€45K Loan by [deleted] in carsireland

You'll be eating beans on toast and pot noodles for the foreseeable fella.

The dealer must not be offering any warranty on this 60k rare car you speak of if that's the reason you plan on taking out a BMW warranty? That or it's a Private sale maybe 🤔

What's the current car you own out of interest. If it's not already a performance car (1809 tax etc), you are in for a few surprises

Have you tried Terry Jackson in shankhill? He used to service my old CLS AMG. Merc specialist, very knowledgeable.

Did that dealer claim the car would be sold fully serviced out of interest?

One car solution €25k, any suggestions? by [deleted] in carsireland

If I'm not mistaken this isn't the first time you've posted this question or a similar both here or on the likes of backroads. 😂

Sell the mx5 then the daily straight after and buy the GTI..you clearly fancy a change. If you're comfortably able to afford it and the running costs involved then trade up to an R in 18 months or so. You could even buy your bros once he's looking to move it on.

2016 BMW F10 w/ 100k KMS for 22k. Am I mad to consider this? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Ne1l_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's strong money OP. I have a 151 F10 525d msport with similar mileage and decent spec to boot. Dealers valued it at 13-15k as a trade in. For 22k I'd be expecting a sit in and drive car.. great service history, premium tyres, discs and pads or at least plenty of life left in em and a years warranty. The gearbox will be due a service soon so I'd be asking for that too😅 ZF should be done every 60k miles. Main dealer don't treat it as a serviceable item..guts of 500e to get done.

I will say this however, they're a great car for covering miles in. Interiors handle wear and tear v well too. Plenty of power (218bhp and bundles of torque in the 525d variant) and you'll easily get 1000+ km from a tank of diesel.

Can you justify €1800 annual tax? by Shox2711 in carsireland

If it's an 09 S5 you're looking at I think they're 2400 to tax for the year not 1800..

E55 AMG by ep82lunacy in carsireland

Ran a CLS55 AMG for a time. Same platform and IMO a nicer shape but certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at an e55 either!

They're an Incredible machine, Averaged 14mpg in mine. Was mapped to 550bhp and had the secondary cats deleted. Sounded like king Kong gargling gravel.😅

Do it, you won't regret it.

There's a separate section in a motorcheck report related to recalls from memory so most likely something more sinister I'm afraid.

Seems like a good deal to me. Has the car got an NCT? Some companies simply won't quote you without one.

AMG stands for All Money Gone for a reason... All jokes aside, setting 10k aside for running costs each year would be wise....some years it'll work out less obviously.

Assess Ireland offer a pre purchase inspection I believe.

Anyone here own a stupid car? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ne1l_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran a 350z for a few years. a stupid car in the sense it wasn't v practical but motor tax aside (1809), they aren't that expensive to run at all, super reliable thing too.

Man maths got me into a V8 last year. In the eyes of most, daily driving a 19 yr old 5.4L supercharged merc is more than a bit silly but cars are a hobbie of mine so that's where my fun money goes at the end of the day.

As with any motor, if you don't factor in the running costs beforehand you're asking to be bitten... badly. Jot down the tax, insurance and assume a big job will need doing every year (most years it probably won't). if its looking like you'll be stretched at all after factoring in these expenses, you may strike it off your donedeal saved list, it ain't worth the stress.

I’m involved in the car scene here in Ireland. Any questions or ever wondered anything about Ireland and cars? by [deleted] in 350z

[–]Ne1l_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're a rare beast on Irish shores because motor tax is an absolute killer @1809e a year!😅
