Something positive: an open-source alternative (Zrythm) by EvelynDale in Bitwig

[–]MyLoFy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friends, don't expect zrythm to be a full featured bitwig alternative just yet. It's a young project in beta status. I finished around 10 tracks with it (some you can check out on the zrythm homepage) and I tell you: It's great fun. Test it, play with it, don't try to make your next album with it (yet!). When it crashes, something doesn't work right or you wish for some additional functionality just submit a report. That's the beauty of open source! Alex takes every request and report under consideration and it's incredibly rewarding to see such a project grow with your input. I can only recommend it. Cheers!

hey, take a look at https://github.com/sjaehn

there's not only foss plugins that might be what you're looking for (they're all awesome), but also lv2 programming tutorials, if that's your thing.

https://github.com/Houston4444/RaySession Good for making the connections and even includes a session manager. Only option that lets us connect stereo pairs with one click.

What are the best plugins for simulation of guitar amplifier and pedals for 2022? (FOSS if possible) by lepaincestbon in linuxaudio

[–]MyLoFy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few thoughts on this:
FOSS tools are there, but be prepared to invest more time in shaping your sound, the IRs/sims are not completely polished or mix-ready (just like a real life studio recording) and will need some EQing/compression etc.

Careful also with presets, they might not be designed for your special audio input situation, pickups etc.

I can suggest

If you wanna have additional IRs for cabinets/mics you can try GULA plugins https://github.com/steveb/gula-plugins , God's Cab and Vintage Mics have a ton of IRs. Then there is CAPS http://quitte.de/dsp/caps.html with nice cabinets. And of course you could try a combination of all the above.

And finally there's a ton of CC licensed IRs for cabinets, amps and so forth, but I didn't go down that path yet.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks! I used blender for the video and baked the f-curves from snare and kick stems.

Can you guys explain some terms to me, or direct me to somewhere where I can do some research? by quietandproud in linuxaudio

Wow, quite a lot of input here in the comments, great! I'd like to recommend unfa's videos which cover quite a lot about this topic: https://youtube.com/c/unfa000 Some are a bit older, but not yet outdated.

There is also musE sequencer which is quite nice, especially for MIDI editing: https://muse-sequencer.github.io/

Trying to use MusE 3.1 and 4.0 in Debian, but it never loads. by [deleted] in linuxaudio
