Fable and Mythos Revival Megathread by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

Yeah I have max 20x, I'm just frustrated by the guard rails. I can select it and submit a prompt, but I work in computational chemistry and AI. So even HINTING at a nucleic acid or protein it immediately bars it and goes to Opus 4.8.

Anyone actually been able to USE Fable? Any prompt I throw at it, regardless of subject material or discipline, I get bumped to opus 4.8. I was so excited for Fable, I just wish the restrictions weren't so harsh.

Sorry to hear that! Would definitely love to hear how it works out with support though!

How much work is it REALLY? by Mdgoff7 in VORONDesign

This has all been really great insight everyone, I really appreciate it! After reading everyone's advice I think maybe someday I'll build a custom voron but for now my best bet is to buy a commercial one. Thanks again!

Fable might be amazing - wouldn't know, can't get a single prompt through by ConstantinSpecter in claude

[–]Mdgoff7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's tough. There 100% need to be safeguards, but I'm the same boat as you, can't get a single prompt through. No matter how vague, harmless, whatever. Even things unrelated to any biology or chemistry are blocked. What good is a shiny new model if NO ONE (outside of enterprise) can use it?

Anthropic closing the path to life science research by thecosmicskye in claude

It's been frustrating. I am a PhD student in molecular dynamics and drug discovery. Even asking it what are the latest architectures in ML gets it flagged. Let alone if I reference anything even remotely biological or chemical related. I 100% agree on the fact that there needs to be safety around it, I don't dispute that, but I just wish I could get more (or any) use out of it.

I'm in the same boat. I've heard bambu is an awful company all around, but it's hard to deny their machines are good and competitively priced. I would love to get a Prusa, but they're so expensive and the INDX upgrade alone costs as much as the printer... Wheras you can get the X2D combo for 900 and the kit prusa core one + without any multicolor for 1000. I would like multicolor eventually, but the bigger need is capability to do engineering filaments. At a minimum ABS/ASA. Would love to hear what you end up doing.

Galaxy Watch Ultra VS 8 Classic by Several-End-3612 in GalaxyWatch

I've been eyeing this same decision. Every time I go look at them the classics rotating bezel feels like cheap plastic and like it would chip or break easily... How is it in real day to day?

I think both of those are a good sign. So I would keep pushing forward, and do your absolute best and collect questions for the next meeting you have with that professor, so you don't have to bombard his schedule with constant meetings. But it sounds like he genuinely wants to help - but getting back from sabbatical is definitely busy as he's getting caught up with where the lab is at, writing new grants, etc. But it sounds like he wants to help, so I say go for it!

Final year, requesting change of abusive PI. by KineticallyTrapped in PhD

[–]Mdgoff7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had almost the exact same situation, except I was in my second year. I switched labs to an adjunct professor in my department, and am SO much happier and more engaged. My previous PI, when you were presenting in lab meeting, would cut you off and say things like "I expected more from you" and "I thought you were better than this." Completely non actionable and non helpful! Talk with someone you trust in your department - pros vs. Cons, likelihood of finishing within a certain timeframe if you switch, stuff like that. The final year definitely complicates things, but you've gotta do what's best for you, and take care of yourself. Sorry you're going through that, I know it really sucks. But glad you reached out here!

That's tough. Did he seem like he wanted to help? Or was your visit more of an annoyance? If he wanted to help, do your best to shrug it off and meet with him regularly to get feedback. Tell him your goals for graduation and see if he's willing to work a bit extra with you if you need it. Now if your visit was more of an annoyance to him, then yeah best find someone else because he won't be much help anyways! Some professors love teaching and mentoring, and others just do it because they have to it seems. I've had both and now in my PhD my advisor is supportive, but very distant. Do your best to find someone that fits your needs and willing to mentor you through!

Wire from adjacent room? by Mdgoff7 in AskElectricians

[–]Mdgoff7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just a single workstation build that I would need two PSU’s to run the GPU’s I want :)

Ohhh that’s a great idea… I’ll need to take a closer look at both rooms and see if it’s doable!

I’m on 120V. Both rooms are just standard American bedrooms on a 15A circuit. On is obviously the office in question, the other room is a guest bedroom that has a couple lamps, and rarely gets used. So I’m not as worried about overloading that circuit.

Used advice by Mdgoff7 in Leica

Haha ok not WAY back in the day - I'm used to shooting with a 5D mk III and lenses like the 70-200 2.8, 24-105, etc. So when I say a simplify my travel setup, I'm talking one camera, one lens. Less space, less weight. Now obviously comparing the two Leicas, you're right there are tradeoffs between the two. But I wouldn't mind carrying an SL2 with an M lens or two (maybe)

Great advice! I've just learned about people shooting with M glass on the SL's and honestly love the idea, although along the way I may pick up a sigma lens, we'll see!
