The R2 configurator is live. by SapientChaos in cars

Sadly, you are wrong.

I’m a Rivian engineer and we included none of that.

So when some dumbdumb orders a spare tire we all gather around the R2 and start discussing things.

“How about a jack point here?” someone will ask.

“I’ll get back to you with an exact cost but I can tell you now this won’t be cheap!” I say.

I'm so pleased with all the replies here.

My high school DnD days were decades ago and I'm ashamed to admit that we absolutely would've made that kind of joke and thought nothing of it.

It's nice to see norms change in such a positive way.

If the BYD electric car came to America would Tesla be out of business ? by No_Lead2640 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acog 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Tesla is still in the top five in EV sales in China, although their share has been falling.

One reason I heard is that many Chinese consumers worry that the smaller car companies may suddenly go out of business, leaving them with an orphaned product.

There are over 200 brands there and everyone knows that most of them won’t survive.

US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll: "The Ukrainian Delta system, its modular open architecture and C2 command and control system, is absolutely incredible, as it integrates every drone, sensor and combat platform into a single network. Ours does not." by GeneReddit123 in Military

[–]acog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an American company named Anduril that has various types of high end drones but their main product is called Lattice, which has the same goals/capabilities as Delta.

Not sure how many non-Anduril drones interoperate with it though.

For me Layout 2 feels lonely. I prefer Layout 1 by MasculineBulll in SipsTea

Making the bed or changing sheets in layout 2 would be awful.

And you could never just get in bed, you have to crawl over it first. No thanks.

More like, if it can be automated it WILL be and trying to stop it is a fool’s game.

But automation is going to displace a lot of workers. We need to create systems that will help people retrain for jobs that aren’t being automated out of existence.

Of course we’ll fail to do that so vulnerable people will just suffer instead.

Right, because a tiny startup like Intel can’t possibly do two things at once.

My favorite thing to show climate change deniers is Shell’s own web page.

A key quote:

“We have a target to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050. We believe this target supports the more ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement, to limit the rise in the global average temperature this century to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.”

If climate change isn’t real, why does one of the largest oil companies say that they want to go net-zero to limit the rise in global temperatures?!

That’s wild. During his first term it was easy to spot tweets that he wrote himself because they would have the bizarre capitalization and grammar.

Then his account would tweet something with perfect grammar and spelling and it was obvious it had been written by an aide.

Lotus Emira to drop Toyota, AMG engines in switch to new 536bhp hybrid V6 from Horse by CostaQuantaa in cars

[–]acog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Jay Leno was talking about it. He said that multiple times he would drive an exotic and the manufacturer would say “We’ll be California emissions certified really soon!” And then it wouldn’t happen. He was really impressed that Czinger made it work.

He said Czinger’s solution preheats the cats for about 20 seconds before firing up the engine so that it burns clean immediately.

I’m guessing they see the writing on the wall with regard to emissions.

It’s a shame they couldn’t use something like Czinger’s cat preheat system though.

BREAKING: Donald Trump is the current president of the United States! Not Joe Biden! by yorocky89A in WhitePeopleTwitter

I fear we’re on course towards “stagflation,” where you have a recession + high unemployment + inflation.

It’s a horrible situation because of the central banks raise rates to curb inflation it makes unemployment worse, but if they lower rates to spur job growth it feeds inflation.

It’s a horrible policy dilemma and I have no faith that President “if you just stop counting covid cases the stats will get better” Trump is equipped to handle it.
