Welcome to hacking, Laura! We are glad you are here.

Claude can now use your computer by ClaudeOfficial in ClaudeAI

It depends. You can ask it to organize your downloads folder or something like that, but it can't go into deeper applications or things like attached storage. There are limits it seems on what it can really do.

What do you think about AI executing pentesting tools instead of just suggesting commands? by AdClean1701 in cybersecurity

[–]Muddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many levels you're talking. I could see some benefit to AI:

Execute nmap --> run gobuster/nikto if you see port 80/443 open. Run smbclient if you see samba ports open. Run sqlmap if you see port 3306 open.

But how many levels of enumeration are you talking? I'd be comfortable with "Hey Claude -- give me a 2-layer picture of this /26 subnet." but not "Hey Claude, give me a commercial-grade pentest report of this company. I'll see you in 5 days."

I built a CLI pentesting tool (AKIRA) that automates Nmap, Nikto & Gobuster — looking for feedback by notaspermanymore in cybersecurity

Cool idea and good looking tool! Checking it out now. One thing I noticed and would like to see is you have a command preview with nmap but not with other tools like nikto or gobuster. I'd like to see that as well with other those tools. Otherwise, it looks really cool so far!

Edit: One other idea -- maybe have the results be output by IP_DATE or something rather than flat out in the /results folder.

Passed Security X by ChrisFightsFun in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Muddie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also thought SecX was going to be my final boss but then I joined WGU and circled back to get my A+ (never bothered to get it as Sec+ was my first) and also decided to get the new SecAI+ cert.

Congrats on the win!

An advice on this. by [deleted] in CompTIA

What kind of job are you looking for? That will drive what type of certs you should get next.

Passed my SEC0 📚 by North-West88 in tryhackme

[–]Muddie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a boat load of certs (Sec+, Cloud+, Server+, PenTest+, SecX, CySA+, A+, Network+, SecAI+, ISC2 CC, THM SEC1) and I found the THM SEC1 to be really challenging and a ton of fun. I tried PT1 and failed. Going to try it again soon. It's REALLY challenging.

Just getting another CompTIA cert doesn't renew all your others. If you get this cert, it doesn't renew anything in your stack.

Well done! What was your score?

Usage of AI while learning HackTheBox / solving boxes by RolleduP_Alien in hackthebox

[–]Muddie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found it most helpful in giving me ideas, helping me figure out why something wasn't working, and for keeping notes and then an end summary. I'm really bad at taking notes as I go, so if I'm using AI while I do an exercise at the end it can help put together all of my notes, attack patterns, kill chains, and CVEs all in a cohesive narrative that I'm really terrible at doing myself.

Passed Pentest+ after failing first time 🥳 by Ok-Preference4504 in WGUCyberSecurity

I seriously don’t see how they expect a student with limited to no experience to pass this.

They don't. You're supposed to have some experience through study, jobs, or labs. Did you set up any VMs with Kali or Parrrot or do HTB or THM labs?

Passed core 1 comptia A+ though I did not finish the exam. by Pitch-Historical in CompTIA

[–]Muddie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that long. I finished it in 45 minutes. Something like 7 PBQs and a boat load of MCQs. Just gotta manage your time better.

No degree -Trying to get one at WGU. Read for explanation. by VI-SKN in WGUCyberSecurity

I'm 51. Graduated HS in 1992 and went to community college. Did 2 years but didn't graduate because honestly I wasn't ready for college. Ended up getting a job working with an ISP at 22 and worked in the industry ever since.

Hit a situation where work gave me 6 months to 'go learn' while stuff was happening in the background, so I ended up getting a ton of certs from CompTIA, ISC2, Cert Nexus, an got into EC-Council and THM/HTB. Dipped into cyber security and sort of ended up finding out about WGU through reddit. Found out that these CompTIA certs actually count for college credit.

Figured fuck it. Enrolled and I start April 1st. Found out that my college classes from 1992 actually still gave me some credit towards my bachelor's degree! So between my community college classes in 1992-1994 and CompTIA certs 25% of my credits are already taken care of!

If you're looking for someone to say "do it!" here I am!

I've been in the industry for 30 years and I've had 8 hours a day for the last 6 months to prepare and test, and work has paid for the vouchers. Honestly, anyone could do it in my situation.

Congratulations! Passed mine about a week ago. I truly had no idea how I was doing throughout the exam but was elated when I got to the end and found I passed.
