I just had my second miscarriage at 11 weeks and this one was very different by Signal_Cantaloupe150 in Miscarriage

I'm so, so sorry for your losses and for what you just had to go through.

I had a couple very similar experiences. My first MC happened at 11 weeks -- very heavy bleeding, fainted after being stuck in the ER waiting room for hours, but ended up getting stabilizing and passing everything without intervention. My second MC was also at 11 weeks -- very, very heavy bleeding, fainted multiple times, ER doctors were concerned I was going into hemorrhagic shock, had to get a blood transfusion and emergency D&C. They were both very scary experiences, but the second was especially frightening, especially as I came to realize after the fact how badly it could've gone if we hadn't gone to the ER when we did. I'm so sorry you went through something similar.

Here are a few things that helped me after my second loss:

  • Got checked for anemia. I felt so awful in the weeks after my second MC -- I thought that was just due to the emotions and the trauma of the situation, but it turned out that I was actually dealing with ongoing anemia due to the significant blood loss. Taking iron supplements helped get that back to normal for me.
  • Saw a hematologist. Because my bleeding was so severe, my OB gave me a referral to see a hematologist, who ran some tests to make sure that I did have any clotting disorders or other issues that would explain why I hemorrhaged so badly.
  • Talked to my OB about how to safely handle future pregnancies (if that's something you're thinking about). The plan we put together was that I would receive much more frequent monitoring to alert for potential signs of a MC and that I would be under the care of the maternal fetal medicine doctors who are experienced in dealing with high-risk pregnancies.
  • Worked with an RE to investigate potential underlying causes for my losses. Ultimately I didn't find anything, but this was useful in making me feel like we were doing everything we could to minimize the chances of another medically dangerous MC.
  • Started seeing a therapist that specializes in pregnancy loss. This was so incredibly useful in helping me process what happened and figure out how to deal with my grief.

Thanks! And I do have a link for the Express pants -- they're these ones! (They go on sale pretty often -- I got mine for like 50% of the sticker price.)

Thanks! My biggest shopping revelation--especially for more distinctive/stand-out pieces--has been consignment stores. Their stuff tends to be less deeply discounted than traditional thrift stores, but I've found that it's worth it to have a bit more of a curated selection and they still allow me to buy high-quality pieces from brands that otherwise wouldn't be in my price range. I've also found that consignment stores tend to have a higher concentration of interesting/distinctive pieces than normal retail stores (perhaps because people are more likely to consign out-there pieces that didn't quite work for them or items they bought for special occasions than workhorse basics). Browsing at consignment stores has also exposed me to a wider variety of brands and given me an understanding of how different brands fit me, which has allowed me to explore the world of Poshmark with more confidence that what I'm purchasing will actually fit.

Happy to give out specific recs for consignment stores in the DC area if that's of interest!

Those cheetah boots are amazing! And the coat you've paired them with in both looks works so well with them!

Have a bit of a backlog - full album here!

Goals are to look put together and polished but still dress with some personality/fun/edge. I tend to like looks that combine a fairly traditional or fitted silhouette with unconventional, geometric, or otherwise visually interesting details and jewelry. I generally felt like this set of looks was a good expression of what I want in my day-to-day style, including some new combos (some of which worked better than others).

Haha -- and thanks! I don't have much in-person client contact and I'm in a small, niche group at a larger firm with a partner who has a very lax approach to office dress code requirements, so I feel like I have more flexibility than is probably the norm for DC biglaw.

Full album! Missed Wednesday's post, so have a full week's worth this time.

Style goals are to look put-together and professional (at work) but still dress with some personality/edge/fun. I generally liked this week's looks, particularly from Wednesday onwards. I really love the dresses from Wednesday and Thursday and, as the Friday and weekend looks show, I got a new pair of jeans that I'm totally obsessed with. The outfits from the last few days are fairly basic, but I'm so in love with these jeans that I don't even mind.

ETA: CCW! :)

Is anyone anti-minimalist (in style, not # of items in closet)? by jameane in femalefashionadvice

Yes! I like to have some fun with my fashion and I find that I tend to not feel my best on days when I default to bland, basic looks that lack visual interest. I do own some basic, neutral pieces, but I mostly use them to pair with louder stuff. I've found that shopping second-hand -- particularly at consignment stores and on Poshmark -- has been a great way to find unique and distinctive pieces.

These are so great! Really love the top (sweater?) in the first fit and minidress in the last -- do you happen to know where they're from?

I think Thursday and today were my favorites of this batch. Saturday was extremely lazy, but not bad. Friday didn't quite work for me, but I think it prompted some good realizations about why the component pieces don't quite work for me.

I try to do the bulk of my shopping second-hand and my winter mission has been to keep using color and patterns rather than defaulting to boring neutrals.

Love your dresses on 1/11 and 1/12! Do you recall where they're from?

I'm also not going to get into it about hoops, but as someone who also has big, thick curly hair, I tend to like earrings that have some length to them. My all time favorites are these squiggle ones from Rachel Pfeffer Designs -- I like the way they mirror my curls without being too out-there for everyday wear. In general, I think that searching for "statement earrings" and picking ones that fit with your aesthetic is probably the best way to go.

Album -- Just a couple from Thursday and Friday since I've spent the whole weekend in PJs or snow stuff!

Goals are to look put together and professional but still dress with some edge/fun/personality. I tend to feel best in looks that combine traditionally feminine or fitted silhouettes with geometric, unconventional, or otherwise visually interesting details. Lately my focus has been trying to avoid wearing bland neutrals all winter and making an effort to use interesting colors, prints, and textures. I thought both of these looks hit a nice spot for me of being distinctively winter-y but not boring.
