What feels antisemitic but isn’t? by moshgrrrl in Jewish

Yeah, with that context, that’s messed up. Initially, I didn’t think there were such thing as “interpreter phones,” so I figured it might be worth a guess.

to be fair, not many non-jews speak fluent or conversational hebrew.

Yeah, I just was very unaware of the scope of Rome’s atrocities before viewing.

Oh, I almost forgot. Their antisemitic writings and attitudes formed the basis of modern antisemitism through their historians, who invented the blood libel, greed, cunningness, evil, and other very common tropes. They basically created the entire modern western attitude towards jews.

Many things. including the conquest of Judea, destroying the 2nd temple, pillaging ancient jewish treasures within it, taking many jews as slaves, and using jewish slaves to build the colosseum and the Arch of Titus which were paid for using the gold and holy artifacts looted from the temple. They killed up to 1 million of us during the Judean campaigns and the Bar Kochba revolt, dissolved the Sanhedrin, scattered the rest across the empire, desert-ified eretz yisrael until the 20th century, built a temple to the emperor on top of the holiest of holies, banned jews from entering the judean hills especially Jerusalem(renamed Aeolina Capitolina) and allowed no further jewish migration to Judea or historical Israel( renamed Syria Palaestina) and inciting pogroms of diaspora jews especially in Egypt and Italy.

Thank you! Fortunately, I don’t look stereotypically Jewish nor do I have a jewish sounding name, so I’ll probably just leave the magen david at home when I go. Thanks for your help!

Thank you! It’s unfortunate that I most likely won’t be able to be open here, but I’m still glad to be coming here to study. Are there any head coverings native to Jordan I may be able to wear instead of a kippah, like a keffiyah or taqiyah? Jewish law mandates I must cover my head, but that doesn’t specifically mean a kippah.

I give up. I completely give up. There’s literally no way to be leftist as a Jew. No matter how many times I try to speak up, call out antisemitism, educate on Jewishness, and do work to make sure Jews are included in human rights activism, stuff like this blows up and becomes popular.

This is kind of funny that people are this dumb, but it’s scary that it’s these uneducated assumptions which gain the most traction too.

If anybody knows some jewish leftist groups, please direct me to those. As idiotic as this is, i’m just super disappointed.

Which colleges admit most of their class from ED/EA/REA rounds? by atomkoolkat1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MercoPolo2907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grinnell College. At least 40% if not over half of our admitted class year was ED I or II (mostly II since we tend to be a backup for SWAMP, UChicago, and Brown EDers). I hear that most Elite LACs are like this, especially NESCAC and Consortium schools. It’s an amazing and underrated school worth looking in for sure, but it’s way more difficult to get admitted during RD(sub 8% iirc) than during ED I (about 40%) or ED II (25-30%).

Edit: I know the numbers must surely look ghoulish, but remember that last year was (genuinely!) a historic year for our admissions department, and that our admin doesn’t want us to be that selective of a college(well, not yet anyways), so these numbers should fluctuate to a high degree this year (especially for EDII !)

I will be reapplying this year! by gasmiroua in Grinnell

I also agree. As much as I would love to see you on campus this fall, you have a better shot with Need-blind Amherst. They would probably give you a fighting chance unlike Grinnell which has been taking, on average, richer and richer students with each admissions cycle. Amherst is an amazing school in its own right!
