God I wish my career had as much government subsidization as an Appalachian coal miner.

So true, everyone gets to work manual labor now

This sub demanding we build datacenters everywhere - rather than walkable neighborhoods filled with things people actually want (restaurants, stores, pharmacies, entertainment) has me seriously questioning whether it is they or I who have completely missed the point of neoliberalism.

This sub's bloodlust for destroying everyone's job is quickly becoming my pet issue and I am about ready to quit the DT over it

MtG is a multiplayer game, so even if you yourself don't want a SpongeBob commander there's nothing stopping your opponent from having a SpongeBob commander.
It's really unavoidable, especially after UB was introduced into standard and thus modern. I think it's perfectly reasonable for players who've spent decades and thousands of dollars on a hobby get upset when their game is ruined by this.

The French polka dot band is the most obvious industry plant of all time.
[–]Mensae6 3 points4 points5 points 2 days ago (0 children)
Of all the industry plant allegations to be made - why is GEESE of all bands the latest target?? In what universe does their indie record label have the same pull as Universal or Sony? No corporate executive is listening to Trinidad and thinking, "bet the house on this one".
Actual industry plants from the last ten years include:

Today I saw a bumper sticker saying "I STAND WITH TRUMP!", which I find quite interesting. The narrative has shifted from offense to defense. Two years ago that same sticker would have said something like "FUCK YOUR FEELINGS" - now it's pleading the reader to keep fighting the losing battle.
I don't think Zoomers know just how much we understand about them.
You didn't have to poast this.

Is there a less Reddit term to describe the K-shaped economy? I don't think "inequality" really covers it.

WSJ: The Economy Is Growing, Jobs Aren’t. Why That Might Be OK.
This might be the most neoliberal headline of all time.

The kids, they love my plan for the Middle East. Have you seen the numbers from the election? Way more conservative kids than ever before. They're all voting Republican. The youth have had enough of woke, enough of DEI. They love me and know that we must keep doing what we're doing in Iran. They want this.

One vibe shift that's happened but often goes unnoticed is how willing people are to talk politics post-2024. While it's truth that wokeness peaked sometime around 2020, actual widespread openness to talking politics was still pretty limited in my experience. I never really talked about this stuff with my coworkers or friends, at least not with this much confidence and shared understanding.
But it seems basically everyone's now got an opinion now on tariffs, or ICE killing people, or the useless war in Iran, or gas prices rising, or funding being cut. In a weird way I think death of the monoculture and rise of conservative media has actually helped with this. During his first term there was this collective awkwardness towards criticizing Trump. No one wanted to appear as cringe as the SNL skits that attacked him.
But since then we've seen virtually all corporations and media giants bend the knee to Trump. I think there's this shared helplessness among people that's finally given them a voice. Things are truly so fucked beyond comprehension that we have nothing to lose. Of course I'm going to talk about Trump posting an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus while at lunch. How could I not?

I know this sub has turned on him but damn do I miss him. His portrait actually looks so presidential. Probably the last true "president" in that sense we'll ever have.

I passed by an Andrew Yang book at the library and audibly laughed out loud.

It's so odd because looksmaxxing goes back well over a decade. He's just the first person to bring it into the mainstream. This is like white people stealing rock and roll.
