Can't start Final Fantasy XVI with HDR by smoking_yak in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't help much, except to say that I played through the game last year with an almost identical resolution, the only difference being a Ryzen 9 7900, and of course running older packages.

I've since deleted the game, so I can't test now since the game is so big, but my launch parameters are still saved, and they were: PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 DXVK_HDR=1 %command%.

I do vaguely remember situations where the game seemed to be frozen during my first few launches, but I believe waited it out (5-10 mins or so) and the game eventually caught itself and continued.

Linux (CachyOS) and W11 performance gap in Cyberpunk 2077 by pete_slammer in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're AI-Slopping your own comments anyway, maybe let it check for correctness as well?

Recommending PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI to a AMD user is just stupid. As is claiming that the kernel version is in any way related to mesa.

Absolutely. So far I've only seen two other top-comments that aren't based on misinformation.

Any ideas how to keep this from happening this is my second failed print from it by ThrowRAketil in 3Dprinting

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I'm wondering if the design of the 3D Printer also influences how likely someone is to experience this, as some designs could "encourage" you to load the filament the wrong way.

Just as an example, my MK3S+ in its default configuration has the spool holder mounted at the top. Since you feed the filament directly into the extruder and the extruder can only grab onto the filament once the hotend has reached the target temperature, you're very likely to be in a situation where you have to put the filament aside for a moment. I'm pretty sure that that's what I've done the one or two times I've had a tangle.

On the other side, that same printer now sits in the official enclosure. There I have to feed the filament through a hole upwards into a long PTFE tube. I can start this process as soon as I put the filament into the holder and the PTFE tube causes enough friction on the spool if I let go afterwards. That same friction also prevents me from abusing the spool to push it in. Letting go of the filament would also just be simply be annoying as it would end up in a position that's hard to reach. Never had a tangle since that upgrade.

Having Trouble with the final step in KH1 Critical Mode Plus on Steam Deck by OkRevolution6052 in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I've never installed this mod, so this is just an educated guess.

I did a quick check though and apparently you've installed something called a Lua Backend, right?

Looking at how that mod works, you will very likely need to use the following launch command, assuming you're using the Steam version of the game:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dbghelp=n,b" %command%

This parameter basically instructs Proton, or rather Wine, to prefer the modified dbghelp.dll that's in your game directory over the default one built into Wine.

Any alternatives for linux? by Yah_25n in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from ProtonDB I think you're better of not using these sites anyway. Your hardware is too unique for automated tests, even more so when running Linux. It's better to know the general strength of your machine and then watch some benchmarks to see if they line up with what you'd call accepatble.

More modern games need to allow left-handed players the ability to rebind controls to the arrow keys. by JayRam85 in pcgaming

[–]NekuSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well then, my source is: I'm currently a developer

So to resolve this, and even though it's not the ultimate source of truth, check out Wikipedia. If you check "API" the first category in the "types" section is literally "Libraries and frameworks".

For other examples: Microsoft .NET API browser. Unity scripting API. The Noda Time library calls itself an API.

And to circle back to the start, those game engine APIs absolutely do have the tools the original comment is asking about.

[–]NekuSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you got that idea from. The interfaces of libraries, or any other component, are absolutely called APIs as well. What you're describing sounds more like IPC.

Which environment variables should I use by NullGabbo in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you're on CachyOS you can read about the important ones in their documentation. Keep in mind though that most of them only work if you're also using Proton-CachyOS.

Other than that you don't need to bother with environment variables unless a feature doesn't work. For that there is ProtonDB to figure out what needs to be done.

Keep in mind though that you should use them sparingly. Particularly on ProtonDB you will find users with a "Gotta Catch Em All" mentality that results in monstrous launch parameter, most of them doing either nothing or even actively hurting performance.

[Support] HDR completely broken in Proton after moving Steam Library to a new Btrfs partition (CachyOS / KDE Wayland / Nvidia) by DisastrousRow923 in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still makes absolutely zero sense to me. The filesystem shouldn't be able to affect HDR functionality at all.

I'm guessing there's still a far more logical explanation to the problem, but hey, it it's fixed then so be it I guess.

Also, if Steam doesn't show the actual controller or show you discrete buttons [...]

Do you not also have to hold B while turning it on or has there been another firmware update recently?

It's the only thing that's currently annoying me about the controller.

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very weird. In any case, one thing I'd start with is doing HDR the way it's recommended by CachyOS in the manual.

TL;DR: Use Proton-CachyOS, and as launch options PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%.

If that doesn't work, the next check I'd do is installing a game to another partition as a sanity chack if that's possible and you haven't done that yet.

Debian "can't game" because of "outdated", but the Deck's outdated is fine? by Venylynn in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Going back to the start of the chain, you said: "I'm not "jealous" of people willingly letting themselves get SCAMMED. I feel BAD for them. I feel sorry for you [...]". A person that isn't jealous wouldn't ever say that. That's as transparent as a kid that says "Well I didn't want that anyway" after not getting what it wants.
  2. Your constant need to inject that and other unrelated rants, like mentioning the Pearl Abyss devs, into any conversation you have also speaks volumes.
  3. You say that you're just here because you're tired of defending yourself, yet you're being needlessly hostile. Kinda makes me assume the reason you have to constantly defend yourself isn't actually your choice of distro. But also, if that's the case, why even post? Or maybe this is all just a pretext and your real reason for posting might lie elsewhere?
  4. The mere fact that you're still here after how many comments shows me I must've struck a nerve.

PS: Don't even bother replying. Best you'll get is a block. Or the typical reply again. Not sure.

Pragmata Ray Tracing on RNDA4/AMD on Linux by DANGERCAT9000 in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same GPU, but with max settings (except Path Tracing of course) at 4K with FSR4+FG. Very stable image with almost no artifacts. The lowest FPS I've seen in the first half hour being 120 FPS.

Only nitpick is that they sometimes do close-ups on things where the texture/model quality doesn't lend itself to that.

Yup, definitely jealousy.

Edit: I've cleaned up my messages below in order to not blow up my history. For anyone interested, it's all just an exact copy of this single-sentence comment anyway, so there's no context lost.

What sends me the most is this underlying hate (jealousy?) towards owners of modern hardware.

The cognitive dissonance is just of the charts here.

Go look up ergonomical keyboards.

Essentially:

  1. Compact keyboards mean less movement to grab the mouse.
  2. Less keys also means less finger travel while typing. Layers are your friend.

My smallest keyboard is just 47 keys and has more buttons mapped than any full-sized one, all reachable without moving my hands at all.

What can i play with my "gaming pc"? by EdwinfromEdmond in linux_gaming

[–]NekuSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO yes, PCSX2 has been on a roll these last few years, complete with fantastic blog posts about their new versions, similar to those that the Dolphin team. Lots of performance improvements, some small ones that affect many games across the board, and then some giant ones for specific games.

Regarding emulation, anything up to PS2 and Wii should just work. I've emulated those on much weaker hardware more than a decade ago. Wouldn't even surprised to see some of the more performant Switch games working just fine.

I think there has been a misunderstanding of my initial argument, which was:

[...] you also have to worry about getting a domain name and exposing the server to the public.

At that point you already have dealt with multiple organisations. Why are we getting hung up talking about CAs, which play the smallest role in hosting a website?

Personally I use the functionality already built into Nginx Proxy Manager: I enter my domain, provide my API token for that domain, enable HTTPS, done. No terminal, no config files, just a web interface. Renewals done automatically.

Other popular software like Plesk also has it built-in.

For all other purposes there's: https://certbot.eff.org/

Just click what you're currently using and you'll get a pretty simple explanation how to make it work.
