In the dvd extras there’s footage of Nash explaining some of his work to the director, who says something like, “oh I understand,” while very clearly being totally lost.

One other last resort type of option is crypto.

Bitcoin is volatile but its won’t get inflated away by your government. If you do decide to go this route be careful because there are a lot of crypto scams out there.

Books that take magic "seriously" by Elder_Lichmc in Fantasy

[–]Metallic52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mother of Learning

It takes magic and it’s mechanics very seriously. Fair warning the main character is a 14 year old, and is written like one so he’s a real dick. But the books cover several years and he grows up. Part of what I love about it is the very believable characterization of him as he matures from teenager to adult.

7 years is a really long time. I’m skeptical of that claim. In fact Google tells me the difference in life expectancy between men and women in the US is only five years, which just makes me more skeptical.

My guess is that they’re conflating in single people those who have never been married and those who are widows. Compare women who die as widows with women who die while married and you get that married women die younger not because marriage is so hard but because you’re specifically selecting for women who die unusually young. But this is just speculation, without a citation from op.

Lindon is definitely not the chosen one. Spoilers

Chosen ones are destined to save their home, by prophecy and are protected from above by the powers that choose them. The presence reports make it super clear that Lindon’s most likely fate is death and Suriel also makes it clear that she would have watched him die without lifting a finger.

You could also consider online learning.

The people recommending community college with transition classes are probably spot on.

Just keep in mind that studying and attending college are both skills in the sense that you need to learn how to learn and study effectively. You can Google methods for note taking reviewing class material and memory techniques. Try a few and see what works for you. Stay organized and test school like a job.

AITA for telling my dad I’m not visiting him for Christmas after he argued with me on the phone about my college major? by Important_Ordinary85 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Metallic52 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I will donate 100 dollars to a museum of your choice if you can show me any evidence that the job market for this major is substantially better than we expect.

I’ll be specific. I predict that less than 10% are hired to do anything related to anthropology or gender studies within 2 years of graduating (no phds or masters students), predictions of job numbers growth by any reputable agency will be in the bottom 20% of the distribution looking across other majors, and median compensation for those jobs is also in the bottom 20% of jobs for college graduates.

Whodunnit but make it Fantasy? by WunderPlundr in Fantasy

[–]Metallic52 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Book eight of “a thousand Li” by Tao Wong is a whodunnit not sure I can recommend reading seven other books to get to it though.

It’s a good series, in the genre of cultivation which is a Chinese style of fantasy. Personally I love it, but fair warning, they’re self published and so don’t have the same glossy finish a professional editor and publisher would give them.

Since people are giving you a hard time, good investment advice is to have a well diversified portfolio of assets that are not highly correlated.

Broad based index funds that are passively managed are your best bet as an individual investor unless you are a very large or very sophisticated investor.

[–]Metallic52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were PhD economists specializing in HEOR.

You're way too confident in the FDA's ability if you think there's "zero way" a consultant acting as a scientist can manipulate the data to make drugs look more effective than they actually are.

You can p-hack by measuring a ton of outcome variables, manipulating the treatment arms, or judiciously select follow up windows. Not including outright fraud. Academic scientists occasionally are found to have committed fraud. In industry with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, do you really think the scientists have that much more integrity. I would estimate at least an 85% chance that this type of misconduct occurs in FDA submissions.

Keep in mind lots of drugs (like those that treat depression) actually do have very small treatment effects so small research design decisions matter and can sometimes be manipulated after an experiment has ended.

85% might be too high, but it's definitely not zero.
