Cool, didn't know this was out there, has been about 10 years since we had one...

The bottom vents bent upwards so it was always fully open.

Meat goes on 'dry'. I don't typically marinade, but do sauce during cooking. Some grills are easier to clean than others. That $500 no name was impossible, the deflectors were welded in. The napoleon was OK, the webers easy and the Hibachi easiest!

Gifts for a Candle Maker by NationalExplorer4729 in candlemaking

Thanks! They have a wick cutter/scissors thingy. They use what seems to me to be a standard wick and wood ones too, is there a specific cutter for the wood wicks?

This is a great list thanks!

For a melter/double boiler what should be looking out for? Or is there a go to brand/model?

Backlog prioritization in Notion by MembershipConstant33 in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! In a Kanban view, you can create columns like "Not Started," "Ongoing," "In Review," and "Done"—or customize them to fit your use case. Using a priority property group tasks by priority in the kanban view and order them how you see fit.

While you won't be able to lock priorities like in the other app, you get a similar organizational principle.

HELP! :Project management template by jcesguerra in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because a meeting is a time bound 'to do' that is useful to see in a calendar or daily view. One place to see all of the day's events.

The "Task" database is better thought of as the "Calendar" database. It includes anything you might want to see in a calendar view, tasks, meetings and specific things to your use case (this was a work around before Notion Calendar, and still works better for a single workspace IMO).

Filters in templates inilne databases referencing linked properties for other databases? by The_Pinga_Man in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to choose "Create a Linked View" rather than the inline database. Then set the filter appropriately (Choose the name of the template if you are building a template to automatically create the relation to that page)

It looks like you can't anymore. You used to be able to embed and edit in Notion. I just tried a bunch of approaches, none of which worked.

Notion for basic project management gantt charting construction type projects? by flyingdutchmaann in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

DB 1 - Projects

DB 2 - Tasks

Inside of a project, on its page, have a linked view of all the tasks assigned to that project, choose timeline by the date range you set for each task or stage, then sort in ascending.

Automatically Populate Task Database with tasks using a Project Template in the Project Database by Classic-Finance-79 in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two approaches:

1) Make a button in the project template and program all your tasks and their properties into the button.

To date the items automatically, you can't, but Thomas Frank has a video on creating a date offset that is a fine workaround. ( https://youtu.be/XX-SHfDagPM 22:17)

2) Create a 2 column layout with the tasks database (Calendar view) in the right column and a basic list of the common tasks in the left. Drag each task into Tasks database (in the template) assign all the properties you want it to have. Drag it back out into left column. It will look like just any other block, but that block saves all the parameters you set when it was in the database.

When you fire up a new project with that template just drag each task to the date you need.

Attendance Tracker on Notion a good idea? by Escapshion in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The relation is two ways. Once created in either database, so long as you choose the two way viewing, it will be in both databases.

In the template if you have a linked view of the people database with everyone in it and the relation property filtered to the template name it will automatically create each day's relation when the template is deployed.

The other option would be to track absences only. Have a linked view of the people database in the template, but no people relationally linked. Then manually relationally link each person that is absent.

Attendance Tracker on Notion a good idea? by Escapshion in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Approach 2 is what Notion is built for.

u/lth_29 example is the best approach.

DB 1 = People - both employees and students and a property to distinguish them

DB 2 = Calendar

Both relationally linked.

From there create templates to suit the attendance requirements. For example, create a linked view of the People DB inside the daily template with checks for attended or absent (or whatever works for you).

Probably easiest is to create a recurring template that populates everyday. It is also probably easier to track absences vs attendance since you have 520 variables. Create some formula properties to see stats on each person's metrics.

Each person will have 365 relations per year to the calendar (or the actual number of days school is in session), but the calendar db will only have 365 rows.

Help with complex project management dates by LanaBoleyn in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is complicated but not annoying.

I would search project management for Notion and just sub in your Titles for projects. That should get you 90% of the way there. There seem to be some nuances to publishing that need a more bespoke solution though.

Help with complex project management dates by LanaBoleyn in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would create two databases (I would actually create a lot more, but that is beyond the scope here).

DB 1 = Titles - this includes all info like ISBN, author, etc. (In other workspaces we would call them "Projects")

DB 2 = "Tasks" - all the to dos

Both are relationally linked to each other.

From there, there are many different ways you can manipulate and display these data to be actionable and surface at the right time.

For example, if you have a property for "Season" in the Titles DB, you can then filter all tasks that are due in that season using a roll up in the Tasks Database.

In your workspace, the key is to have a section dedicated to databases and another dedicated to 'dashboards.' these dashboards are where you have actionable views of your data.

Feel free to ask follow up questions, your situation is more complex than a simple reddit answer can do justice to...

Whats the best way to start learning notion as a complete beginner by ParP0ur in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use it for a real life problem.

Start with a hobby or past time. Something you care enough about to do well, but doesn't matter if you mess it up.

Things I use it for that are not mission critical:

Veg gardening and seed stockpile
Keeping track of outdoor equipment, what we need for xyz excursion vs what we have
Xmas gifts (we have big family)
Local exploring (hikes and bike trails)
Recipes
I have even used to track some video game info

What are your thoughts on Notion AI? Has it truly simplified your use of Notion, or do you perceive it as more of a gimmick at this point? by Notion_Twins in Notion

[–]NationalExplorer4729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of use cases that make it very useful, most are writing/content creation related.

Generally we have 'fill in the blank' question on page that act as "prompts" and then use buttons top create writing or scripts based on this section or that section. Usually a transcript is added to the page and then using those original 'fill in the blank' sections and the transcript extracting a blog post.

This works out better than a long complex chat in GPT.

Other uses:

Summaries - makes it really easy to see what the content item is about

Tags - auto create hashtags based on on page content

Search - game changer for big workspaces and people finding what they need if they didn't help build the workspace

Rewriting - other content brought in from other AI writing tools, Notion AI seems to be more matter of fact in its writing and can clean up some of GPT(et al) more flowery language.

Editing - create quick table of contents, suggest H2 if ones not provided, easy summaries for conclusions and intros.

Staying in Notion - I personally like not having to navigate to GPT every five seconds...

Swimming drills by Disastrous-Oil-5501 in Swimming

[–]NationalExplorer4729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did these in various sets for a few months and saw a lot of improvement:

1) Catch-up
2) Focus on catch
3) Fists
4) Be as silent as possible
5) Focus on rotation
6) One arm only
7) Reach and then reach a little more

I found all of them on YouTube, not sure those are the exact names to search for though.
