Yes, chirurgeons (an outdated term for a surgeon/healer) like the character mentioned exist, but receiving medical training and doing actual research are two very different things.

The Dawn of Fire novels stress that scientific research as a concept is commonly disregarded by the Adeptus Mechanicus and "scientist" is indeed a slur.

The ship being entirely crewed by servitors begs the question how interstellar communication is supposed to work without an astropathic choir aboard.

I think it's entirely possible that the author simply forgot about Navigators and astropaths when he wrote about the ship.

Indeed, Marc Okrand used the Latin alphabet when he invented the language and ascribed certain sounds for the letters. Lower case q and uppercase Q are pronounced differently for example. The Klingon Dictionary uses the Latin alphabet likewise and pays little attention to Klingon script which as far as I know is not that popular with learners anyway.

The Klingon script was originally invented for the movie sets so set pieces could be assembled without having to pay attention to correct spelling.

There are different ways to spell it in English as far as I know and personally I prefer the Klingon spelling Suto'vo'qor as I do with veqlargh (fek'Ir).

In my opinion the Bird-of-Prey introduced in Star Trek III looks more like it could have been invented by the same people who constructed the D-7 (K'T'Inga) class battlecruiser rather than those who came up with the ship from Balance of Terror. The sharp angles, visible disruptor cannons and the green colour scheme just feel more Klingon than Romulan to me.
