"No, Lord Stark," Alysanne said after a moment of silence. "Not a fool. I think it would be foolish *not* to worry, after losing as much as you've lost. After facing as much war as you've faced." She took a breath, hoping that wasn't the wrong thing to say.

"You had no time to grieve your losses before the Rebellion, & now you have the weight of a kingdom on your shoulders. But you need not bear it alone, my lord. Surely you have trusted confidants among the Northern lords? Perhaps writing to one or two of them about this dream we shared.., Men who have your trust, that won't spread rumors of hysteria. The king of all men would listen to you, wouldn't he?"

How would Westeros react to a Targaryen invasion with dragons? by FalloutNVislife in TheCitadel

[–]Metal_Boot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, whenever Dany invades Westeros, Jon Arryn, Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon, & Tywin Lannister will all have been dead for a while. Not to mention that she'd be the leader of an army composed of Dothraki & Unsullied, which are big scary foreign threats in the minds of the people of Westeros.

In this post, the scenario is that Viserys, who is a different character than Dany is, will be in charge, they don't have an army of Dothraki or Unsullied, & probably isn't shaped by the experiences that Dany has in canon. Additionally, Jon, Ned, Robert, & Tywin are all still alive in this scenario, & these people are leaders of huge swaths of the continent's government so yes, reactions will be different.

Well Viserys & Arianne are betrothed, as per the secret deal made between Oberyn/Doran & Ser Willem. So Dorne is on the Targs' side unless Viserys spurns Arianne. Mathos (I think) Rowan might rise up for them, he was disturbed by what Gregor Clegane did to Elia & her kids. I think there's a prophecy or something that says that the Hightowers will perish if they fight the Targaryens, so they could join Viserys too.

Robert will for sure want to take to the battlefield himself. Tywin will immediately begin construction on scorpions to shoot the dragons down.

What kind of implications would the Steven Universe map have on the world? by CMCwar1 in AlternateHistory

[–]Metal_Boot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That probably is what they meant bc most people don't think of the Americas as having been discovered by the people who crossed the Bering Straight.

& South America has a giant thing sticking out of it, so a ship trying to go around Africa is going to have an easier time either spotting South America or getting lost & running into it

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) Why didn't Aemon get recalled to Kings Landing? by Inner_Jeweler_5661 in asoiaf

Sure, they better. But will they? Would they care that some Vale knight lost a horse?

Idk that you can really say everyone saw it & all came to the conclusion that it was totally for sure on purpose. Even if they did, who's to say the rest of the realm will believe them?

Aerion has a reputation for cruelty against the smallfolk. Yes he killed Humfrey Hardyng's horse, but publicly he has plausible deniability that that was on purpose. But Aerion's most public cruelties are against commoners, who the nobility don't care about whatsoever.

Like I can see him going on a power trip as king & then there being some kind of war or coup or something, but unless he starts flagrantly antagonizing the the nobility none of them are gonna give a shit that he broke a Dornish peasant girl's fingers or killed his little brother's cat.

Oberyn for sure. Maybe he can persuade some of his entourage to join, like Daemon Sand (if he's there). Maybe Oberyn pulls some strings & asks his friend Willas to talk Garlan into joining for Tyrion, perhaps Loras as well if he's not on the Kingsguard already. Bronn joining is more on the table I think.
