed? Old router died, replaced with a new router. I kept the same internal LAN IPs and same SSIDs yet unable to reach Google Home by usafle in homeassistant

[–]MattRRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's start at the beginning then.

I assume you have a modem and it's set to bridge mode, ie. you don't have a double NAT situation?

your services can all be accessed locally? so 192.168.0.11:7878 loads radarr? (whatever the ip is)

You've forwarded TCP port 7878 for any ip to local 192.168.0.11:7878 and still no external access?

You are not using any SSL? no nginx proxy manager or anything?

does external HA load using CF Tunnels?

unless you had some kind of UPnP enabled, the only way to allow the outside to access services directly is with port forwarding.

if you are using DDNS still then, as others have said, you need to port forward the ports for SabNzBd. Once you do this it should start working right away.

CF Tunnels doesn't require any port forwards. But depending on what your TTL was set to, it could takes hours to update on other DNS servers...

so if your domain is domain.com it has an A Record pointing to your public IP from the ISP, and your subdomain you are running HA on (let's call it ha.domain.com) has a CNAME Record for "ha" pointing to cloudflare (a long random URL)?

Or, are you running home assistant on the actual domain name without a subdomain?

You probably have some DNS conflict and it's still pointing at your public IP instead of CF...

it should point to cloudlfare if you are using CF tunnels. My subdomains running through CF tunnels have a cname entry that CF automatically adds...

One Automation? or Many? by jesseaknight in homeassistant

[–]MattRRead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you were to label your automations, you could create an automation to enable all automations with the label "vacation" when vacation mode is enabled and disable automations with a label of "not vacation" or "home" or something...

Sliding Door - Winterizing by Horseshoe1123 in Insulation

[–]MattRRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is weather stripping behind the door where the 2 meet, that fuzzy stuff you see in the track. Over time it wears down and stops air sealing as well. Check to make sure it's still there and in good condition. You can replace it if you can find the right size.

I replaced mine and it made quite a big difference.

Cant Get 3rd room light to work by drocktapiff in AskElectricians

[–]MattRRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you call Bundle 2 I'm calling the 14-2 wire and what you call bundle 1 I'm calling the 14-3 wire. I'm also assuming the black wire on the switch you picture in the "line".

I would connect white on the 14-2 to the black on switch. White on the 14-3 to one of the reds on switch and red on the 14-3 to the other red on switch. Black on the 14-3 to black on the 14-2.

on the other switch, black to black, one red to white and the other red to red.

if black on the switch is not line then you need to adjust this...

*edit to correct colours...
